Does anyone else just love the seaside?

Me & DH are taking the kids to a holiday park by the seaside for a few days this week. Last time we went was when DD was a small baby and I am so looking forward to it! I love the drive over, the smell as soon as you get near of the sea and chips and hot fresh waffles or doughnuts! Then walking along and seeing all the stalls with the fresh sea food. The little shops of souvenirs and toys. I think I could live by the coast, we are lucky to be blessed with some beautiful seaside towns in Yorkshire. DH thinks I am weird, but does anyone else? Anyone want to share their favouritw things or things to do with little children at the seaside?

I love the seaside, I've always lived near the sea and could never not!
I think we've got some really great seaside towns and stunning coastline in this country.

ThePlantsitter · 14/06/2021 08:00

Me! I love it for all the reasons you said, and rockpools and sandcastles and I love it out of season too when it has a slight melancholic air and the sea is wild.

LongIslandIcedT · 14/06/2021 08:02

I like the smell of the seaside and the holiday feel of a beach with the little shops and restaurants nearby. I do hate pebble beaches, I won't even step on them and I'm not even a great fan of sand.

RubyFowler · 14/06/2021 08:02

An out of season seaside town has a charm of its own.

LadyCatStark · 14/06/2021 08:02

It’s not really the same when you live there! Although we do love paddleboarding on the sea and walking our dog along the beach.

Mmmmdanone · 14/06/2021 08:06

Yes! When I was a child we lived far from any coast and I still remember the excitement of seeing the sea come into view when we drove to a holiday destination.

BrownEyedGirl80 · 14/06/2021 08:06

Me! We've been to Mablethorpe for the last 3 Saturdays

Brandaris · 14/06/2021 08:08

Me too! I live within walking distance from a little beach and I feel so so lucky every time I’m there.

With DC we like making sandcastles with anything we have- it’s a good excuse for a cup of tea to then use the cup as a bucket.
Searching for sea glass and shells.
Rockpooling.
Paddling.
Ice cream.

But please don’t go crabbing, it’s so cruel as crabs are very territorial! It seems to be the only time playing with the lives of animals/hunting for pleasure seems to be acceptable.

ListenLinda · 14/06/2021 08:09

Lemon topped ice creams! I could eat my weight in them.

Do you know what, I even love the sound of the seagulls.
I won’t share my chips though....

Yes... We are lucky and live in a NE coastal area. There are four nice beaches near us and if we travel 15/20 minutes there are a few more. So we tend to alternate.

We go in any season for a walk out, throw stones, collect shells, rock pooling, play in the sea.

Youngest can spend hours literally pottering about down the beach.

I love the calmness of the waves, sea air, smell

Oh I disagree! I've lived in seaside towns all my life and I feel the same, even at high season. I feel so lucky to live in the place all these people have come to visit!
HannaHat · 14/06/2021 08:12

I do, and I also love the sound of seagulls.

RubyFowler · 14/06/2021 08:13

@BakewellGin1 I live in NE too.

LemonRoses · 14/06/2021 08:14

I grew up near the sea and love it still. I’m less keen on the busy, funfair and doughnut type of place (but still like the buzz they generate) and prefer quiet coves that have little there besides sea and sand.

autumnboys · 14/06/2021 08:15

Yes, me. I grew up in a seaside town and it gives me great pleasure that my children have grown up playing on the same beaches that I did. Definitely my happy place.

Ours is a very genteel beach, no kiosks, although there is a pier within walking distance of our beach hut, so it’s a cheap day out and one that all the children seem to enjoy, even my teens.

DinosaurDiana · 14/06/2021 08:16

I grew up by the sea, with a funfair etc, but hardly went !

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 14/06/2021 08:20

I love the sea. Grew up on the north east coast (live nowhere near it, or any coast, now), and I'm always at my happiest by the sea. I feel myself relaxing the moment I hear it.

My in laws have a holiday cottage on the Sussex coast which we sometimes get to borrow, and it's my favourite place to be. We have it for a week over the summer and I'm so excited.

For now DH and I still need to be near London for work, but I've told him we're retiring to the coast.

cricketmum84 · 14/06/2021 08:27

Another Yorkshire lass here who adores the seaside. All of my worries and stress literally melt away as soon as I spot the sea on the horizon. We have the most beautiful coastline here in yorkshire.

I haven't been for so long and I miss it so much!

Bags of 2ps for the amusements, the vinegar on a cone of chips, the ice cream parlour on Scarborough seafront that does the banana twist ice creams, the sound of the seagulls, spotting a random seal head pop up while you are walking along the front, the donkeys 🥰 love it all!!

beckyCarlos · 14/06/2021 08:43

I love the seaside! There's just something about it... it immediately makes me feel lighter and happier, even when its raining or stormy. And I'm a sucker for the 2p machines 🤣

christdoinghisunspecifiedhobby · 14/06/2021 08:50

Yes! I grew up in a seaside town (not a particularly touristy one) and miss it terribly now I live inland. I love the seaside, the smell of the sea and the fish and chips and all the rest, the view, looking at boats, just all of it really. I'm moving back to the seaside asap.

Not true! I moved to the coast after many years in the Midlands and am literally delighted by the sea every single day. Been here 18 years now and the novelty never wears off. There is a choice of nice beaches and cliff walks here and I don't ever plan to move away! 🏖️
languagelover96 · 14/06/2021 09:37

I love brighton pier

newnortherner111 · 14/06/2021 10:33

Whilst I would not wish to live by the coast, I enjoy visiting and walking along beaches. Air seems fresher.

Flambola · 14/06/2021 10:33

I love it too. I’m on a peninsula so have access to lots of nice beaches, I don’t think I’d cope well living further inland.
