Fed slightly out of date eggs to visiting child

Hello. Sorry for tedious question.

I've just given soft boiled eggs to a child who's visiting, and have now realised they're 2 days past their best before date. Do I need to inform her mum, or would that be silly? They've been stored in the fridge. What's the etiquette?

TIA

I’d say that’s fine it’s best before not use by or expired. Mine have eaten after best before eggs with no effects

Clymene · 27/06/2021 18:22

Beat before means literally that. That the eggs will be better if you eat them before that date. Not that you can't eat them after. With eggs it just means they're a bit flatter and they won't make great meringues.

You really don't need to tell her mum.

Honestly, if you've ever smelled an egg that is off, you'd know!

Floralnomad · 27/06/2021 18:23

You can definitely tell by the smell if an egg is off so don’t worry about it .

TWO days? Eggs? They last for agggeees longer than the label says, I thought that was common knowledge. Like they don’t need to be kept in the fridge.

THNG5 · 27/06/2021 18:23

I have never paid attention to the date on eggs. If it's off, you'll know it! And I don't store them in the fridge.

Mumdiva99 · 27/06/2021 18:25

Eggs last ages..... no problem at all. No need to tell anyone.

TheSquigglething · 27/06/2021 18:25

Oh, thank you, all!
I know her mum gets very anxious, so don't want to worry her if it's fine. And it sounds like it is indeed fine. Thanks again.
I didn't notice anything unusual about the smell. They just smelled like eggs, and the child seemed to like them.

Thanks again

Eggs last for months, genuinely. Ignore the dates on them, don't keep them in the fridge. You will know if one is bad.

amylou8 · 27/06/2021 18:33

Eggs last for ages past the BB date. I'll eat them past a month without a second thought. It's also very obvious if they're off.

4PawsGood · 27/06/2021 18:34

I agree. You’d know if they were off.

Eleoura · 27/06/2021 18:37

You will know a bad egg instantly!!! Your nose and eyes are the best judge. I use eggs long past the best before date on the pack!

How do you think people lived and coped pre packets and dates??? Or those with home chickens? Hmm

Crinkle77 · 27/06/2021 19:32

They're not out if date. It's a best before rather than use by date. Put thrm in a pan of cold water and as long as they don't completely float they'll be fine.

Verbena87 · 27/06/2021 19:37

Bad eggs smell unmistakable- will be fine!

Me too.
BunnyBerries · 27/06/2021 19:41

Eggs last an extra 3 weeks if put in the fridge so don't worry Smile

Trinacham · 27/06/2021 19:45

I always eat eggs after their best before date! Never caused me any issues. Although not I'm pregnant I'll be much more careful.

Trinacham · 27/06/2021 19:45

PrincessesRUs · 27/06/2021 20:07

I always use eggs past their date - it'll be fine! Two days is NOTHING!

TheVolturi · 27/06/2021 20:31

I check eggs by putting them in a bowl of water, if they lie flat at the bottom they're fresh, if they stand upright they are going off, and if they totally float then they are really bad!

Greenmarmalade · 27/06/2021 20:32

Definitely don’t tell her if she gets anxious or she might overreact and worry unnecessarily.

This - doesn't everyone do this? I do.
sorryforswearing · 27/06/2021 20:51

I’m very fussy about out of date food as I’m susceptible to stomach upsets but I eat out of date eggs all the time and I’m always fine. I think the smell would tell you if they were off.

coogee · 27/06/2021 20:59

The eggs I buy don’t have dates in them. I keep them for weeks and I’ve never had one go off.

They must last a month after they have been laid, at least.

Souther · 27/06/2021 21:01

I usually eat within a couple of weeks past the bb date

HmmmmmmInteresting · 27/06/2021 21:03

Best before means best before. Telling the parent would be ridiculous. Are you sure you're not the anxious one?
