Things have been a bit shit lately for parents, with bubbles popping etc no?

So I thought it would be nice to share our good news, little or big things you’ve managed that might not seem like a bit deal to other people but counts as progress to you.

I’ll start…today I taught my DS, who’s just 3, to wipe his own bum! He’s thrilled, I’m thrilled. Best thing that’s happened this year, practically.

And I’ve got both my DC off dummies in the past few weeks. Long overdue some might say, but it was hard for one of them for various reasons, so it’s a massive win.

Tell me yours!

DD (aged 3 years) asked if she could have an ice cream, and when I said yes, helped herself to one from the freezer and brought one for me too.

Rainallnight · 07/07/2021 14:15

Woo hoo! Grin That is amazing

My 8 month old napped for a whole two hours this morning. The longest she has napped in the past few months is 20 minutes!!

My best one - one night DD went to bed early, a little tireder than usual. I popped in to see her and she was asleep but restless.

I suddenly remembered that a friend's son had been sick a couple of days previously, ran to get a bucket and got to get just as she woke and vomited! I caught every drop.

Was especially pleased for a few days as friend kept complaining of the smell of sick in her house.

My 10yo has made me breakfast everyday this week.

8yo has procrastinated as much in the mornings so we aren't rushing through the school grounds as the bell goes.

Timeforabiscuit · 07/07/2021 14:35

@zombielady wins the thread!

MyFloorIsLava · 07/07/2021 14:36

DS got the loveliest leavers report from preschool. He has issues with speech and attention but they have described him as a friendly, kind and caring child with a wonderful imagination. Very proud of him.

Rainallnight · 07/07/2021 14:37

@zombielady You have super powers

@Aroundtheworldin80moves Your ten years old sounds like a poppet. And it makes such a difference to the day when you’re not rushing like crazy Smile

Good job zombielady! I remember how proud I was the first time DD successfully puked in a bowl properly instead of over me.

CharlieWorkCharlieSad · 07/07/2021 14:37

DDs teacher pulled me aside yesterday at pick up (actually DD told me her teacher wanted a word with me!) I thought the worst.

But she said that DD is an absolute star, has such a wonderful way of explaining things and is an absolute pleasure to teach GrinBlush she said sometimes you just have to tell the parent!

CharlieWorkCharlieSad · 07/07/2021 14:38

Sorry, that's more of a DD Win. She puts the work in and is a wonderful girl.

Notthissticky · 07/07/2021 14:41

I discovered that DS1 doesn't fall out of his big boy bed if I put his pillow between his head and the edge of the bed.

bananamonkey · 07/07/2021 14:42

My 4 yo has just started reading Biff and Chip books all by herself (SiL gave us a boxful). I can’t really take credit though, god bless the Reading Eggs app!

She also shares absolutely everything with toddler DC2 off her own bat with no quibbles, I’m so proud of how kind she is. It must be tricky having a demanding new sibling!

funnyoldonion · 07/07/2021 14:43

My DD aged 7 swam her first width with armbands on after months of lessons pre lockdown then a 16 month gap, I almost cried, it only took 2 times of one on one with my and just getting her in deeper waters! She looked so cute and wouldn't stop and proudly declared "I'm just minding my own business mummy" whilst swimming along! Wink

MrsTerryPratchett · 07/07/2021 14:44

DD with SEN, is solidly average in all subjects this year. She has always been 'struggling' or 'needs support' or some other awful euphemism.

It has been a LOT of work for her and us.

BillywigSting · 07/07/2021 14:51

Sorry Zombie Lady but as fantastic as catching the sick is, and it is, it would win the thread any other day, I think MrsTerryPratchett has just stolen that honour today.

What an absolutely brilliant achievement for your dd (my own dc doesn't have sen but I am close to a couple of children who do and the sheer effort and force of will they and their parents put in to be average is genuinely inspiring and I only wish I had half their work ethic. Bloody well done to both of you Grin )

iamalighthouse · 07/07/2021 14:53

Dd 12 has dusted her room..with out asking! She is off school self isolating

30degreesandmeltinghere · 07/07/2021 14:57

Got a message from school today about some work going on the school app . (Ds is having to isolate as a case in his class) .and a request he practices on the hour clock work as they have just started it . Oh I so want to stealth boast ds knows all the configurations of the clock!! Did it during the first lockdown!!
I casually asked him the time. 10 past 11 dm!!
Smart cookie!!

madmomma · 07/07/2021 14:58

These are lovely! My ten yr old has finally plucked up the courage to join a footie team. He's always loved playing but has been to anxious to join a team til now

TotallyKerplunked · 07/07/2021 15:06

Been very busy with work lately and forgot my lunch on Monday. When we got back from pickup DD (6) took herself off and made me some toast, so thoughtful.

MrsTerryPratchett · 07/07/2021 15:11

Thanks @BillywigSting DD is very proud of herself. And so she should be!

Also, thanks to J K Rowling, without whom none of this would be possible. I'm still convinced 'cauldrons' was the first word DD made a superhuman effort to sound out!

MrsTerryPratchett · 07/07/2021 15:12

Although catching sick is some Zen level parenting.

BillywigSting · 07/07/2021 15:14

@MrsTerryPratchett she may not be the darling of the fwr board but she certainly has her merits!

TheLovelinessOfDemons · 07/07/2021 15:25

DS2 had lost a lot of weight since starting his meds, we had a paediatric appointment yesterday and he's in proportion again! Although you can't make a child eat, so it's his doing really.
