Never return anything

I've always been fairly crap at returning things but since lockdown and no changing rooms/buying on line, I have so many brand new items that I should have returned and just haven't done.

I've got a spice rack that was too big, a shower shelf that I didn't like when it arrived, and more clothes than I can bear to think about. We're not exactly millionaires and I'm trying to declutter so I really shouldn't be wasting money and space on these things but I just put them to the side and completely forget about them.

Please say I'm not alone!

I find returning a huge pain even if they pick it up! We end up keeping things that aren't quite right and making the best of them or giving away to people

Hboo31 · 16/06/2021 19:38

I end up taking a bag of brand new tagged clothes to the charity shop a couple of times a year. It feels like a very expensive donation!

Have you tried selling on local Facebook groups? If they're new items you should get a decent chunk back.

It doesn't have to be a huge hassle. I've sold a few things. One was a cheap new bed which we bought and realised we didn't want after it had been used for a week. We needed the space so we got some money back and buyer got a bargain.

BakedTattie · 16/06/2021 19:44

I never return anything cause I’m lazy.

SummerHouse · 16/06/2021 19:44

Yes. So me. I bought an expensive football kit for my son that was about five sizes too big. Gave it away to a random I hardly know. I do this all the time. I have a mental block on sending stuff back.

Yellowcrockpot · 16/06/2021 19:45

Stop buying and consuming so much stuff?
Terrible for the environment.

BarbaraofSeville · 16/06/2021 20:28

I always return things because I can't bear to waste the money.

Some shops have a really long return window. There might be things you could still take back.

purpledagger · 17/06/2021 09:00

I really don't understand this. I begrudge wasting money on unsuitable things, so I do lots of research before I purchase an item - read online reviews, check sizings, search for pictures of the items etc. As a result, my error rate is pretty low and I don't make many mistakes.

Maybe you need to ask yourself 'do I REALLY need this?' and make minimal spend on stuff you don't need your goal.
AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 17/06/2021 09:06

No way, I don't have money to waste for no reason. All that waste makes me feel a bit funny

Mrs08 · 17/06/2021 09:10

I find this utterly baffling tbh
Are you all very wealthy?

DancesWithTortoises · 17/06/2021 09:12

I'm the same. If I can't give it away it goes in the bin.

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 17/06/2021 09:16

Are there not charity shops where you are?

Do you work and finance this all yourself

purpleme12 · 17/06/2021 09:17

I've bought clothes from Dorothy Perkins since they closed their shops cos I have to buy online now from then. I never would have before.
If I needed to return clothes before off I'd pop back to the shop no problem.
But I hate online shopping only do it cos I have to and I've kept things I shouldn't have that I know I'd have returned if there was a shop open

purpleme12 · 17/06/2021 09:18

But I can't carry that on anyway. I'm going to have to force myself to get better at online shopping and returning online shopping

romdowa · 17/06/2021 09:18

This is why I rarely shop online 🤣🤣 I'd never get around to returning it.

purpleme12 · 17/06/2021 09:29

I wish I had the option

Pewpew · 17/06/2021 09:30

Sell it

CorianderBee · 17/06/2021 11:39

You must have a lot of money if you can't afford to return things....

CorianderBee · 17/06/2021 11:39

Can*

CorianderBee · 17/06/2021 11:53

That came out bafflingly but you know what I mean. It amazes me that people are so easygoing about essentially throwing money away when all they need to do is nip to the post office. Yes, it's annoying but just do it at the weekend?

Amazes me. I'm very comfortable financially but you lot must be positively wealthy to be so laissez faire about money.

Nitgel · 17/06/2021 11:56

Returning is so easy now. You just drop off and most places print the labels.

Bananalanacake · 17/06/2021 12:02

Only clothes I have bought in shops but very rarely, I never buy clothes online as you can't see the size, feel.

EmpressSuiko · 17/06/2021 12:16

Sell it all on eBay/Depop/Vinted.

DarlingWithoutYou · 17/06/2021 15:48

I don't understand why you'd do this. What a terrible waste of money! It's so easy to return most things now, amazon etc you don't even need to print a label, just wrap up in the packaging it came in and pop to post office!
