Whoever made these their rules of being a grown up is a terrible grown up. I do none of these things!
The best bit of being a grown up is making up your own rules.

massiveportion · 30/06/2021 15:40

No presents allowed after the age of 12.

traveller11 · 30/06/2021 15:55

These are more like grown-up tasks I didn't realise until I was a grown-up:

Clean the fridge drip tray
Empty the washing machine filter
Defrosting the freezer regularly
De-limescaling the taps and shower

35andThriving · 01/07/2021 14:03

According to your list I am still a kid! Grin

Yaykyay · 01/07/2021 14:09

Who made these up?

But so are the skirting boards not manky if never cleaned?

NoEffingWaytoSurvive · 01/07/2021 16:09

Someone was bemoaning the state of their skirting boards and I had to confess I have never cleaned mine, nor did I know this was a 'thing' to doBlush

I do clean the skirting boards: about once every ten years.

The rest of it, nope.

randomkey123 · 01/07/2021 18:27

Empty the bin.

Something that teenagers are totally incapable of.

That's my benchmark for adulthood.

Mymapuddlington · 01/07/2021 18:28

I didn’t realise just how fucking monotonous it is to cook and clean EVERY DAY.
I bought my mum a present and a card to say thank you for all the meals and clean clothes etc because as a kid you just don’t realise

00100001 · 01/07/2021 18:30

@Yaykyay

Ehj, they get a tiny bit dusty... 🤷‍♀️

Clean out the fridge
Look for a life partner (I was too busy building a career and then suddenly I was 40 Smile)
Check the tread on my car tyres.

user1471538283 · 01/07/2021 21:52

The constant keeping on top of things. I cannot bear a mess but it means never stopping.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 02/07/2021 00:32

I didn't know I had to not do things in order to be a grown up.

Blonchette · 02/07/2021 00:55

Clean the drain holes of all hair. But I’m quite happy not to be a grown up any more if I can stop doing that.

Holothane · 02/07/2021 00:59

No crushes year right, 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Ironing no thanks did enough in my teens every bloody thing ironed.

MorriseysGladioli · 02/07/2021 01:03

Finding and cleaning the washing machine filter, and prodding something into that hole at the back of the fridge.

Astella22 · 02/07/2021 02:14

Actually read the manual

Susannahmoody · 02/07/2021 02:19

Having to have the right moral perspective all the time.
It's fucking draining, I'm such a friggin do gooder.

And not swearing or saying anything derogatory about anyone /thing in front of the kids!

Tireless

Susannahmoody · 02/07/2021 02:20

Cleaning the microwave

I mean, Wtf

Goldenphoenix · 02/07/2021 07:25

Changing the extractor fan filter. Minging job.

mellongoose · 02/07/2021 07:29

Bills. I bloody hate keeping on top of bills/insurance/house admin just so that no one rips me off!!!

Latte40 · 02/07/2021 07:35

I'll never, ever enjoy getting up and doing things first thing. Ever. In my ideal world, I'm still brought my cuppa and I take my time to come around, get dressed and leave the house.

In reality, it's dealing with the teenagers late night snack mess on the sides, DH's coffee mess from his super early get ups, picking up all the stuff others have scattered looking for things to get ready. Tried every system possible but they are all impossible to sustain longer than a few days. Seems I'm the only grown up who cares to have some order. My parents always had neatness & tidiness. Had no real appreciation for that at the time.

Craftycorvid · 02/07/2021 07:37

My skirting boards get a guilty swipe with a duster only when I’m expecting visitors or the paintwork looks a different colour due to dust. A natural home-maker I am not.

mintessa · 02/07/2021 07:41

What is this washing machine filter you speak of? Confused

Standrewsschool · 02/07/2021 07:41

A washing machine has a washing machine filter?

Cleaning the outside windowsills and doorstep - always feel grownup doing this (and reminds me of an old tv sitcom where they cleaned the doorstep on a row of terraced houses - Bread?)
