Including a bottle of wine (for size reference you understand).

is that fun size?

spotcheck · 03/07/2021 20:02

They were as long as my arm when I was a child ...

Cupidity · 03/07/2021 20:02

They used to be the size of a ruler, roughly, I think, didn't they?

ablutiions · 03/07/2021 20:03

@SorrySoldOut I wish.

All chocolate bars are tiny now. They shrink them while increasing the price

ablutiions · 03/07/2021 20:05

16cm, or 6 inches in old money.

That's half a ruler. What a swizz

Which means I need to eat at least 3 to make up Grin

Much better in the olden days when they were 8ft long and needed carrying by 2-3 children.

They’re a lot narrower now as well!

I remember a curly wurly lasting a good 20 minutes or so!

ablutiions · 03/07/2021 20:14

@MrsFlinch indeed. I polished that one off on about 6 mins, and that was a leisurely pace.

Was yummy though

Is that out of a multipack? They are always a bit smaller Sad

dementedpixie · 03/07/2021 20:16

www.google.com/amp/s/amp.heart.co.uk/lifestyle/food-drink/cadbury-reduce-size-chocolate-bars-childhood-obesity/ they shrunk them because we're all too fat!

FreezerBird · 03/07/2021 20:16

Definitely. You had to properly commit to eating a curly wurly.
TroysMammy · 03/07/2021 20:18

The chocolate will still fall off when you open it though.

TheGonnagle · 03/07/2021 20:19

Bloody chocolate shrinking bastards!

Classica · 03/07/2021 20:20

The whole novelty of the Curly Wurly, back in the daye of our lorde 1985, was that they were big. So when you were in the newsagents on a Saturday afternoon making a considered purchase with your 20p piece, you would weigh the size of the Curly Wurly against for example, the heft of a Mars bar. What is the point of a Curly Wurly now? Sad

Was about the post the same.

My mum actually weighed creme eggs once and the multi pack ones weighed less (so presumably smaller) than the individual one.

They're not as chewy nowadays either.

Pikachusbutt · 03/07/2021 20:26
That's bullshit. They made them smaller (and charge the same per unit) to improve their profit margin.

But it makes them look better if they blame it all on us and the fact we're fat greedy bustards.

I also don't think anyone got fat from eating a curly wurly or a finger of fudge. More like a 500g slab of Dairy Milk.

dementedpixie · 03/07/2021 20:34

I know its bullshit
They shrink them but keep the price the same and it's win win for them

DobbyTheHouseElk · 03/07/2021 20:39

They used to cost 11 and a half pence and were as long as my arm.

Sad times indeed.

SpeedRunParent · 03/07/2021 20:40

Shrinkflation ☹️

MerylSqueak · 03/07/2021 20:46

Curly Wurly and a bottle of wine. Living the dream OP! Grin

FatCatThinCat · 03/07/2021 20:49

I still remember my first curlywurly. It was on a school trip in the 70s to the circus in Blackpool Tower. We were all given one in the interval. I couldn't work out how to eat it as we were squished in and if I held it as low as possible, touching my lap, it was too long to get my mouth over the top.

poochiemaloochie · 03/07/2021 20:52

A curly wurly was the tried and tested guaranteed method for pulling out a wobbly tooth in our house!! Only time we got one!!
