Turquoisesol · 09/07/2021 12:27

Where do people buy shoes? Academy he will go to I imagine the kids will be in to having the “right” trend. But we haven’t a clue. Not looking for super cool styles, but just something that will fit in. Can anyone advise me?

What do the uniform rules say?

Turquoisesol · 09/07/2021 12:51

DS has had some from Next that have lated all year. They’re just plain black leather lace up shoes. I bought him some trendy brogue type ones but they looked daft on an 11 year old and he used to wear plain black Vans for primary school but there’s no way he’d be allowed to for secondary school as it’s a grammar school with a very strict uniform policy.

My very fashion conscious teenage ds has always worn Kangol black shoes for school...the particular style is called Kangol Harrow.

Comedycook · 09/07/2021 13:01

Not sure if they'd be smart enough?

Turquoisesol · 09/07/2021 13:02

Yes the kangol Harrow would meet the requirements

Black Nike Air Force one are the most popular ones here. They are virtually indestructible which is a bonus and waterproof as all leather

WhiskeyNeverStartsToTasteNice · 09/07/2021 18:59

DD14 has always had school shoes from Clarks and nobody's ever batted an eyelid. Maybe boys are more trendy 😆

whoami24601 · 09/07/2021 19:02

I always get Doc Martens. V trendy and super hardwearing! Middle DS just had his replaced that have done him nearly 2 full school years!

Sparklingbrook · 09/07/2021 19:09

My two DSs both wore Clarks. Nobody really cared about shoes. It was more about having the correct bag.

Turquoisesol · 09/07/2021 19:13

Oh, what is the ‘right’ bag, out of interest?

My ds has to have the school rucksack...otherwise it would be nike
Sparklingbrook · 09/07/2021 19:18

I can't help with the 2021 correct bag I'm afraid.

Mine were at High School quite a few years ago now and it was different every year. Sometimes it was a rucksack others it would be a sports brand.

Sparklingbrook · 09/07/2021 19:20

Both DSs had one like this at various points.

A lot will depend on what the school uniform says. As a general rule, if you have doubts whether a pair of shoes could be counted as trainers or look trainer-esque then avoid them unless the school allows trainers.

The right bag varies by area in my experience.

UserAtLarge · 09/07/2021 19:22

"right" bag varies by school as well. I'd recommend DS speaks to someone already at the school or alternatively uses a neutral rucksack for the first few weeks while he susses out what everyone else is doing.

Agree that no one cares about boys' shoes.

jendifer · 09/07/2021 19:27

Sorry for the poor link, but Everyone wears this style at the school I work at. Def none of the kangol ones mentioned above. It seems to vary by area I think.

Interesting how it is area / school specific, but also not that surprising

OP posts:
Comedycook · 09/07/2021 19:34

Yes it's very area specific...My ds would not wear the shoes or use the bag that other posters have linked to!

Turquoisesol · 09/07/2021 19:35

I do remember at school it was ultra naf to wear rusksack on two shoulders! Always carry on the one shoulder. Then at one point that changed and everyone had to carry only on both shoulders 😂

OP posts:
Comedycook · 09/07/2021 19:36

Both shoulders here Grin

Sparklingbrook · 09/07/2021 19:37

In my defence I did state that the bag was from some years ago. I just posted as an example. Another year it was rucksacks.
Practicality didn’t seem to enter the bag decision though.
They went to different schools and only DS1 took up a locker which meant the bag decision was better- didn’t need to be carried about all day.

No defence needed...I think it all depends on what the other kids in an area/school have!
