vertical blinds v.s net curtains who wins the day ?

i've always had nets, they got grotty easily as we lived near a busy road, so always washing them. Getting them to hang right was always a flaff too.
we've now moved to a very quiet area, no road near by and there are vertical blinds and i must admit I love them. Smile
Am i still in the honeymoon phase or will i be tearing them down any time soon and gnashing my teeth at the blasted things.? Angry

I hate nets. I think they're dated and just so ugly. We have blinds.

I do dust them every week, they don't need doing each week but it helps keep the dust off them!

warmandtoasty2day · 26/06/2021 18:42

That sounds an okay job to do, i really have gone off nets big time.

Love my nets !

peruse · 26/06/2021 18:44

Neither… Venetian blinds!

SquashMinusIsShit · 26/06/2021 18:51

We have vertical blinds but I'd prefer really pale coloured Venetian blinds so the windows are obscured but don't block the lights.

Sunny4876 · 26/06/2021 19:16

Definitely vertical but do like wooden venetian more.

LittleJules59 · 26/06/2021 19:17

I have vertical blinds which I got with my house. I'd like to know how to clean them better, beyond just dusting. Anyone? After a couple of years they are starting to look a bit grubby.

EversoDelighted · 26/06/2021 19:22

We take the slats off our vertical blinds, coil them up and put them in the washing machine. Then when they are still damp, run the iron down them and re-hang them to dry.

pussycatlickinglollyices · 26/06/2021 19:24

Nets at the front, as NDN has a habit of staring into my living room as she makes multiple attempts to reverse off her drive Hmm It's nearly 3m wide so too big for venetians.

Vertical blinds in the conservatory, although the cats have trashed the chains, handy for tilting against the sun to let light in.

JackieTheFart · 26/06/2021 19:34

Interesting. A similar thread recently had the majority of responses being that vertical blinds are like living in a dentists office!

I prefer plain nets to vertical blinds any day of the week.

Tiddlywinkly · 26/06/2021 19:37

Can I put shutters into the mix? I've got ones the still offer privacy.

I’ve always associated vertical blinds with offices

MrsPatrickDempsey · 26/06/2021 19:39

Another vote for shutters. Love mine.

Floralnomad · 26/06/2021 19:40

Neither , nets are really dated and vertical blinds are for offices .

Meredusoleil · 26/06/2021 19:40

My preference would be

  1. Shutters
  2. Venetian blinds
  3. Roller blinds
  4. Nets/voiles
  5. Vertical blinds
Sonarl · 26/06/2021 19:42

Neither here. I have shutters or blinds.

Itsstartingtorainout · 26/06/2021 19:42

Both are horrible in my opinion. Nets are old-fashioned and vertical blinds make me feel like I’m at the doctors.

honeybuns007 · 26/06/2021 19:43

Vertical blinds are ugly. They rock an office vibe. Not a cool office. A

honeybuns007 · 26/06/2021 19:43

A dusty 80s office. But they do angle conveniently for light and privacy

parietal · 26/06/2021 19:46

Not shutters or vertical blinds. Modern nets (eg flat panels) or roller blinds.

Bathshebahardy · 26/06/2021 19:49

Nets are old fashioned and venetian blinds are for offices. Not sure about vertical blinds.

Flaunch · 26/06/2021 19:53

Neither here. I just have curtains that I never close because we aren’t really overlooked and I don’t really care if the occasional passer by looks in. We only ever close the curtains/Roman blinds upstairs. I would never in a million years have nets as they are hideous things and Venetian blinds are, as pp said, for offices.

JaninaDuszejko · 26/06/2021 19:58

Both are naff. A tree in your front garden is the best way to have privacy.

YelloYelloYello · 26/06/2021 20:00

I can’t believe the positive responses. Vertical blinds just make me think dentists and offices.

If you’re now in a very quiet area then you don’t need nets. Shutters, curtains or fabric blinds will make your rooms look and feel more comfortable and put together.

That being said: you love what you love. And just because it’s not to everyones tastes doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have vertical blinds if you want them.
