Sofology! Is it really that bad

idontevenknowanyonecalledblurb · 15/06/2021 18:07

Hi just looking for any opinions. After months of trying to get a free day I finally persuaded my husband to go sofa shopping! We decided on a corner and chair set from
Sofology but since coming home to order I've read nothing but bad reviews about them.

Does anyone have any experience of them? If they really are this bad can anyone recommend somewhere good to get a corner sofa?

Thanks!

I was only looking at Sofology yesterday. Can't comment but I'm interested in responses.

I got my corner sofa from there, no problems that I can remember. The only thing that did annoy me is that a couple of years later I decided I wanted the matching ottoman and ordered it to be collected in store. When the x amount of weeks had passed and I hadn't heard anything I rang the store and it turns out they'd had it for a week and didn't bother to tell me!

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 15/06/2021 18:15

Awful customer service if anything goes wrong. I can't do links, sorry, but if you Google 'Mumsnet hate my new expensive sofa' you'll find my saga.

Good need is we did eventually get a replacement, and I love it - one of my favourite purchases ever.

*Good news.

Ours has been very good. It's about 6.5 years old. There is a small crack in the leather on one seat. It's still very comfortable, hasn't sagged and the electric recliners are fine

idontevenknowanyonecalledblurb · 15/06/2021 18:19

Oh this is fairly positive so far- the internet reviews are dreadful! I even found a Facebook page called something like we hate sofology!

I've just had one from there. Nice sofa, good delivery, no issues.

minty133 · 15/06/2021 18:25

Have you looked at TrustPilot.com?

xsjrx · 15/06/2021 18:27

Bought a leather armchair from them, no issues.

WhiteFeministWarMachine · 15/06/2021 18:28

My sofa is good but the delivery was a joke.

GreenGordon · 15/06/2021 18:41

Ordered top of the range leather recliner for my husband when he was very ill. Sadly, he died just before they messaged to say it was ready. They could not have been kinder, or more solicitous.

Bordernotboarder · 15/06/2021 18:44

We have sofas from there and they are lovely - the leather has really stayed looking as new as when we bought them and no sagging. We didn’t have a problem with delivery.

Furryscoob · 15/06/2021 19:55

We have a sofa & chairs from them.
Their now 4 years old & saggy, creaky & the arm cushions are completely out of shape. I’ve plumped it up as much as possible but it’s had it. My brother bought a sofa just before us from DFS & it still looks like new.

They're the same company, they should make them of similar quality.

Haven't ordered from there but have heard bad reviews about the customer service.

2gd2btrue · 15/06/2021 20:03

I got my sofas from there in December, we ordered in July. Sofas are fine, but we have obviously had them less then a year. A cushion cover ripped at the seams within days but they did send us another one (6 week wait though). Don't bother with the cleaning kit, it took months to be delivered and is rubbish. Customer service is the worst I have ever experienced, but the delivery guys were good. They ask you to review them after you buy your sofa but before you receive it, which I think is a bit cheeky. Their Twitter page is full of bad reviews (including my own). Personally I wouldn't recommend them but I have heard horror stories from lots of sofa shops, so I think sometimes it's just bad luck.

2gd2btrue · 15/06/2021 20:04

Also DFS is the same company as sofology.

MaMelon · 15/06/2021 20:08

We’ve had 2 lots of sofas from them - no problems whatsoever with either. I’m glad I didn’t know about that Facebook page before we bought them!

Mooloolabababy · 15/06/2021 20:24

No op, don't do it!!!!!!!
We ordered 2 sofas in august last year, due for delivery in November, delivery date came and the driver called me to say there was only 1 sofa being delivered and not 2. I told them not to deliver as wasn't happy to accept one without the other. Called customer services (30 mins before the call was answered) was told they didn't know why and would get back to me, they didn't so I had to call the next day (again, 30 mins before someone answered) told me it was damaged and they'd let me know if it could be repaired and what the new time scale was and that they'd call me back, they didn't so had to call again (guess what? Yep, 30 mins before the call was answered again) was then told sofa was too damaged and would have to be made again and that I'd have to wait 17 weeks for it!!! I asked why I had to go to the back of the line again to wait and they said that the people who had ordered for Christmas delivery now had priority. I cancelled the whole order and vowed never to darken their doors again!!!

Mooloolabababy · 15/06/2021 20:27

We have just bought sofas from dfs though (didn't realise they were part of the same company at the time!) went in on the Saturday, saw 2 ex display sofas we liked (pretty much half price) and got them delivered on the following Friday!

RealisticSketch · 15/06/2021 20:28

Sofology are great! My sofa I bought about 6/7 years ago still looks like new, the customer service was great (I spent so long looking round at various sofa shops I got a parking ticket from the private firm who operate the car park of the retail estate they are in and they had it written off for me). The delivery team were fab, getting it in through a slightly awkward access. The staff aren't on commission so the hard sell isn't so bad, I found them brilliant from start to finish.

UncomfortableSilence · 15/06/2021 20:33

Got our two leather sofas from there a couple of years ago, no complaints, lovely quality, delivered on time, nice delivery staff.

It's like everything, people will post the complaints and moans online but you don't read about every satisfied customer.

RealisticSketch · 15/06/2021 20:34

I think the cushion material probably makes a difference if you go for the softer stuff it isn't going to last as long. I quite like a firm but comfy seat so went for firmer studying it has held up really well, both the covering fabric and stuffing and they've had a lot of punishment.
They're such a big company there are bound to be bad reviews, annoyed people always speak up more than happy ones. Doesn't mean they are worse than anyone else.

fantastaballs · 15/06/2021 20:36

I bought a fabric Chesterfield style 3 and 2 five years ago. Out throws on it right away as I've got tee we I little dogs. Teen days after getting it I Went away for a week. Came back and it just looked awful a week later. Buttons coming loose, the weave of the fabric coming loose and almost undone. Turned it it was stitched into diamonds instead of traditionally plated and as a pretty handy seamstress I knew the problem was the loose fabric weave/ low thread count of the fabric. There is ax reason Chesterfield sofas are made from velvet or leather. I called up, calmly explained every point. Reiterated that I wasn't happy with the fabric quality. They agreed to replace it with a leather one within a month. I paid the difference and then they dropped off the new one, and collected the old. Can't really complain at that.

Thanks everyone this is really useful

Following another similar thread I went and read some of the FB groups, a point that often came up was about the firmness. The display sofas usually have the premium stuffing / insides but the basic order is often for a lesser quality, you have to pay extra to upgrade.

It may have been DFS but I guess something to still be aware of.
