Black tie wedding in November. I want something I can potentially wear again but is also formal as it’s at a v snazzy London hotel! Thanks :) I would wear a high heel not a wedge sandal like the model!

No sorry - black tie is, well the colour of the mans bow tie, it's not a suitable colour for a ladies dress to a wedding, you literally have every other colour to pick from (apart from white!)

I have a couple of scuba dresses and they are great for not creasing so that's a bonus if you'll be doing a lot of sitting

I think that particular one though is too dowdy and casual for a black tie wedding. Doesn't look flattering and whilst I know black is supposedly now acceptable for weddings, that's quite a big expanse...

Sure there must be something better out there
What's your colouring like, are there certain shades you always feel good in?

MyAnacondaMight · 21/06/2021 22:58

Nope. I like the dress, but it’s too casual for black tie, and wearing black to a wedding isn’t a great look on anyone. As above: black tie doesn’t mean black dress!

Also suggest picking something with sleeves, so that you’re not hiding the dress under a jacket the whole night. You might need to wait a couple of months for autumn/winter collections to hit the rails, though.

No from me. It’s black and a bit too casual, bulky looking.
I exclude 3 colours from wedding outfits as a guest (black, white & red).

MachiaNelly · 21/06/2021 23:18

There must be 100s of more suitable dresses. That looks dull to me and side boob not a good look in my opinion.

It seems fine but if it is a high end hotel black tie wedding - you may need to take it up a notch and opt for a dress which is more dressy and glamorous and dare I say less plain and multifunctional. I am sure you will accessorise accordingly to max out the elegance and glamour potential of this dress but if possible perhaps a dress which is slightly more dressy, glamorous or less generic? I am sure you will look amazing in killer heels, hat and accessories even with this dress!

I agree with pp - it's a high end, black tie, smart winter function. As much as I like Cos and this dress, maybe something with a bit more va voom? Treat yourself after lockdown!

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 22/06/2021 08:00

It is grim on IMO-really unflattering as the material is so thick and didn’t sit well on me. (5’5” size 10) I looked HUGE! Always find Cos stuff a bit weird like that.

Quitelikeacatslife · 22/06/2021 08:16

I mean you definitely could wear it but I wouldn't buy it specially , there are loads of amazing deals on evening type dresses , get something you love.

Fairyliz · 22/06/2021 08:55

By the time you have glammed it up with bright accessories, found something suitable to keep your arms warm and bought heels, wouldn’t it just be easier to buy something more appropriate in the first place?

UpSlyDown · 22/06/2021 09:27

All good points everyone. Thanks so much! I agree it could look too casual with the scuba material and completely insane on. I’m not one for ever dressing super glam so I’d feel more comfortable in this dressed up a bit than something really formal but I also want to be respectful to the bride and groom and dress code obviously! I have ordered it to try anyway Smile I’ll let you know!
