What ridiculously mundane things have excited you recently?

My washing machine broke last weekend so I quickly picked one and am expecting it tomorrow. I've only just sat down to really look at the features and I'm incredibly excited that I can add washing AFTER the cycle has started. And the reviews say it's actually quiet! I just want to tell everyone, but DP is looking at me like I'm a loon so thought I would share it here instead.

Honestly, I do have 'fun' hobbies too!

What really silly, mundane, downright boring to everyone else thing has excited you recently?

Argh, feeling really alone in my excitement over something so trivial here Grin

I got an instant pot two days ago. I've been waiting for them to go on offer, which they did on prime day! Certain areas of the Internet might think this is great...in real life...nobody even knows what it is...Sad

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 24/06/2021 16:40

getting a green wave all the way to school this morning!
it almost never happens!
it was exhilarating 🤣

When the bin men empty my recycling bin and I can finally fill it again with all the boxes and bottles lying around :D

drum123 · 24/06/2021 16:46

I rethreaded my rotary washing line (with a new cord), rather than buy a whole new one. I was dead chuffed with myself. Everyone I told glazed over instantly. Smile

SoMuchForSummerLove · 24/06/2021 16:47

I booked myself onto a conference about decarbonisation in the construction industry Blush

I've worn a new dress for the first time today. I was mainly concentrating on de-emphasising my stomach when I bought it* and it works like a charm for that, so really pleased.

Put it on today, smoothed it down over my sides and I discovered... POCKETS!

I'd not noticed the reference to pockets in the description and it's made me so happy!

*A non-mundane thing that would make me happy would to become the consistency of plasticine for a few minutes so I could squeeze the excess from my stomach round to my practically non-existent hips and pancake-flat bottom.

Since that won't happen, I'll settle for unexpected pockets.

My DH did an online team building afternoon (looked genuinely fun judging by the laughter and general carrying on) and they all got sent sweets and gin to have during it. He doesn’t drink and is watching his weight so I got them all! I was ridiculously pleased - I don’t get anything like that at my team building days - private v public sector Grin

I bought a bird feeding table a week or so ago. Finally got around to putting it together last night and today I had my first diners - thoroughly enjoyed watching them.

We bought some colour changing solar garden lights and put them along the edges of the lawn around 2 weeks ago. Every night I spend at least a few minutes watching them Blush I think DH thinks I'm a bit nuts sad!

CurryLover55 · 24/06/2021 16:57

I absolutely love my new kettle! It has little led lights & as the water boils, the lights change colour about half a dozen times! Get such a thrill from watching it boil!

SoMuchForSummerLove · 24/06/2021 16:58

Oh unexpected pockets are the BUSINESS

Sparklingbrook · 24/06/2021 16:59

These are very nice. £1.29 for a box of 4 in Home Bargains.

I discovered I could give my children random demands via Alexa! They shit themselves at the spontaneity, then laughed, but it amused me. I could even add fart noises!!

NotExactlyHappyToHelp · 24/06/2021 17:08

I spotted a fancy duvet cover I splashed out on a while ago at 75% off so I bought another one. Beyond happy at my bargain. It’s 100% cotton and makes me feel swish.

HurryUpBetelgeuse · 24/06/2021 17:23

I've enjoyed dashing to the window to see what the cat is looking at (is it a bird?!). Very exciting.

FelicityBeedle · 24/06/2021 17:45

DP was working in a port town today and bought a massive bag of langoustines for cheap off the quay! I can’t wait for them. We normally buy seafood from the reduced bay in the supermarket and never get prawn type thjngs

TheNestedIf · 24/06/2021 19:06

Google Street View where I live is an absolute mish-mash of different time periods, but if you pick precisely the right place and precisely the right angle, you can see the friendly ginger cat who lives on the corner of my road.

Wotrewelookinat · 24/06/2021 19:46

I’ve bought myself some new prescription swimming goggles! My old ones are about 10 years old, leak and have a broken strap tied together in a knot. They’re not even that expensive, should have bought them years ago!

YesPleaseMary · 24/06/2021 19:49

My new cordless iron arrived the other day… it is very precise and hot instead of dribbly and a bit crap like the old one. I could slice cheese with DH’s shirt sleeves now!

elizabethdraper · 24/06/2021 19:53

I move up dumb bell weights in the gym from 6kg to 7.5kg

My husband laughed at my weakness, I don't care

Wbeezer · 24/06/2021 19:54

I went on a lime mortar re-pointing course last week and today visited Cowdenbeath to buy lime, i was quite excited.

If you became the consistency of plasticine your hands wouldn't work proprly to squeeze you into another shape GrinGrinGrin
Steelesauce · 24/06/2021 19:55

My Mum got herself an air fryer and I was so excited to teach her how to use it. She made potatoes wedges, they came out perfect 🤣

IHaveBrilloHair · 24/06/2021 19:57

The announcement of the date when The Kissing Booth 3 will be released.

speakout · 24/06/2021 20:00

The mundane things contain the most pleasure for me.
Being able to dry my clothes in a soft warm wind.
The fact that tomato seeds I planeted back in March are now 6 foot high, covered in flowers.
That I have a soft quiet bed, clean drinking water.
