Does anyone else's village do a scarecrow competition?

Because mine does and this is our entry.

Big bad wolf and little red riding hood.

Was the brief DD gave herself.

Or the Queen gone werewolf on a hooker Princess Anne.

I carried a load of straw back from the yard for this.

Do you think we'll win?

No.

LilacSorbet · 20/06/2021 17:17

Normally, but not since Covid.

I think you've got a good chance of winning!

YouPrettyThings · 20/06/2021 17:17

It's not the winning - it's the participating that matters most.

We do a scarecrow festival too - I'm sorry but yours is unlikely to win (we've never won) but people will thoroughly enjoy scarecrows and that's what matters 😉

Trevsadick · 20/06/2021 17:19

Lots of them do round here.

I think its a good scarecrow display, you should be proud. But, winning, really depends on how much effort everyone else puts in.

Some villages here, take it to a whole new level and some take weeks to set up, have moving parts, things that move in sensors, music to accompany it.

Pinuporc · 20/06/2021 17:20

Weve been to a village scarecrow festival and it was great (we dont live in the village but it's not that far away)

BlueSurfer · 20/06/2021 17:21

Yes and several other local villages do as well. They are great fun.

Good luck.

Shannith · 20/06/2021 17:31

N.B. We have zero expectation of winning - it was a rhetorical question! We did it for fun.

Some people, as a PP has said have gone all out and some... more have gone half out with whatever they could find in the spare room - like us.

My favourite is a brilliant Sir Tom one, complete with walking frame.

One year someone put a workman scarecrow up a telegraph pole. Bit of rain/wind and to people driving past who don't live in the village it looked like a real person dangling.

They took it down in the end.

Yes, well not where I specifically live but a large estate (which would’ve once been it’s own village but is now swallowed up as part of the town) do, and we go walking around there looking at the entries

Ellmau · 20/06/2021 17:46

I know a few that do it. Yours is brilliant!

FedUpAtHomeTroels · 20/06/2021 17:56

Ours does and some of them are pretty clever.
Most get a picture posted on the village facebook page. Lots of football themes due to the Euros right now.

romany4 · 20/06/2021 18:54

Mine does.
I. In Yorkshire

Spied · 20/06/2021 18:58

Live close to a village that does this.
Last year they had a Sir Tom with Zimmer too.
Mary Poppins atop a lamppost with her umbrella was my personal fav.

randomkey123 · 20/06/2021 18:58

Our village did it, but it got stupidly competitive. When someone's pride and joy had its head removed and got put on top of the signpost going out of the village there was nearly a war Grin

So it got banned.

FluffyPJs · 20/06/2021 18:58

One near me does. Last year someone did a police officer scarecrow with a speed camera, it was very realistic!

Kanaloa · 20/06/2021 19:12

How cute. I don’t live in a village but seeing this reminded me of the one in This Country, where the villagers become crazily competitive over getting good scarecrow ‘pitches’ so they will win the competition.

iklboo · 20/06/2021 19:14

We're not a village but our town does. We did Ziggy Scaredust last year.

RampantIvy · 20/06/2021 19:18

Yes. They did a scarecrow trail last year. it was very successful.

BarbaraofSeville · 20/06/2021 19:44

In normal times yes, but obviously we didn't have one last year and I don't think there's one this year as it's normally some time in June, I think.

It was an annual thing for decades, so hopefully it will come back.

MissAmandaLa1kes · 20/06/2021 19:45

Yes Seamill in north ayrshire.

Good luck by the way.

mnahmnah · 20/06/2021 19:47

We usually have a great one in our city suburb. It’s not just for villages Grin Not heard anything about one this year though. Yours is great!

TomatoCultivator · 20/06/2021 19:48

A nearby village to us in Wiltshire does one.
The entries are extremely skilfully made, inventive and original.
We enjoy walking round and the children adored it when they were young.

Eleoura · 20/06/2021 19:51

Not that I know of, but I only moved to this village this year.

That could be utterly terrifying if I was walking home at dusk and saw mannequins and scarecrows in peoples front yards!!! Shock

mnahmnah · 20/06/2021 19:56

I particularly liked this one a couple of years ago when I was visiting another area

MuchTooTired · 20/06/2021 19:58

Ours does one.

I’ve no idea why, and I think it’s a bit odd really!

Laiste · 20/06/2021 20:01

Yes, ours and surrounding villages. Scarecrows in deck chairs in front gardens, hanging out of car bonnets, laying on towels on the greens, ect.

First time DH (then new BF) drove up to see me he was totally freaked out Grin
