What do you do if you get up really early?

I was up before 5am this morning. Teenage dc is up too so no chance of going back to sleep!

I have made a cup of tea, put the dishwasher on and about to read my book.

Wondering what people do at this time of the morning if they are not getting ready for work.

I have to wake DCs up in 5 minutes but if not I would go for a long run.

Phoenixrising2020 · 16/06/2021 05:59

Much the same as you really. I might do my hair and makeup before the children wake up, it helps me feel a bit more present. Enjoy the peace for a little while Brew.

I'm usually leisurely getting ready for work. (work starts early but i still have loads of time to slowly get going)

on the days I don't work I still wake up early, so I enjoy the peace, do life admin, walk the dog, go to the stables. MN.

same stuff I'd do if I started the day later.

I used to walk the dog, do yoga, read in peace, make lists and generally get ready for the day. Wrote most of my phd thesis by getting up at 4.30am.
Loved it. Now that time is stolen by a 2 year old early riser 😬 can’t wait to get it back one day!

Ragwort · 16/06/2021 06:03

I love going for a walk early, I am currently staying with my brother near the sea & we are planning to go for a coastal walk and hopefully out for breakfast. At home I just love doing the day's chores and then sitting and relaxing knowing I've got the whole day to myself (no DC at home now Grin).

I'm a lark too OP, and was wondering this very thing a couple of days ago.

I sit down with a mug of good coffee and listen to the birds, ( glorious at this time of year) read my emails and browse Mumsnet. If it's a beautiful morning, I get my boots on and go for a walk in the woods, or drive ten mins to the tops and have a walk there.

I'm on a health kick at the moment so I usually go to the gym at seven.

Love the early morning. Best part of the day.

Lie on the sofa whilst the wide-awake 5 month old lives his best life on the play mat 😴

Signoramarella · 16/06/2021 06:09

Coffee in bed, plug in the kegel 8 machine for pelvic floor. Do half hour run, washing and hang out, do some divorce admin, play with the kitten, make pancakes for the kids, then ready to do school run and drive to work at 8am !

ChangingStates · 16/06/2021 06:09

Cup of tea in bed & read/ browse internet.

PinkCheetah · 16/06/2021 06:10

Morning fellow larks! I sit and catch up on TV shows I like (but DH doesn't), sometimes do chores, journal, work on my passion projects, water the plants. I love this quiet time to myself.

chutneypig · 16/06/2021 06:12

Definitely a coffee, browse the internet. That’s a hangover from when the kids were small and it was the only peace I got. I’ll usually meditate and exercise, run or some Les Mills on demand. It’s fantastic for getting my head ready for the day without a rush, I hate rushing.

BuddleiaBlooming · 16/06/2021 06:17

Sit in the garden, do yoga, housework, work work... its my most productive time of the day.

I've been up since 5.20am - my alarm is set for 6.30am just in case but I rarely need it.

Evvyjb · 16/06/2021 06:20

Cup of tea (or two), get some basic chores done, go for a run, address some work before I actually get into work.

LOVE the early morning. Have always been up and about by 6. Its my most productive time.

Twilightstarbright · 16/06/2021 06:21

Read, watch tv, chores, exercise.

JamieFrasersSassenach · 16/06/2021 06:24

Empty the dishwasher, drink coffee at a leisurely pace while listening to the birds, look on mn and just relax really. Get up at 5.30 every day just to have this hour of 'me' time. I love it!!

Foodielady · 16/06/2021 06:28

I walk the dog just after 5am then get back at 6am for coffee and to get breakfasts made and lunches packed. Husband and children all leave between 6.30am and 7.30am. Then it’s off to the gym for 8am.

EveningOverRooftops · 16/06/2021 06:30

Talk to my friend in florida. He finishes work around 1-2am (5hr difference) and we chat in the mornings then he goes to bed and I go do my mum Shite.

chaosrabbitland · 16/06/2021 06:32

gaming , get up earlier esp to do it , as it relaxes me and sets me up for the day

Forgothowmuchlhatehomeschoolin · 16/06/2021 06:32

I just did a work out in my home gym and am going to get all my chores done before the school run so l can enjoy my day and go out for lunch

LubaLuca · 16/06/2021 06:33

Feed the cats, get the milk in, make a cup of tea while emptying the dishwasher.

In summer, I often have the washing machine set to finish at the crack of dawn so I peg out early and put another load on.

Go back to bed with my cup of tea and just sit for a while enjoying the peace. I don't leave the house until 0815, but I prefer a leisurely start to a mad dash.

Early morning swim at the seven am session. Proper sets me up for the day.

YetAnotherWalk · 16/06/2021 06:35

Take my meds, read on here, make DH a coffee and listen to poor DS with horrid hayfever blow his nose 100000000 times.

Not awake early out of choice!

Vebrithien · 16/06/2021 06:35

Usually, get a load of washing on, prepare breakfasts, hoover. I love to get it all done before the children get up, as it's then manic before school/work.

Today (or any nice weather day), I'm sat outside, with a lovely coffee, listening to the birds. It's my favourite time of day.
