My neighbor thinks I’m a massive Bonnie Tyler fan.

When baby dd was about 6 weeks old, she had a period of really bad colic. One evening, dh was waking in circles around the kitchen trying to comfort her when Total Eclipse Of The Heart came on the radio. Dd suddenly relaxed and fell asleep. Awww, we thought.

Next evening, more colicky crying. So this time, thinking anything was worth a shot, we asked siri to play it. By the end of the first verse, she was flat out.

Things escalated.

Dd is now 10 months old.

Every nap time, so up to three times a day, and sometimes before bedtime, I play that song in the kitchen and she’s out cold. I let the song play on before taking her off for her nap and just because I don’t want to wake her by barking at siri to be quiet. (I’m very lazy and my babies nap on me until they are quite big).

Yesterday my next door neighbor knocked on the door with a Bonnie Tyler mug she’d found in a charity shop as a present for me.

NDN is lovely. But she must think I’m crazy Grin

and poor dd will either grow up to find that bloody song a massive comfort or she will hate it with a passion!

Perhaps a name change is in order Arsebucket?

My baby sleeps to Cafe del Mar - a trance fan already!

Tlollj · 06/07/2021 12:01

This made me chuckle. If this was my family and they heard about this every birthday, Christmas, Easter I’d be getting BonnieTyler stuff.

Aah perfect! Grin

beardeddragon174 · 06/07/2021 12:03

OMG this is amazing.

I've met BT a couple of times through work, and she is a complete legend. I bet she'd laugh her ass off about this.

MangoBiscuit · 06/07/2021 12:05

So funny! Grin

DD2 would only settle to Green Day's Basket Case, and only if it was loud enough.

Soubriquet · 06/07/2021 12:06

My kids are totally unoriginal Sad

Dd would settle nicely to the wiggles, especially this song…which is a bit of a trip tbf

And ds would settle for the hoover

Maybe invest in a karaoke machine and 2 wigs?? Ndn may join in. She likely knows all the bloody words by now!!

RozHuntleysLeftHand · 06/07/2021 12:15

Mine loved drum n bass!!

Seriously.... Put on a banging classic and he'd be asleep in no time at all!

I could never work out if it was because he hated it so much he just wanted to block it out or it genuinely soothed him because I love drum n bass and listened to it loads while pregnant!

He's now utterly obsessed with Black Sabbath at 9?!

RozHuntleysLeftHand · 06/07/2021 12:18

Oh and your neighbour sounds lovely BTW.

And also we are a family where any time someone says "turn around" you have to sing the rest of it, bloody stupid catchy tune.

I don't even freaking like that bloody song.

Vikingintraining · 06/07/2021 12:30

This is brilliant! What a lovely neighbour, so sweet. This story has made my day!

Carrotsoupispoo · 06/07/2021 12:34

We had a very similar thing only to Dolly Parton’s love is like a butterfly.
Now, I love Dolly, she’s an icon, but it’s not her best song is it? Bloody months we had that on repeat for.

TommyShelby · 06/07/2021 12:39

We have the same but with three little birds by Bob Marley! Grin

Pandoraslastchance · 06/07/2021 12:45

Awwww I think that's lovely.

My babies slept better to acdc, meatloaf and van Halen. I think they just have good taste.

Americam · 06/07/2021 12:47

I didn’t know that Bonnie Tyler memorabilia existed - maybe the mug is very rare and will be worth a fortune!

I’ve met her a few times (many years ago
and before she hit the big time) and she was very nice. Enjoy your baby!

MrsMoastyToasty · 06/07/2021 12:49

Mine liked the music for the BBC points West regional news...

TheVanguardSix · 06/07/2021 12:51

Why is there a sting of tears in my eyes? Grin
Heavens OP, this has me laughing and choking up at the same time.
You'll be talking about this forever.
The mug is a keeper and your neighbour is a jewel!
It takes a lot to make me smile these days, but this thread has me beaming! I've also got one hell of an earworm now, so thanks for that! It could be worse... could've been Pat Benatar.
Smile

LouLou198 · 06/07/2021 12:53

Aw that is nice, what a thoughtful neighbour you have. That has made me smile!

Fiddliestofsticks · 06/07/2021 12:54

Things escalated.

That made me laugh out loud because it's just such a succinctly way to describe most of our loves as parents. If I were to write an autobiography, that would be the title.

Brilliant.
My DD slept when I played Bruce Springsteen born to run.
She was chuffed to bits when he played it in a concert a couple of years ago.
She thought it was for her.
She was around 16

Your post reminded me that when dd was small dh used to sing Love Grows by Edison Lighthouse to her, but substituting “Rosemary” for her name.

He told her the song had been written about her. For some reason my dm told her that it wasn’t about her at all - dd was so upset! We still sing it using her name though!
