So a 96yr old man has a heart attack. Most mornings he has bacon/eggs etc fried in oil. Would your position be to cut down on the oily foods because they aren't very healthy for anyone at that rate let alone a near centenarian but would your view be well you're 96 so if you fancy also breaking out a crack-pipe have at it!!!

Just curious as I'm not sure where I stand on this and I do have a stake in this particular battle.

If I'm lucky enough to reach 96, I'll be indulging myself as if each meal was my last supper Grin

HarebrightCedarmoon · 21/06/2021 22:17

Saturated fat is not linked to heart disease

Animal fat is, and so is processed meat consumption.

Still, I'd not stop someone of that age enjoying it if they want to.

2bazookas · 21/06/2021 22:17

I'd say its his life and he should enjoy it to the full . with as much saturated fat , booze, cigars, loose women, karaoke and gambling as he fancies.

Crack and oil for sure

Unsuremover · 21/06/2021 22:19

This drives me crazy with the people I know and their elderly relatives. If they are in their 90’s what exactly are we protecting their heart from? After decades of eating however they ate suddenly changing it from raw veggies and mineral water isn’t going to make them 50 again. Ok in some cases it might hasten death but tomorrow is never guaranteed. If you didn’t nag at 50 when it could/would have made a difference why is suddenly ok to do it now.

HandforthParishCouncilClerk · 21/06/2021 22:19

Streaky bacon baked in the oven on a baking tray is the BEST bacon so I’d say switch from frying it in oil for that reason alone, but other than that, at 96 you earn the right to eat as you damn well please!

CorpusCallosum · 21/06/2021 22:21

He's allowed to make an unwise decision. I'd support him to have his bacon if that's what he wants to do.

There is no battle. Choice is real.

BeBloodyBold · 21/06/2021 22:24

His body his choice.

36degrees · 21/06/2021 22:24

#teamcrackpipe is giving me new bacony life goals.

EwwSprouts · 21/06/2021 22:24

Bacon & eggs all the way. We have to die of something and a heart attack late nineties is not a bad way to go. Better than long drawn out pain ridden months in hospital or years of dementia.

SpiderinaWingMirror · 21/06/2021 22:24

If he has made it to 96, I'd carry on personally.Treat him like the adult he is and support his choices.
My dmum is a little over 80. She enjoys a good drink. I refuse to have a view on an adult making a decision about their own life!

SafferUpNorth · 21/06/2021 22:27

I'd say if he's made it to 96, the daily bacon and eggs have done him good!!

RealhousewifeofStoke · 21/06/2021 22:27

It would be utterly cruel to deprive a 96 year old man who is dependant on others to prepare and provide food for him, of the foods that give him pleasure.
I know there’s lots of banter on this thread but when did we lose the ability to recognise the inevitability of illness and death for 96 year olds Let the man have quality of life for whatever time he has left.

prettyvisitor · 21/06/2021 22:28

Bloody hell, I'll be eating what I damn well fancy at that age, even if it is carrot cake for breakfast. Leave them be!

BoredOfThisShit · 21/06/2021 22:29

At 96 he really is entitled to eat what he wants

Moggymoggymogmogs · 21/06/2021 22:34

Team crackpipe. And if he can't hold the crack pipe himself then I would hold it for him.

Rubytoos · 21/06/2021 22:35

@enjoyingscience

Fry up with clotted cream on top if he fancies, with a lovely crack pipe to finish.
😂🤣😂🤣
beefest · 21/06/2021 22:36

@CrotchetyQuaver

My dads 96, I think he's earnt the right to do whatever he wants. He's still living independently, driving himself and doing his own shopping. At that age they're not going to go
Wow! He is truly amazing
Erinrose82 · 21/06/2021 22:40

Well it's certainly kept him going ! And real fat is far healthier then low fat chemical substitute. Also why care ? It's totally up to him. Maybe he wants a change or maybe he enjoys it. Goodness no one would bat an eye lid fifty years ago ! My grandmother just turned 94, she has a lie in every morning and stays up till 3am. She had six children and says frankly she can do what she likes. She also enjoys jäger in a glass as a wine tonic in the afternoon! All of is joke we could hustle her out in a bar... 7 stone 94 year old and it doesn't touch her ! She never would get drunk ( her choice and upbringing) but why should she stop ? If you can't do what you like in your last decades then is a poor reflection on society.
Team crack pipe !

Northernlurker · 21/06/2021 22:42

At that age it's frailty that kills, not fat. He needs to eat as much as he can manage and bacon sounds excellent.
Agree about dnar also. It's not don't treat but nobody short of the Messiah is going to get that heart to beat again if it stops so best to agree to let him go if he goes.

Dullardmullard · 21/06/2021 22:44

You do know there is no correlation to heart attacks being caused by bacon and eggs cooked in oil

Leave him be to enjoy it all it’s 96 ffs.

Dullardmullard · 21/06/2021 22:45

He’s *

Nanalisa60 · 21/06/2021 22:50

Jesus If I get to 96 I’m going to eat what I bloody well fancy!! My MIL was like that with FIL she would not let him eat butter or white bread, so when they came to stay I only have butter and would buy him lovely white pan loaf from the bakers, I would say fill your boots enjoy it!!

MyShoelaceIsUndone · 21/06/2021 22:50

if I get to 96 and someone starts telling me how to live my life I’ll fry them in lard and peg them out for the birds
