i've always had nets, they got grotty easily as we lived near a busy road, so always washing them. Getting them to hang right was always a flaff too.
we've now moved to a very quiet area, no road near by and there are vertical blinds and i must admit I love them. Smile
Am i still in the honeymoon phase or will i be tearing them down any time soon and gnashing my teeth at the blasted things.? Angry

I should add that we only have vertical blinds on the patio doors in our kitchen, where they really don't look too dentisty, perhaps because they are full height and not just down to a windowsill. They don't look all that great, but they are the only option as there's no room at the sides for curtains and anything horizontal would cut out sky and light at the top - I went right through Blinds 2 Go a couple of years ago to see if there were any alternatives.. We are planning to take them down when we have the kitchen refurbished and see if we can do without, but the doors do look very big and black in winter without them shut and they do seem to keep a bit of heat in overnight.

For actual windows I like white wood effect venetian blinds, I'm not keen on shutters though. Nets are a total no.

I have cream vertical leaf patterned blinds and I have a couple of horizontal type which are so much harder to keep clean and free of dust . I know vertical aren't the fashion but they're so much easier. I just put them in the bath with washing powder once a year and put them back up to drip dry . No trouble at all !

Net / voile > vertical blinds.
Vertical blinds are so corporate… but 80’s corporate.
Shutters > Venetian > net > vertical

Oh, I don't find our horizontal ones any bother to keep clean, just swoosh them with a feather duster when they're closed.

neither
horizontal blinds are very dentist surgery.
and nets can look very 'funeral home' if they are very neatly pleated.
wooden blinds or shutters or plissee blinds

Have verticals on a huge south facing window at the front of our property. They are brilliant for keeping out the sun when you want while still allowing light in. Also have them in the conservatory. Our front ones are quite unusual and I think they look great. Hoover them to clean. Have washed the more standard cream ones in the conservatory by rolling, putting in a pillowcase in the machine on a cold/cool wash. Hang while still damp. I also replaced all the chains on these as they were a bit grotty as they were already in situ when we moved in.
DS has them in his lounge in a rental property, he calls them old peoples blindsGrin but won't change them because they are "brilliant for keeping the sun out"Hmm

Forgot to add I don't have vertical blinds. I think they're a bit professional looking. We have wooden ones.

I hate nets Sorry OP. I just think they’re really out dated now. Vertical blinds look a bit Office-y to me (prefer plantation/ Venetian blinds) but the vertical ones would win over nets every day.

Please burn the nets (sorry- not sorry ☺️)

LittleBearPad · 26/06/2021 23:16

I didn’t think anyone had net curtains now.

SoftSheen · 26/06/2021 23:16

Roman blinds, or wooden plantation shutters.
