Someone was very kind to me today.

My DDad is in hospital, he has been diagnosed with cancer.
He has an old flip phone with the smallest buttons in the world and has been struggling to use it.
I went to Tesco today, because he has a Tesco PAYG sim in it and we only put £30 on it yesterday. I asked the man if he had a very basic smart phone, it is literally just for calls, but I wanted a screen rather than the old button phone.
After chatting for a minute or 2 I realised he hadn't heard me say I was looking for a sim free phone.
I briefly explained why I wanted one and he said hold on and went onto the store.
He brought out a phone that had sat on the shelf for a few years, they aren't sold any more but he never threw it out/gave it back.
Because it 'didnt exsist' on anything anywhere he gave it to me for free and wished my Dad well.
I was really touched by the gesture.

Ah that's lovely to hear. I am sorry your dad is so ill and hope that he recovers quickly.

Cocolapew · 08/07/2021 15:47

Thank you, unfortunately we don't think Dad will survive it but it's lovely to have a bit of unexpected kindness.
I'm sure the poor bloke could have did without me bursting into tears though Blush

How lovely! I had similar in Lush - went in to get some nice things for a dear friend receiving end of life care. Explained to the assistant why I was there and what I was looking for. Assistant explained to the manager. Both of them cried, gave me lots of stuff to give her for a free, and then stuff for myself too. They were so kind and compassionate.
