Weeing behind a bush in the park

To be clear up front; I am neither the person weeing nor the person complaining . Just seen this on a local FB page and thought MN might like to debate this one.

Local park, where there are toilets but not predictable if/when they will be open.

Busy local FB page, someone posted along the lines of 'if you were the woman weeing behind a bush in xxx park today when my children might have seen you with your trousers down, I hope you are ashamed of yourself'

Very mixed responses.... before I share them (or my personal thoughts), what do you think?

If it was a choice between the Bush or wetting myself, I'd opt for the Bush. Its not ideal, obviously.

Bksjshsbbev2737 · 20/06/2021 20:51

I think unless you have some kind of medical need where you can’t wait then it’s not really on especially where people can actually see you.

PurrBox · 20/06/2021 20:51

I don't think women wee behind bushes for fun. The wee-er was probably desperate, and kids should be able to cope with a bit of al fresco weeing!

GreyhoundG1rl · 20/06/2021 20:52

I wouldn't post it on Facebook, but I'd be a bit Hmm if my kids were playing nearby. Adults should be able to get themselves to the toilet without resorting to bushes in a public park.

NiceGerbil · 20/06/2021 20:52

With the public toilet situation I think it's going to happen.

Men do it way more than women.

Why stay in a park until you're wetting yourself?
Verbena87 · 20/06/2021 20:54

After my birth injuries and resulting pelvic floor dysfunction, I wouldn’t judge. And if you’ve never pissed all over yourself by accident in public whilst sober, I think you don’t have enough emotional data to make that judgement either. Not everyone can wait.

QuadrupleCarbs · 20/06/2021 20:54

If people can see you pissing they're being unreasonable going to the loo in the bush.

Melitza · 20/06/2021 20:55

The dc's parent needs to chill.
If someone's behind a bush then they're trying to be discreet.

NiceGerbil · 20/06/2021 20:56

They presumably never had their kids go behind a bush when they were toilet training then...!

HotPenguin · 20/06/2021 20:56

I did this today, but it was in a fairly remote place and there were no toilets. I don't think children will be scarred for life by seeing someone take a piss. Men do it often enough and noone bats an eyelid. I also find it strange that people object to humans pissing outdoors, yet noone minds when dogs to do it. That said I wouldn't do it in a busy park, I think I would sooner wet myself!

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 20/06/2021 20:57

Adults should be able to get themselves to the toilet without resorting to bushes in a public park.

Unless they are pregnant or have a multitude of medical issues which result in urgency.

Or if they had gone to the park on the basis of there being toilets, which turned out to be closed.

I would never choose to wee behind a bush but would definitely wee behind a bush before I wet myself.

What would people do if their child needed a wee with some urgency before they could get home? Or a dog?

Well you should find a private spot but its the only option in an emergency now that park toilets are shut. I mean a day out type big park, not a small local park. Mind you as I get older I now have to be careful what I drink if I know I'm going to be out for a while. Tree wee is very much last resort.

What terrible thing is going to happen to your dc. They may see a stream of urine and a very embarrassed woman who couldn't find a toilet in time.

Can’t judge without knowing the circumstances. Since having my third I have been caught short on more than one occasion. It’s horrible and humiliating. Esp during lockdown when so many loos were closed. I had to abandon a trolley full on food in a supermarket as I was suddenly absolutely desparate and the loos were closed and knew if I didn’t make it home to the loo within 10 mins there would be an accident.

Alternatively.... if you can see someone weeing behind a bush, accept that it is an emergency and turn away, taking your children with you .....

@GreyhoundG1rl some people have bladder conditions where they just can't wait. It can come on from nowhere.

GreyhoundG1rl · 20/06/2021 21:00

Was it you, op? You've no idea whether it was an "emergency" or not, have you?

What would they do if they were in a supermarket, rather than a park?

Bootskates · 20/06/2021 21:01

I think she was probably desperate, feel sorry for her getting called out online.

Hate this trend of not saying anything at the time then getting on the local fb page after the fact "to the woman that cut in front of me in the queue at Tesco at 2pm today...."drives me barmy

Bigwave · 20/06/2021 21:01

I'd think.. poor woman is obviously desperate and look the other way. and certainly wouldn't post about it to humiliate someone who was probably embarrassed enough at having to do it. then I'd hope the person who posted gets the shits in public

vickylou78 · 20/06/2021 21:03

I really can't see the big deal?! How does someone weeing behind a bush presumably discretely, cause issues for children?? They would probably just find it amusing surely!!
Men pee outside all the time...I can't see the difference if a lady is desperate and the loos are closed.

I'm terrible at needing a wee. Often wee behind a hedge in the countryside as do my children (haven't at a really busy public park).

I think people need to get some perspective!

SquishySquirmy · 20/06/2021 21:04

I think it's not great, but if you're caught short you're caught short!

Actually a park with unreliable public toilets which are sometimes randomly closed makes it more likely that this will happen then a park with no toilets. Because if you know in advance that there are no toilets in a park, you can plan your time accordingly and get home in time. But if the last time you went there the toilets were open, you might reasonably assume that they would be again. And that you can drink when thirsty and not worry about leaving before you need the loo... then find that they are closed!

At least she was behind a bush, so clearly trying to get some privacy. Not like she was in the playground weeing off the top of the climbing frame!

I've already said it's not me. I wasn't there so can't comment on the woman's situation. FB was completely split between it being disgusting, and those who have sympathy because of their own experiences or their childrens'

I once saw a man urinate up the wall underneath a cash point when there was a mcdonalds 10 feet from him. That was utterly disgusting. Someone using a Bush in a park where there's also probably dog and badger and squirrel piss i can't get worked up about
