Tell me about your weird phobias

I have two that I think are fairly rare:

  1. if I look at (or think about) intricate things with pointy bits on, like for example a circuit board or the ends of a fork, I imagine the pointy bits going into my eyes I and I mentally kind of curl in on myself
  2. I can’t stand anyone one touching me in the middle of my chest and will freak out if it happens.

There’s no rhyme or reason to either of these as far as I know. I’ve never had an accident or traumatic experience involving either these areas - just odd I guess?
Do you have any odd phobias?

Fictional ghosts. But not real ones.
A film with ghosts in? I completely freak out. Tell me the place I'm in is haunted? I'm absolutely fine...

Bellybuttons - can’t even look at them, let alone touch my own, and when DH digs out his fluff 🙈

Paripale · 10/07/2021 21:45

Aroundtheworld 😂 that’s so random!

Food on skin.

The very idea of a food fight makes me retch.

Weaning babies was the worst thing I ever did. No baby led here, gross.

CliftonGreenYork · 10/07/2021 21:46

Midgets, Worms and people chewing gum in public.

SpunBodgeSquarepants · 10/07/2021 21:47

Kind of like your first one, sometimes an intrusive thought about spilling a drink will come into my head and I physically kind of shudder, have to screw my eyes closed. Must be some deep-rooted childhood trauma that lead to this I reckon.

Paripale · 10/07/2021 21:47

Dotball - outy’s make me feel a bit peculiar so I know what you mean!

DS has this weird lots of dots phobia thing. He looked it up & it's a thing, Trypophobia. Who knew?!

DemBonesDemBones · 10/07/2021 21:48

Raisins. Shudder.

newmumfeb21 · 10/07/2021 21:48

Museums. Ones like The Imperial War Museum give me nightmares and panic attacks.

30degreesandmeltinghere · 10/07/2021 21:49

Different colours of wood in one room. Makes me twitchy..

SimonJT · 10/07/2021 21:50

Fingernails, if someones fingernails are long enough to have any white showing it makes me feel physically sick, and I can almost feel them touching my skin.

frazzledfragglefromfragglerock · 10/07/2021 21:50

Apple cores.. make me retch for some reason 🤷🏻‍♀️

FlatteredFool · 10/07/2021 21:51

Beards. I blame The Twits by Roald Dahl for that one.
People masticating loudly or with their mouth open gives me proper fight or flight and I want to cry, and run or smack them really hard. I don't do that though as it's not socially acceptable so I avoid eating with others and try not to look at people and have music on or leave the room. It's really limiting. I'm awaiting ASD assessment.

Huge mushrooms, I can just imagine the inside flappy bits moving in the sea even though they don't grow in the sea.

Feathers, I feel like that's more of a disgust thing I just think they're dirty, I won't touch them and I hate it when they are in cushions etc

I always curl up at the thought of something sharp going under the fleshy bit of your nail, my dog actually did it to me when I cut my nail too short and stabbed it with her claw 😭😭

thefirstmrsrochester · 10/07/2021 21:53

I cannot and will not touch polystyrene. The feel, the bubbly look of it, the weightlessness, the squeak.

Viviennemary · 10/07/2021 21:53

Underarm hair. Can't stand it.

Also abandoned/dropped facemasks. They seem to be around these days. Never want to see one again.

RubixRubicon · 10/07/2021 21:54

Cold congealed food and crumbs on the worktop - sinister bastards

Paripale · 10/07/2021 21:54

Spunbodge - if I’m having a lovely conversation with a friend over a coffee, I often get an odd self sabotaging thought about what would happen if I were to throw their drink over them or slap them. I imagine their face changing from friendly and happy to shocked, confused and then finally angry! I don’t know where on earth it comes from (and of course I’d never act on it) but it’s very distracting and annoying!

Mud.
Its mild...but escalated 7yrs ago when we on a 4night stay at big outdoor event.
It rained heavy the week before And 2 days we were there, mud was up above ankles at best and to knee at worse.
It stank.
I could 'smell ' mud for weeks after we got back.
My kids arnt allowed to play in mud really, it makes me feel a bit sick.

Tulips15 · 10/07/2021 22:00

My Dd has a sticker phobia.
You can see her go pale when she spots a sticker near her, she is fine with plasters and sticky notes...but 'proper' stickers are a big fear!

Councilworker · 10/07/2021 22:01

Leaf skeletons. They make me feel sick. It's probably linked to trypophobia.

Elisheva · 10/07/2021 22:01

Old, tarnished cutlery, especially forks with their long, spindly tines, which might curl up in your mouth.
