There's no hate In this post. Just watched some of their YouTube content this morning as years ago I saw them on TV. Wow their lives look like one big ball of fun. I'm guessing they have made alot of money from going on TV? Hot tubs and holidays and refurbishing a huge home whilst keeping all those kids in clothes. Not to mention they spend a fortune on every occasion.

I remember it was budgets before. Now it seems they have a never ending supply of money. Certainly not having to count the pennies now. .

Somehow they make family life look constantly fun. I only have 2 children and can't offer mine anywhere near What they have.

They seem to have a lovely family and seem nice people. Just amazes me now how social media has allowed people to get rich for contributing nothing of value to society. Not taking away Noel works hard. Again no hate. But it's ridiculous when normal people struggle to make ends meet.

The lack of environmental concerns was shocking, they seems so wasteful

FlumpyPoodle · 11/07/2021 20:09

@jasminoide

There is zero opportunity for any of the children to excel academically. In one program a little girl says she can't do her homework because she can't find anywhere in the house to do it without little children, who keep ripping it up. The parents have said they don't believe in homework or reading. In the scene where Chloe got accepted to uni Noel said "I suppose we should be proud," but then 18 year old Sophie's pregnancy was something to be much happier about. They haven't been brought up to aspiring to anything beyond the pie shop.
God that's so depressing. It's likely that a couple of them will excel in their chosen careers or in education but not as many as if such things were encouraged at home.
Gwenhwyfar · 11/07/2021 20:13

"She got a £2000 washing machine gifted this month!!"

You don't have to list things like washing machines on benefit forms. One of the very unfair things is that you can have expensive jewellery, cars, artwork whatever and that's not counted as an asset like cash, bank accounts and property.
I guess if this 'gift' counts as earned income though they may have to declare it, at least for tax if not for benefits.

Gwenhwyfar · 11/07/2021 20:15

@boomwhacker

They live in the catchment area for the well respected Lancaster Grammar schools (boys and girls) and I'm fairly certain that none of the children go/went there. This says something about the value that the parents place on education and providing opportunities (beyond working in the family pie shop or providing grandchildren) for their children.
Or maybe they don't believe in selective education. Plenty of people don't.
FlumpyPoodle · 11/07/2021 20:16

Seems like they just don't believe in education.

GreenBlood · 11/07/2021 20:22

It always struck me that people were disinclined to criticise this couple, as much as it is deserved, because they sold the story that they were hardworking and didn't claim benefits. How different this family would have been treated had people thought they claimed bennies.🙄

I knew a family of 20+ children once...I went to school with one of the sets of twins. They were loved, but had serious behavioural issues. They were not toilet trained, even at primary school. They played up a LOT. The mother is lovely. A saint, actually...yet still her children suffered.

And that was twenty years ago, without the added pressure of social media and people like us talking about them.

@MotionActivatedDog

I think it’s totally fair to say that if you’re raised by a parent who doesn’t believe in reading then you aren’t getting the right support/encouragement to achieve your academic potential.
I agree. It's a fair comment.
garlictwist · 12/07/2021 07:25

Lancaster Grammar isn't selective.

ScouseQueen · 12/07/2021 09:44

@garlictwist

Lancaster Grammar isn't selective.
Yes it is.
walkoflifewoohoo · 12/07/2021 10:21

"do you know the schools? Did your children pass the test then turn down a place?

"Right encouragement" purely meant individual educational support for a child which realistically any child who wants to go to a grammar school needs."

Yes @boomwhacker those schools are local to me. Why are you assuming that all children here should want to go to the grammar schools? Mine don't, I don't want them to either. So no, they didn't sit the 11+.

"Lancaster Grammar isn't selective."

Sorry what? 😂 Yes, they are.

walkoflifewoohoo · 12/07/2021 10:23

"I think it’s totally fair to say that if you’re raised by a parent who doesn’t believe in reading then you aren’t getting the right support/encouragement to achieve your academic potential."

