Fed slightly out of date eggs to visiting child

Hello. Sorry for tedious question.

I've just given soft boiled eggs to a child who's visiting, and have now realised they're 2 days past their best before date. Do I need to inform her mum, or would that be silly? They've been stored in the fridge. What's the etiquette?

TIA

My farm eggs don't have a date on them and I don't know why the supermarkets out such a short date on, even if it is best before and not use by. If they've been in the fridge for more than 2-3 weeks I float test them, but to be honest, I've never cracked an egg and it's been off. Even ones that are on their way out are fine if they are fully cooked. The child in question will be absolutely fine.

Eggs last for AGES. This isn’t something you need to worry about.

Thank you. I've learned a lot from this thread. I'd sort of classed eggs with other animal products till now, in that I'd always stuck with dates and refrigerated.
I'm very glad I didn't say anything to her mum now! It would have made an issue where there was none.
Thanks again.

If you soft boiled them in a pan and they didn't float, you're good.

They'll be fine. The best before date on eggs in the UK assumes room temperature storage.

Eggs are easy to check with the float-sink test. Put the egg in cold water. If it sinks to the bottom and lies on its side it's fresh. If it sinks but sits up on its end on the bottom it's older but still safe to eat; may be tastier boiled rather than scrambled or omletted. If it floats it's too old, throw it away.

Chicken and meat I would never take a risk with- esp chicken, and fish is never good after the date. Eggs however last weeks after apparently and I wouldn't worry at all.

I always do the float/sink test on out of date eggs, only ever had one float on me and that was very out of date. 2 days is nothing. Plus you don’t have to keep them in the fridge.

eggs last ages. I eat ours a month pst bbd. though I check them first, would never use them for boiled, just fried or scrambled.

really old eggs, float in water. old eggs lift up at one end.

if you crack them open and the yolk is flat, don't use.

Jennobop · 28/06/2021 06:29

Definitely fine! The date on eggs means nothing. Don’t store them in the fridge !

birdglasspen · 28/06/2021 06:53

Put them in water if any left, if they float they are off, at 2 days over they will be fine!

CorianderBee · 28/06/2021 09:14

If the eggs don't look, smell or taste off then they're not off. I've eaten eggs a month after their best before date because they're perfectly fine

aiwblam · 28/06/2021 09:31

Forget about it. Eggs are gross when they are off and you would have known.

CoffeeDay · 28/06/2021 09:40

Don't tell her!! I'm emetophobic and the anxiety of knowing is far worse than the potentially tiny outcome of the child being ill. I've eaten 2 day out of day eggs myself (DH cooked and I only noticed the box much later on) and nothing happened.

SleepingStandingUp · 28/06/2021 09:50

I always spin my eggs to make sure they're fresh. Any worries from that I'd put them in a bowl of water. But we always use eggs past their expiry
