Hello
I looked out the window around 9pm tonight and noticed that someone had painted a white smiley face in the middle of my garden!!! I usually look out the window a lot because it's how I let my cats in and out. I didn't notice it In the day which I'm pretty sure I would've. Has this ever happened to anyone????? I'm a single mum so I'm pretty creeped out lol

How old are your children? Could one of them have done it with chalk or something? Maybe it’s more noticeable in a certain light?

Wegottagetoutofthisplace7 · 29/06/2021 22:43

@Heyyeahyouwiththesadface
No he's only 18 months and was with me all day, it definitely paint as there is some splattered around it.

Red John?

OrrisRoot · 29/06/2021 22:54

That is really odd. Do you have a PCSO you could call? There might have been a spate of them. It’s criminal damage, I would think.

Wegottagetoutofthisplace7 · 29/06/2021 22:55

@Cherrysoup no don't say that I'm already not sleeping tonight lol

spaceghett0 · 29/06/2021 22:57

Hmm that's weird. Have you been home all day?

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 29/06/2021 22:59

OP I don't usually say to ring 101 but I would. It is pretty clearly intimidating behaviour. Friendly would be, I dunno, tying a smiley balloon to the gatepost - actually spattering paint over your lawn feels like territory marking.

Also lock up tight. Do you have any neighbours with eg a Ring doorbell who you could ask about it tomorrow, in case they caught something? And how's your ex?

bunnytheegghunter · 29/06/2021 23:00

I had similar once, it freaked me out but nothing ever came of it, I just assumed it was kids.

Wegottagetoutofthisplace7 · 29/06/2021 23:01

@OrrisRoot I was thinking about reporting it online but I don't think it would amount to much.

HerMammy · 29/06/2021 23:01

As in painted on the grass, how big?
Is it very neat or could be kids?

crankysaurus · 29/06/2021 23:02

Students?

Wegottagetoutofthisplace7 · 29/06/2021 23:04

@spaceghett0 I went out to the park for about two hours at 4 then I was up stairs trying to get my son to sleep from about 7 till 9. I'm just sure I would of noticed it in the day as I'm always looking out for my cats.

Oooh take a photo and show it to Mumsnet the Police.

Vikingintraining · 29/06/2021 23:07

When you say in your garden, how private is that space? Is it open, as in, someone can be walking along the footpath and access it openly? Or has someone gained access to a private space?
If the former, I would say its someone probably trying to be friendly, albeit in a random way. If the latter, I would call 101 and flag it up just to be safe.

Wegottagetoutofthisplace7 · 29/06/2021 23:09

@JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff yes I might report it I've texted my neighbour but they said they didn't see anyone sorry I should of explained better it's my back garden,my house is at the end of a Terrance and it's connected to a walkway so it's easy to get in if you wanted to.

OP posts:
Wegottagetoutofthisplace7 · 29/06/2021 23:11

@Vikingintraining it's my back garden but it's right next to a walkway you can just open the sidegate I don't have a proper secure lock on it which I am definitely going to buy tomorrow lol

CupOfTPlease · 29/06/2021 23:13

Please report it. I'd be shitting my pants and thinking of all sorts.

Make sure your windows and doors are locked. Don't leave keys in the windows and don't leave keys in the door tonight if they're easily accessible to anybody. Obviously keep them by you incase you needed them.

Wegottagetoutofthisplace7 · 29/06/2021 23:13

@WorraLiberty lol I'll try to get a clear one from the window I don't really want to go out there lol I've watched too many horror movies and I'm black so I'll definitely die first 😂

DragonTeeth · 29/06/2021 23:15

How odd!

MrsMercury · 29/06/2021 23:15

as others have said make sure you and little one are secure tonight double check all doors and windows and maybe have someone to call onstandby if you need too.

Wegottagetoutofthisplace7 · 29/06/2021 23:17

@HerMammy yeah I have a concrete back garden it's just in the middle and like the size of the slab, there are a lot of neighbourhood kids around so I'm hoping it was them lol it is neat but there are a few splotches of paint surrounding it

No probably not, but if some oik is making a habit of it, they might keep an eye out and clear up several cases at once. It would be good if whoever it was got some consequences, even if the chance is slight.

Vikingintraining · 29/06/2021 23:22

But if it's your back garden and it's gated, whether or not your lock is secure, someone has trespassed on your private space. Report it!

Guavafish · 29/06/2021 23:23

Odd
