IKEA trip

We moved into a new (to us) home last week and I'm heading to IKEA tomorrow to pick up bits and bobs. I mainly need things to maximise storage space in big cupboards but also live an IKEA trip for all the unnecessary, random stuff I come home with.

What do I absolutely need to buy? What do you recommend?

Obviously the meatballs are a requirement - that goes without saying

A socktopus
Sauce to go with the meatballs
A hotdog

Underbed storage bags

What storage do you need?

FelicityPike · 18/06/2021 06:36

Don’t buy the blue & white tea towels, they’re absolute crap and don’t dry anything!
Their 3 stack pots are brilliant as is their large wok.
Their ubiquitous glasses are a must. As are their 5(?) pack of scissors.
Napkins & holder.
Ice cube trays.
Tea lights.
Mini daims.
Throw blankets for couches.
Batteries.

Marmite27 · 18/06/2021 06:37

Surely kallax if you need storage?

PantsandBoots · 18/06/2021 06:38

Skubb storage
£3 fleece blankets
Pot trivet
Drawer liner
Bath mats

lotusbell · 18/06/2021 06:42

I love these threads and there are loads of them if you search, for more inspiration.

Camomila · 18/06/2021 06:56

The big sandwhich bads with zips
Bath mats
Daim sweets

Camomila · 18/06/2021 06:57

*sandwich bags (It's too early to spell)

OneYeminRoad · 18/06/2021 07:00

Washing up brush
Alphabet biscuits
a floor lamp

Definitely a sockapus. Mine broke in the first lockdown and I ordered a million pound one from Lakeland and it's rubbish compared to Ikeas.

Eminybob · 18/06/2021 07:04

Yy to socktopus.

They now do a plug with 3 USB ports. It’s great, and has saved lots of “why have you unplugged my charger” arguments!

Eminybob · 18/06/2021 07:04

Ooh giant wine/gin glasses.

ShaunaTheSheep · 18/06/2021 07:10

Get two socktopussies, one is not enough.

Flannels, soap dishes
Pillow and mattress protectors
Drinking glasses
Non stick frying pan
Picture frames (measure pics before you go)
Another vote for the nubbly bath mats
365 white China
Desk lamps
Fake plants

DobbyTheHouseElk · 18/06/2021 07:11

Daim minis

Pack of 10 flannels for £3,50 I use these all the time on days out as a hand towel.

Everything really.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 18/06/2021 07:12

Yes to the suction washing up brush.

Cork pan rests. Use those daily.

Cupcakegirl13 · 18/06/2021 07:12

Photo frames
Food bags
Nice soap dispensers
Scissors

DobbyTheHouseElk · 18/06/2021 07:13

Kallax and the boxes. Mine are the £9 ones which are solid not fabric.

Poorlykitten · 18/06/2021 07:16

That dime bar pudding thing that was found to have fecal matter in it? 😩

Borrasca · 18/06/2021 07:26

What is a socktopus and should I go to IKEA today to get this mysterious object? Grin

Poorlykitten · 18/06/2021 07:28

A thing for hanging socks. Never used mine.

stuckinarutatwork · 18/06/2021 07:46

Rainbow bags!

lollipoprainbow · 18/06/2021 07:49

Went last week and apart from the obligatory meatballs I got:
A beautiful peace lily
Plant pot
Scissors
Food storage bags
Fairy lights
Cushions
New loo brush
Lovely scalloped bowls
Dark teal plates
Pack of flannels
New bins for all rooms
Storage box on wheels for my dd toys
Clips

Sounds like the generation game ! No cuddly toy though.

Faranth · 18/06/2021 07:53

Washing up brush
Socktopus
Bath mats
Oval grater/bowl thing
Big freezer bags

Faranth · 18/06/2021 07:53

And Bag clips!

H1978 · 18/06/2021 08:19

Those bedroom drawer dividers to store underwear. Their pans with the glass lids are brilliant too and can go in the dishwasher.

OhWhyNot · 18/06/2021 08:34

Silicone cover for pots of cream, yogurt or something similar as now they don’t come with a plastic lid. They fit so tightly if you knock it over it won’t spill
The rye crackers like a ryvita the size of a small pizza
Draw dividers
Laundry bags
