My neighbor thinks I’m a massive Bonnie Tyler fan.

When baby dd was about 6 weeks old, she had a period of really bad colic. One evening, dh was waking in circles around the kitchen trying to comfort her when Total Eclipse Of The Heart came on the radio. Dd suddenly relaxed and fell asleep. Awww, we thought.

Next evening, more colicky crying. So this time, thinking anything was worth a shot, we asked siri to play it. By the end of the first verse, she was flat out.

Things escalated.

Dd is now 10 months old.

Every nap time, so up to three times a day, and sometimes before bedtime, I play that song in the kitchen and she’s out cold. I let the song play on before taking her off for her nap and just because I don’t want to wake her by barking at siri to be quiet. (I’m very lazy and my babies nap on me until they are quite big).

Yesterday my next door neighbor knocked on the door with a Bonnie Tyler mug she’d found in a charity shop as a present for me.

NDN is lovely. But she must think I’m crazy Grin

and poor dd will either grow up to find that bloody song a massive comfort or she will hate it with a passion!

Love it. You could do much worse.

On Dermot O'Leary's Saturday breakfast show on BBC Radio 2 he does an 'inappropriate lullaby' slot of just these kinds of stories. So funny.

smallandimperfectlyformed · 06/07/2021 11:20

Ah that is lovely! My kids hate me because every time I tell them to turn around I then feel like I absolutely must sing bright eyes afterwards- lots of eye rolling and muuuum from them!!!

That’s hilarious. I bet your neighbour is sick to death of hearing the song though. Or maybe it knocks them out cold too and this is their way of thanking you

FlibbertyGiblets · 06/07/2021 11:22

Hee hee hee that is sweet and funny.

Lol!

Our dd's baby song that soothed her was Bat Out Of Hell........she's 23 now and still loves it......

Kanaloa · 06/07/2021 11:25

I love it! You should save the mug as a present for your dd when she’s grown up, she’ll love it!

Bovrilly · 06/07/2021 11:28

Our dog stops what she's doing and becomes very attentive if I start singing Mull of Kintyre. It only works if I sing it though, not DH, DC or indeed Wings.

I love it! Grin

She’s so lovely or I would have thought it was a clear message to shut up!

We both have the kitchen doors wide open a lot with only the fence in between as we both have very old cats, so she must be as sick to death of hearing it as I am!

I lived with my parents when I had my first baby and my sister was a Metallica fan. I was not. Guess what baby DS chose as the only music he would fall asleep to? Grin

OP, I am sorry to have to tell you that you need to nip this in the bud. Right now. Here follows a cautionary tale of what happens if you don't. Let my story serve as a warning. A friend of mine, many moons ago, decided, entirely out of nowhere, that I liked pigs. She bought me a piggy bank for my next birthday. I said nothing other than thank you. Then it continued, and it felt too late to comment on the over egged piginess. There followed many years of porky offerings, which only stopped when I moved about a hundred miles away. For full disclosure, I did not move to get away from the porcine gifts, but I may have had to consider it in the end Grin

GreenCrayon · 06/07/2021 11:38

That's brilliant, what a fab neighbour. Please put the mug along with an explanation into a box with her precious baby things and then when she is older you can recount the story to her. Grin

I really like the idea of keeping the mug for dd. she’s very much the last of three so I’m soppy about everything already.

I'm impressed with your neighbour.
I've been shopping in charity shops for YEARS and I've never seen a Bonnie Tyler mug.
I used to have Jason Donovan and an Ed the duck mugs, they're probably on the bric a brac shelf of some charity shop now too.

Soubriquet · 06/07/2021 11:47

Sooooo OP, what’s your address GrinWink
