That isn't Covid?? Both my DCs woke up coughing this morning. Took them for PCR tests first thing and are isolating but I'm clinging on to a shred of hope it's just a normal bug. If they have positive results that means 2 entire year groups will have to be sent home, for the final 2 weeks of term. I mean I know there are far worse problems but the poor kids have had such a disrupted year. Covid can do one. Fuck.

Yes. Colleague at work is hacking away with the worst chesty cough I’ve ever heard. He tested negative for Covid. He says everyone is giving him a wide berth! Poor bloke!
Another one is still wheezing having recovered from same chestycough... she was negative too!

TheSunShinesBrighter · 02/07/2021 21:52

@DearTeddyRobinson

Ok that is reassuring thanks all. It wouldn't surprise me if it was one of the normal bugs they haven't had this year, it has been a suspiciously healthy term HmmGrin. I guess I'll find out tomorrow or whenever the results are back. Mostly im upset as we had to cancel our cleaner Shock
Have you got any LF tests? They are more likely to give false positives than negatives I think. (Correct me if I’m wrong)). So, if they are negative it’s likely to. Be correct.
MeanMrMustardSeed · 02/07/2021 21:53

Like a PP, put children have had a run of Croup!

zebrapig · 02/07/2021 21:55

Yep, DS was ill all last week with a viral bug with main symptoms of high temp and cough. When he was checked twice by drs surprisingly covid was never mentioned at all. We tested him anyway and PCR came back negative.

PrancerandDancer · 02/07/2021 21:55

We've got raised temp and cough. Not covid. Seems to be a lot of colds doing the rounds. Will keep fingers crossed for you 🤞🤞

21Bee · 02/07/2021 21:55

I was told RSV is going round young children and is likely to be a big problem in the autumn.

Yes. I and DH have it. Done PCR test and negative.

ArchbishopOfBanterbury · 02/07/2021 22:24

Loads of regular bugs going around. And in fact, the dominant delta variant of covid doesn't often present with a chesty cough in kids.

So don't panic yet!

Mol1628 · 02/07/2021 22:32

Both my children have had an awful cold and cough the last few weeks. Not Covid they’ve had negative pcr tests.
Just like before Covid, coughs are very common with other bugs.

Bearfrills · 02/07/2021 23:11

Yes. Youngest DC started last Thursday with chesty cough and a very high tenperature so we all isolated and pinned her down for a PCR (cost me a set of Bluey figures as a bribe!). It came back negative two days later and she ended up at the GP who diagnosed a chest infection and ear infection, she's still coughing now but is fine aside from that. On the Monday, myself and the other three DC came down with high temperatures and chesty coughs so also had to get tested, they came back negative too.

The GP said that they're seeing loads of non-covid coughs, colds, and viral infections due to increased mixing and people picking up all the bugs they've managed to avoid for the last several months. There's a pretty evil sick bug doing the rounds too.

paulhollywoodshairgel · 02/07/2021 23:19

My lb is coughing like he smokes 40 a day. Not covid. So you never know. Good luck 🤞

Lilibet2022 · 03/07/2021 00:03

Yes. Both DD1 and DS1 have been off school ill (covid test was negative). Cold symptoms etc and DD1 had a cough as they also turned out to have tonsillitis so was put on ABs too. Very lethargic with it drinking lots no appetite but not lost their taste etc. I also came down with some non covid bug this week and have felt like absolute shit the last few days.
There was a special on the local news the other day how the hospitals are getting overwhelmed with children visits with other viruses at the moment to the level they'd usually see in winter. It's because more mixing is happening so chances of catching other bugs is also high.
Yes it's hard thst they might miss the end of term but so did lots of other Yr 6s and Yr 11s last year. Hopefully you're DCs won't have too.

Wishing both your DCs better soon. Flowers

In my neck of the woods there is a rampant non-covid cough which my DD has currently.

Angelina1972 · 03/07/2021 03:21

We all had a horrible head cold that after a couple of days turned into a continuous cough, with a tight and wheezing chest. It was awful. Still wheezing on exertion a week later. It begins with fatigue as well.
We all tested negative for covid on a PCR test, so try not to worry. Our results came back really quickly btw.
There are other viruses doing the rounds.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 03/07/2021 03:32

At the ffs school the majority of foundation unit have been off at one time or another in the last few weeks , none have been covid and its now moved to other year groups.

We also had a really awful sickness bug doing the rounds about a month ago. Every one in the house caught it

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 03/07/2021 03:33

That should be dcs school

Maggiesfarm · 03/07/2021 03:44

There is a bug going around with a chesty cough.

FunnyWonder · 03/07/2021 03:53

Fingers crossed your DC get a negative.

My eldest DS is coughing with what we believe is his hay fever. He has been off school since Friday 25th June as we're in NI, so summer holidays have started. I took him for a test yesterday and am waiting for the result. In fact, wondering about the result is what has me wakened up at stupid o'clock! Dreading a positive as I am my mum's primary carer. Results for my youngest, who had two negative tests last year, came through at about 6.00am.

There is a cold and cough doing the rounds here, so I'm hoping it's that or his very severe hay fever, which has been worsening every year, despite prescribed medication.

cocoloco987 · 03/07/2021 05:33

I'm sure there is but in my area lots of them were actually covid before we broke up for the summer.

Dustyhedge · 03/07/2021 05:53

We all had a nasty bug that seemed to make us all very congested. I’ve never had so much phlegm on my chest- it felt like I was drowning some mornings when I woke up. Not covid but not very pleasant and we all had it so there are lots of things doing the rounds.

Dustyhedge · 03/07/2021 05:56

I’m also not convinced about the theory of child illnesses coming about because of a return to mixing. My children have been mixing since September in nursery and school and were both in through winter like many other key workers and have had a whole variety of lurgies as has every other family I know with a child in nursery.

But for the many dc who weren't in nursery - they will be picking up illness again from mixing. The criteria for school age kids to be in was very strict so a lot more were at home than not.
Paddingtonitspaddingtonbear · 03/07/2021 06:51

My two have had chesty coughs both negative PCR.

Covidwoes · 03/07/2021 08:23

My two DDs (toddler and baby) have just got over chesty coughs and accompanying temperatures. Covid tests negative! Older DD goes to nursery, so I suspect she got it there. DH and I haven't had it though!
