What do you do if you get up really early?

I was up before 5am this morning. Teenage dc is up too so no chance of going back to sleep!

I have made a cup of tea, put the dishwasher on and about to read my book.

Wondering what people do at this time of the morning if they are not getting ready for work.

I woke up early this morning (a bit before 6) because a mosquito was buzzing around my face. I had two peaceful cups of tea and read some threads before DS woke up at 8. If I wasn't so tired I might have gone for a walk as OH isn't at work this morning, a morning walk would be lovely but too tired.

HelenaJustina · 16/06/2021 06:39

Got up at 5.30am this morning, normally 5.50am. Used the extra 20 minutes to go for a lovely cool run. I always empty the dishwasher, hang the laundry out, set the table for breakfast, have my breakfast and then start rousing the DC. Have to be out of the house at 7.15am to get DC to the bus stop.

CrepuscularCritter · 16/06/2021 06:41

Also sitting listening to the birds with a coffee and a book, while making occasional additions to today's extensive list of stuff to do.

Those of you getting up at 4:30/5 What time do you all go to bed?!

HoneyzAiy · 16/06/2021 06:45

My alarms usually set for 6.45am, so not mega early. If I happen to get up before that, like today, I get a cup of coffee and chill on the sofa reading mumsnet before the dc get up. If it’s very hot, I’ll take the dogs for an early morning walk, come home and put a wash on and get the dc breakfast ready. Sometimes I just sit and enjoy the silence as once they’re up, that’s no longer an option!

I was asleep by 8:30 last night but I was knackered. I’m usually in bed around 10pm up about 5.
DinosApple · 16/06/2021 06:48

I've been awake since 5.30. I've got a load of washing on, and been sat in the garden with a cup of tea and a book since six. It's lovely.

I've got about 10 minutes before the chaos needs to start and I'm clinging on to them!

DinosApple · 16/06/2021 06:50

I'm usually in bed straight after the DC so between 9 and 10pm and wake any time after 5am. I love the bright mornings.

istheresomethingwrongwithme · 16/06/2021 06:53

I'm always up really early, either because one of the children wakes me or because my body clock is now trained to wake up at 4.30am even if they lie in.

I use the time to get a lot of my jobs done. Things like dishwasher, washing, admin, general sorting and tidying up. Then if I want to slack off a bit later in the day I do so because I feel like I'm already on top of stuff.

I drink lots of tea too!

Troez · 16/06/2021 06:54

Normally up around 4ish. Like to go for a run straight away, breakfast, a long bath and then an early start on work.

Willwebebuyingnumber11 · 16/06/2021 06:56

Workout, shower, coffee, Chuck the first load of the day in the washing machine then hang it out and get breakfast things ready for the DC.

HuntingoftheSnark · 16/06/2021 06:57

Up at 5.30, go to sleep at 9.30. Start work around 8 so I love this time. I do around 5k of steps in the kitchen (an idea a MNer gave me) while watching something everyone has raved about. This morning was episode 8 of I May Destroy You. Also coffee, catching up with emails etc.

BuddleiaBlooming · 16/06/2021 06:58

I go to bed when I'm tired- usually between 10 and midnight. Sometimes as early as 8 sometimes as late as 1. As long as I've had 4 hours sleep, I function quite well and then every few days will sleep for around 6 hours.

It doesn't seem to matter what time I go to bed, between 4.30 and 5.30 is my natural waking time but i always set an alarm for 6.30 just in case..!

DeciduousPerennial · 16/06/2021 06:58

News on, and just sit and enjoy minimum of an hour of total peace and being alone in the house.

Check emails, Facebook and the news then pop on here.

BuddleiaBlooming · 16/06/2021 06:59

I've always been the same since I was very small. I'm the only person I know who's awake before the children on Christmas Day 🤣

frumpety · 16/06/2021 07:01

Drink copious amounts of coffee, watch the news for 20 minutes, browse MN and quietly do chores so as not to wake the others.

ZooeyS · 16/06/2021 07:03

Go for a run or do some yoga usually

BarkingUpTheWrongRoseBush · 16/06/2021 07:08

I love the early morning on my own. I used to go for a walk or a run, now I have a cup of tea or two or three, preferably in the garden. I put a bench in the front garden where the sun hits I. The morning and listen to the birds. Give the cat a fuss as it’s his time before the dog wakes up.

Sometimes pop up to allotment, first one up there, open the gates, listen to the birds, watch the dew and the neighbourhood cats up to no good.

Listen to the birds. New garden I’m still planting out so do a bit of that, look for snails, water, gentle weeding.

Or if the weather is crap, I lie in bed.

I was thinner when I woke up and ran instead….

Love the early morning.

Hyppogriff · 16/06/2021 07:13

Quietly seethe that the little people have woken me up and dream of an extra 10 mins in bed !! If I ever manage it by choice to work or run I feel amazing after but I hate getting up early !!!!!!

BusyLizzie61 · 16/06/2021 07:18

I'm frequently awake from 3 or 4am. I make the packed lunches, clean the kitchen/load or unload the dishwasher, occasionall iron, most often, this is my time for TV and tea, to watch things I would like to watch, undisturbed! Or at this time of year, sit in the morning sun with my tea. Bliss.

PhilCornwall1 · 16/06/2021 07:20

I'm usually up by 3am, 3:30am at the latest. I have to get up to take painkillers, as by that time, they are well needed. I don't go back to bed.

I brew up a pot of coffee, crash on the settee and read the news, have a browse, if it's dusting day (every other day. Yes I'm sad!), I'll get that all done and then clean the kitchen. 6am it's make more coffee and take Mrs PC one in bed for 6:15.

Weekends are great when everyone stays in bed. I was painting by 5am last Saturday and had it all done by mid morning. Gave me the rest of the day to enjoy the weather.

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 16/06/2021 07:20

When ds was tiny I'd wash , dry and fold the laundry , with background of baby TV!

Nsky · 16/06/2021 08:05

Some folk ( think supermarket staff) have to start work at 4.30 am.
Just left a retail job where pre pandemic starting at 5.30am, left home at 4.40am.
On my days off or later starts my neighbours would wake me ( no kids, 1 bedroom terrace) at 8 am, I explained this was not ok, banging around, and I could return the favour at 4.30am, they seemed shocked.
Luckily the moved soon after

Re time to bed - I am usually asleep by 9.30. I go up about 8 and watch stuff on my iPad then listen to a relaxation thing on Calm.