This statement I would agree with, however, I also know for a fact that Noel and several of the children do read regularly.

MotionActivatedDog · 12/07/2021 10:27

however, I also know for a fact that Noel and several of the children do read regularly.

Several of the 22 children read regularly? That’s umm, Christ that’s just so sad.

walkoflifewoohoo · 12/07/2021 12:04

What I mean is I know that several of them definitely do but I can't comment on the others.

You seem very determined to make this "ugh, that's sad" but I didn't say that the others don't read. Twist it how you like though if it suits Smile

walkoflifewoohoo · 12/07/2021 12:10

"Several of the 22 children read regularly? That’s umm, Christ that’s just so sad."

Christ umm, there are only 9 children that are of reading age. I can confirm several of those have a keen interest in reading and do so regularly. Some of them prefer sports and gaming - teenagers eh?

What's so "umm that's, umm Christ sad" about that particular aspect of it?

I mean, you sound so well read Confused

Youdiditanyway · 12/07/2021 12:14

Do you personally know them @walkoflifewoohoo, how do you know they regularly read? The PP who posted about them not reading is going off something Sue said when they did the C4 documentaries a few years ago, she said she didn’t believe in reading Hmm.

TonkinLenkicks · 12/07/2021 12:15

I don’t think it looks like fun. I think it looks like hell.

GreenCrayon · 12/07/2021 12:17

Christ umm, there are only 9 children that are of reading age. I can confirm several of those have a keen interest in reading and do so regularly.

Im confused by your comments, do you know them personally? Surely most of them are of reading age she only has a few under 4 now doesn't she?

Also the posters saying they don't read are going by what Sue herself has said previously it's not like they are just making random nonsense up? Confused

walkoflifewoohoo · 12/07/2021 12:18

Yeah I know @Youdiditanyway - I know what she said. When you do these things you just have to accept that there will be forums of people clinging on to what you thought were flippant comments.

I'm replying to the poster who said my comment was so "sad" when it's not at all really. Unless we should all be the same Grin

woodhill · 12/07/2021 12:19

Must be harder to read if you share a room or there are no quiet places

Plus it must impact if they don't do homework or reading or do you think the older ones assist with this

walkoflifewoohoo · 12/07/2021 12:20

There are 9 children of reading age and yes, I know them.

The rest are either 4 or under or are adults, not children. I can also confirm some of the adults like reading too.

MotionActivatedDog · 12/07/2021 12:39

Look if I wanted to look for things that are sad about the radfords I certainly wouldnt need to labour on sue’s comments and only several of 22 reading. There’s plenty there to choose from. That’s just one element. And yeah, it’s pretty fucking sad that a woman who chooses to be responsible for the upbringing of so many children doesn’t bother with reading or homework.

GreenCrayon · 12/07/2021 12:41

@walkoflifewoohoo

Ah I see you were now just referring to those under 16. I took children to refer to all of their kids as despite many of them being over 18 they really don't seem to act or live like adults.
walkoflifewoohoo · 12/07/2021 12:46

"Ah I see you were now just referring to those under 16."

No, those under 18.

Not sure how the ones that are over 18 aren't "acting like adults" though. Strange statement.

You know they have jobs/partners/ambitions/mates/spouses/children/houses....all very adult things.

walkoflifewoohoo · 12/07/2021 12:48

"it’s pretty fucking sad that a woman who chooses to be responsible for the upbringing of so many children doesn’t bother with reading or homework."

Good job her husband does isn't it. You're very angry

Foxglovesandlilacs86 · 12/07/2021 12:52

Can anyone find the direct quote/clip of sue saying she “doesn’t believe” in reading or homework? And did she definitely mean reading in general, or just reading that is set by the school? A lot of people don’t agree with the extra work kids get set by the teachers.

There’s a lot of book snobbery in this thread Grin reading isn’t everyone’s cup of tea and not all kids do it for fun. I love books and so far all my kids read for fun but plenty of kids prefer sports, or drawing or dancing. Reading isnt the only wholesome activity in the world.
