Does anyone have a stand mixer for the kitchen that they recommend? I feel like kitchenaid is the most well known but that doesn’t always = the best

I absolutely love my kitchenaid, it gets used loads and is just great. My friend has a kenwood kmix which she also tells me is brilliant.

Dropdeadfred2 · 01/07/2021 10:50

I love my kitchenaid

StillRunningWithScissors · 01/07/2021 10:55

I think it was the independent that had a review of stand mixers about 10yrs ago. I went with the Andrew James one, and haven't been disappointed.
I use it about twice weekly, dough making, baking etc. Much cheaper than the kitchen aid

I also love my kitchenaid and it gets used regularly.

TooMuchPaper · 01/07/2021 11:01

We have the Kitchen Aid mini. Also have a Kenwood Chef but the Kitchen Aid is used all the time.

Jellycatspyjamas · 01/07/2021 11:02

I have a kitchenaid and it gets a lot of use - I’ve had it for 20 years and it works like new.

NannyR · 01/07/2021 11:03

I bought one about ten years ago and looked into all the reviews, I went with the kenwood chef titanium as it was much better value for money and similar spec to the kitchen aid, it just didn't look as vintage-y and colourful.
I use it every week for lots of different tasks, the food processor attachment gets lots of use too.

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 01/07/2021 11:03

Kitchen aids are very expensive for the motor you get, kenwoods are better value. I love my kenwood, its not as stylish, but its excellent!

Suchalicklepumpkin · 01/07/2021 11:05

I absolutely love my Kitchenaid. Its a beauty. It is used daily here for everything from baking cakes to shredding cheese. I got the sifter and weighing machine on sale after Christmas and its getting great use too.

EmmaStone · 01/07/2021 11:29

I got my Kitchenaid about 12 years ago, still looks brand new (used regularly!). I grew up in the US, where Kitchenaids were the norm (not sure if Kenwood is sold there?), and they were treated with the same reverence that Kenwoods get here. I expect to be able to hand mine down to my daughter (who was 4 when I bought it, and chose it with me) when I'm too old to be interested in using it.

I did loads of research at the time, and there was plenty of talk about Kenwood having a more powerful motor. I can't pretend to know much about mechanics and engineering, but I read a counter argument that explained the placement of the motor meant the Kitchenaid had the same efficiency as the Kenwood motor.

I would say if it's taking pride of place in your kitchen, but the one you want to look at every day for the next 30 years!

Thanks! So helpful

Those with kitchenaid what size do you have? We’re a family of 5 so I’m thinking medium would be more useful as I tend to have to make a lot of stuff for various dinners and school

4.8L also a family of 5.

cookiemonster5 · 01/07/2021 12:37

I got a kitchen aid for Christmas and I love it. It's used all the time for baking and making doner or burgers, I also have the food processor so making coleslaw or a big batch of soup takes seconds.

purplesequins · 01/07/2021 12:39

I've had a bosch mum for a few years now. am very happy with it.

I have a Kitchenaid and like it however I bought the very basics and have had to buy a paddle with a scraper attached as I found things weren't mixing properly and I find if I add flour on top of mixture it flies everywhere because it is quite powerful even on lower setting. I believe you can buy a cover thing for this?

Lastly in order to sift flour directly into the bowl you have to remove the paddle or the bowl, this annoys be slightly but I expect it is the same for other makes/models.

starfishmummy · 01/07/2021 13:04

Depends if you want to use it or look at it....
For actual using then Kenwood

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 01/07/2021 13:16

I’ve had a Kenwood Chef for donkey’s years and wouldn’t be without it.
If it ever dies on me, I’ll get another.

I once left it for a minute or so making pastry - somehow it worked its way to the edge of the worktop and fell on the floor - still mixing and no harm done! A really robust workhorse IMO.

JillsFlapjacks · 01/07/2021 13:22

I've had a Kenwood Chef Titanium for about 11 or so years, and have no complaints with it.

Tomnooktoldmeto · 01/07/2021 14:52

Used to have a kenwood then last year I got my kitchenaid 4.8litre artisan which is fantastic

We’re coeliac and I use it all the time for almost everything, cheesecakes, cakes dough, cookies, pizza dough

I got it on a very good offer from curry’s last year but got an extra bowl and silicone beater which allows me to do multiple things before I have to wash up

Lakeland often have accessories in their sale, got my 2nd bowl from them at half price

RubyGoat · 01/07/2021 14:55

I inherited an absolutely ancient Kenwood that had belonged to my DGM but it died after a few years, I looked it up & it was approximately 40 years old & they used to run a B&B so it used to get a lot of use. I bought a replacement Kenwood about 6 years ago, it’s great. Got the mincer attachment for it too.

ATrifleofFun · 01/07/2021 15:03

I have a kitchen aid 4.8L artisan that I got on black Friday 7 years ago, and kudos to John Lewis for letting me have the display model because it was the only red one left in the shop Blush. They even took some extra money off. I use it all the time, it's great!

GhostsInSnow · 01/07/2021 16:13

Proper Kenwood, absolutely. K-Mix? Not so much. If the glass bowl doesn't shatter you're doing well. The lift mechanism packed in on mine, DH managed to fudge it, but it means it doesn't have the safety cut out it should when you lift the head.
Meanwhile the Kenwood Chef MIL bought in 1970 has never missed a beat.

Beebumble2 · 01/07/2021 17:13

Kenwood Chef every time.
