Are there any good ghost story films to watch?

I have Netflix and Prime and am looking for a creepy film rather than horror. Something like 6th Sense, The Others or Woman in Black.
I’d appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

The changeling on prime ( the one with George c Scott, not Angelina jolie)

Rather than a film, I highly recommend a series - The haunting of Bly Manor - on Netflix. It's a ghost story rather than horror and jump scares, thoughtful, intriguing. I really enjoyed it. There's also The haunting of Hill House which stars some of the same actors but isn't as gentle in its storytelling as the previous recommendation.

Great suggestions. Thank you Smile

A Ghost Story - its a 2017 film. Look for a picture of a white sheet type ghost. Not sure where it's available to watch but it really stayed with me.

The Innocents. It's a 1960s film version of The Turn Of The Screw, I saw it years ago, and it's so subtly creepy, it has stayed with me ever since!

Ghost Stories - Andy Nyman film. Excellent and sad.

Puppylucky · 02/07/2021 17:12

The 60's movie The Haunting of Hill House is great

SecretWitch · 02/07/2021 17:12

The Others

I found The Conjuring to be very creepy.

Rockitrosie · 02/07/2021 17:12

One of my fave creepy films is “What lies beneath” with Harrison Ford and Michelle pfeiffer. It’s tense, not scary. Other tense thriller type films: cape fear, dead calm, seven. I think these are all on Netflix or prime.

SecretWitch · 02/07/2021 17:14

Well dang, I just saw you listed The Others.. I do recommend The Conjuring. Paranormal Activity was also scary to me.

I loved both of these! And The Others
LongLiveGoblingKing · 02/07/2021 17:18

Came on to say The Awakening.

Also The Orphanage, which is Spanish language/English subtitles but is an excellent creepy ghost story.

Amdone123 · 02/07/2021 17:27

I don't know if this is on Netflix or Prime but Stir Of Echoes is brilliant. I would say it's on par with, or even better than Sixth Sense.

KurtWilde · 02/07/2021 17:41

The Turning is quite good too, it's a remake based on the turning of the screw. On prime I think.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 02/07/2021 17:45

I'm just place marking to get some ideas for myself!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/07/2021 17:48

I'm lurking!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/07/2021 17:48

but not in a ghostly, creepy sort of way.

Aunthe · 02/07/2021 17:57

Excellent thread OP, watching with interest. Came on to say 'The Awakening' but have also been reminded of 'What lies beneath' as well, I'd forgotten that, it's excellent.

KurtWilde · 02/07/2021 17:58

I also love The conjuring films. Insidious, oh and crimson peak is a beautiful ghost story.

TheShriekingCrow · 02/07/2021 17:58

Oh fab. So many suggestions. I have absolutely no idea of what to start with! Great dilemma Smile

The conjuring is on Netflix and is excellent

LeonardLikesThisPost · 02/07/2021 18:09

I watched Things Heard And Seen on Netflix yesterday - very good, and creepy / ghostly rather than outright horror.

KurtWilde · 02/07/2021 18:10

Leonard I haven't seen that yet, would you recommend it?
