Help me pick a new hoover

Please and thank you.

Prefer the cylinder kind not the upright kind as I like to use both hands to hold ajd hoover the carpet and rug.

Have a Henry at work and not impressed. I have a mixture if hard floor and carpet but it's that stupid ridgy carpet that collects crap in the corner that the nozles can't get up.

Currently have a Dyson animal.thats avkyt 14 years old and tbh it's not the best. Besides melting due to the friction of the hair it connects against against edge of the main.attachment, it's awfully noisy fir a disappointing amount of suction . Or maybe I'm just fussy I dunno.

I just want something that picks up properly and doesn't loose suction

Tia

I know you say you dont like an upright but honestly, the Shark powered lift away is fricking amazing! I'm astounded at how much shit it picks up from my carpets and I hoover daily.
Dont go for the anti hair wrap one though, they're not nearly as good. This is the exact model I've got.

Is it suitable for a house where you have to move alot of stuff to get to everything. Can u put the lift away bit down and have it stand up while you pull out chairs etc?

I’m sceptical about the shark enthusiasm. I think they have good online advertising (I think bots sometimes).

The Sebo we had was the best I’ve used.

I also really like my Shark upright. DH was dead against an upright but I’ve converted him. Grin

GreatBigBird · 01/07/2021 14:49

Sorry didn’t read properly - thought you wanted upright. The Sebo has a pull out nozzle.

LittleBlackCat22 · 01/07/2021 14:51

I would save my Sebo k pet hair over my family in a fire.

Woeismethischristmas · 01/07/2021 14:51

I rate my shark powered lift away too. Best to buy a second set of filters so you don’t need to wait for them to dry though. We have wood stoves and the ash clogs up the filters faster.

jojogoesbust · 01/07/2021 14:57

Do not buy a Shark cordless. Biggest pile of doesn't pick up anything ever!!

Whatwouldscullydo · 01/07/2021 15:01

The sebo looks like a good contender.

I have a lot of hard to reach places behind things I need to pull out so really need something that will free stand when I have to pull out a chair to stand on or move the toy Box.

I bought a new vacuum cleaner last summer after extensive research and went for a Miele. The model I have is the Miele Blizzard CX1, there are various options to get extra attachments, I have the Cat & Dog Pro version which includes pet hair attachments. It's good not that I use it enough Blush

Recently treated myself to a robot vacuum cleaner which is going to get a lot more use I think Grin

MyGrassIsBrowner · 01/07/2021 15:13

@Whatwouldscullydo worth watching a video on the shark powered lift away on Youtube. It comes apart and has various attachments so can get in hard to reach places so you dont just have to use it as the full stand alone thing iysim!

MistySkiesAfterRain · 01/07/2021 15:18

Best one I ever had is Miele from John Lewis. I think it was 90 about 5 years ago, now about 120. Really strong suction.

GiantKitten · 01/07/2021 15:27

I’ve got 3 Miele cylinders (1 on each floor) of different ages and powers but newest one, with weakest motor, is the best.

These are Which’s 4 top cylinders currently. Mine is a fairly basic model and isn’t one of them Grin

They do require a bag, but they’re a fairly reasonable price, and do a fantastic job of containing the dust. And you get pretty good suction until the bag is completely stuffed.

We have a cordless shark now (handy for crumbs from baby), a eufy robot ( handy for general dust and cat hair), a karcher ( for large building work we had) and a trusty old Miele that’s about 15 years old.

The Miele is the oldest yet still the best of the bunch of you want something that does everything.

Ohsugarhoneyicetea · 01/07/2021 15:46

Miele for a normal type vacuum.

But I recently bought a Eufy robot vacuum and I haven't vacuumed myself yet this year. Its truly a blessing.

DennisTMenace · 01/07/2021 15:54

I bought a shark with cord and really don't like it. Heavy, doesn't reach as far as I expected, no magic cord winding button and not as easy to get into small spaces. I miss my Miele and wish I had bought another one of them instead.

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 01/07/2021 15:58

Don’t buy a shark. We are having problems again. Brought one had it just under a year and it stopped working. After numerous calls and emails and finally resorting to social media they requested mine back and sent a new one out. Or only a few months later it’s not charging.
It’s also not picking up very well. I clean the filters and the rollers etc regularly but still rubbish at anything bigger than a speck of dust.
Usually I use the Miele cat and dog. It’s a cylinder hoover. It’s great. Only downside is that it uses. Bags and filters and I keep forgetting to buy them. I stock up and then forget until I run out.

Whatwouldscullydo · 01/07/2021 16:01

I've never changed a hoover bag in my life how do they work Blush

Bought a Sebo after many recommendations here. Had to send it for repair within a few months of purchase , problem with the motor. The cable was also coming away with exposed wires. They fixed the motor FOC but refused to fix the cable and we had to pay £30 for a new one. Their customer service person was difficult, patronising and rude to deal with. Given we had the inconvenience of having to send it for repair for a week after just 3 months of use in a small house, I would have thought they would have repaired the cable out of goodwill, since they harp on about their amazing product and service and how their machines are built to last . The vacuum itself is good but I am completely put off contacting them ever again based on that experience.

Whatwouldscullydo · 01/07/2021 16:06

Oh that's not good. I hadn't thought of customer service as a factor when choosing tbh . I should have contacted Dyson after the one I had melted so.id have something to compare it with.

Anyone know what meile are like.

I have the most expensive model too

Paddingtonthebear · 01/07/2021 16:15

Had a Miele C3 I think before the Sebo! It was good on hard floors and light carpet but didn’t do the job when we moved house with thick brand new carpet in most rooms. Tbh the Sebo does pick everything up and leaves lovely lines 😆 but their attitude has put us off ever buying from them again. It’s also quite a heavy thing to use.

Had a Shark too when they first came out, it lost suction v quickly. Did consider getting another before the Sebo but staff in Currys put me off admitting they get more returns for Shark products than any other brand. I won’t buy Dyson out of principle. The Sebo came from John Lewis.

JanetandJohn500 · 01/07/2021 16:28

I've got a Miele c3 which I expected to love but it doesn't work very well on our carpets. Specifically which Sebo would people recommend?

Whatwouldscullydo · 01/07/2021 16:28

With the bag ones how easy is to retrieve stuff if you accidently hoover up lego/hair band a sock

I have to say it was annoying having to empty the Dyson outside and the dust cloud but the upside was any accidentally casualties could be easily seen and retrieved

Sorry but I've had several over the years and only Henry would I buy again. Avoid cordless too, useless
