Wallah! It's the first time I've seen voilà written this way. But when I think about it, it seems like a really obvious thing to do so I wonder how common it is.
Is it a "thing" that I've just missed before now?

Jaymar

YY...that drives me nuts!

MakeMineAdoubleChocolate · 14/06/2021 21:26

I could give a rats ass
I could care less.
I haven't got anything to loose.

Eh!

BobbidyBob · 14/06/2021 21:27

@Faranth

DF always called hors d'oeuvres 'horse's doofers' when we were kids, to make us laugh. I really have to pay attention to not say that by accident!
@Faranth my Dad still calls them “horse divorce” and it makes me laugh each time!
BobbidyBob · 14/06/2021 21:29

I see a lot of “rediculous” from Facebook friends.

Saz12 · 14/06/2021 21:29

Kekkle, bwz (for bus), ‘ospikel (for hospital), etc etc are an accent rather than an error, though, same as YO-gurt, “haitch” (for saying the letter “H”) are. Or, Barth for bath...

roobicoobi · 14/06/2021 21:30

I'm probably going to upset my fellow Scots here but....

Anyone who pronounces the letter J(ay) as J(eye)

Sorry, the letter is Jay.

HDDD · 14/06/2021 21:30

"at her beckon call"

Oh Haitch gets me too.

I think it comes from the letter sound being 'huh' but yes, the sound is 'huh', the name is 'aitch' Grin

@MrsReeves

Saw this ages ago. Bon apetit
🤣🤣🤣
BanditoShipman · 14/06/2021 21:33

@Puffalicious

I had a lively debate some years ago that I was a real card shark! I thought they were ridiculous that they insisted it was card sharp. Shark is so much more relevant (ie destroying your opponent). I was Blush when soon after I was proved incorrect!

I also thought, when younger, it was self-depreciating humour because I was 'depreciating ' myself!

I thought it was card shark???
WilsonMilson · 14/06/2021 21:34

Read something today online that made me weep for humanity.
Someone was bemoaning her ‘saw’ thumb. Took me a minute to work out that she meant ‘sore’. Hmm

stackemhigh · 14/06/2021 21:35

@HDDD

"at her beckon call"
That makes sense at least (to beckon someone).
TheTuesdayPringle · 14/06/2021 21:36

Card shark is correct

HildaOgdensLipstick · 14/06/2021 21:37

A lovely Hessy and back rug was advertised on my local FB page last week!

Cadent · 14/06/2021 21:38

@TheTuesdayPringle

Card shark is correct
According to Wiki it’s card sharp. I never knew that.
BanditoShipman · 14/06/2021 21:38
@JudgeJ yes she meant what she said but the saying is ‘ As dead as door nails.’ Why would a dormouse be dead?
That is the correct phrase though??

BlackeyedSusan · 14/06/2021 21:38

@CanICelebrate glad you asked that. And thanks to.....

I just checked that online as I didn't believe that cars shark was incorrect - it's card sharp or card shark, phew!

I've always said "as dead as a dodo"

TheOrigRights · 14/06/2021 21:41

@Ruthietuthie

Last week there was a Mumsnet thread where someone was described as being rather "non-shallot." The thread rather sad in its content, and probably not the place for a grammar jump-on but it made me laugh. It will be non-shallot for ever from now on.
I spotted that, too, but as you say would not have been in the spirit of the thread to make fun of it.

I have however told a few people in RL.

tigertreats · 14/06/2021 21:41

@custardbear

I have two that spring to mind

Frogs born - frogspawn

Expresso- espresso

This is brilliant . It should be called frogs born ! From now on that's what I'm saying !
Crankley · 14/06/2021 21:42

I knew someone for a while and wasn't aware she was semi-literate until we communicated online. Stuff like she was getting the puppy spade and having a sandwitch. I was really shocked.

Benjispruce3 · 14/06/2021 21:43

Dead as doornails is the original expression.
I thought card shark was correct?

Anewchapter · 14/06/2021 21:43

I recently saw a Whilborough for sale.

BanditoShipman · 14/06/2021 21:44

Yes it can be either card shark or card sharp
