Why has my hayfever gone?!

Last year I was taking 2 antihistamines a day, and I remember one lockdown walk my eyes and nose were streaming so badly I had to go home as I'd forgotten my tissues. This year I've been fine apart from the odd sneeze, no antihistamines. I've seen people complaining how high the pollen is this year too. Can it just go?!

I’ve had a few years where it’s not been as bad or not even noticeable. Then this year it’s came back with a vengeance, which is typical as I’m pregnant so can’t take the otc antihistamines.

MustardRose · 13/06/2021 18:42

Mine's almost non-existent at the moment.

Very weird.

Bargebill19 · 13/06/2021 18:48

Mine gone - but Dh has comeback. I do like to share!

Maybe the farmers are growing different crops this year. I believe they alternate them

bookgirl1982 · 13/06/2021 18:54

Mine was always better when I was pregnant...

princesslarmadrama · 13/06/2021 18:56

I've had a couple of bad days this year and that's it so far. Normally I'm streaming and have swollen eyes from March until September!

Faranth · 13/06/2021 18:57

Some years I get it and some years I don't. No pattern that I can see. This year I'm ok so far...

The years that I do get it I have to do a trial and error to see what antihistamines will work, no guarantee that the one that worked last year will work this year.

Interesting! And glad some of you are getting a break too!

It's quite normal for allergies to come and go as your immune system changes. I had bad hayfever from 2010-2014 but not before or after

LEMtheoriginal · 13/06/2021 19:09

One year my hayfever completely didn't happen - i was pregnant!

BiscoffAddict · 13/06/2021 19:12

I have years where it’s really bad, and years where I hardly get it at all.

user1493494961 · 13/06/2021 19:12

Mine's also been practically non-existent this year and I've been a sufferer for over 40 years, (maybe it's due to the vaccine).

Silkiecats · 13/06/2021 19:26

Mine was really bad and asthma with it earlier this year but gone since the AZ vaccine. Though had night sweats and aches and pains since it so just appear to have swapped one issue for another but yes its weird.

That's funny, it did cross my mind that I've been fine since the vaccine, but didn't want to sound nuts Grin

My sister has had bad hay-fever since she was about 9, this year she said she's hardly had it! I on the other hand have had it worse then normal!

Knittingnanny · 13/06/2021 20:39

My hay fever is completely random! It started summer 1975 when I was 18. I was really ill and on one occasion had to have emergency jab of adrenaline(?) since then I’ve had years of suffering badly from early May to the end of June. Some years taking every medication going. It was probably worse during my 20’s 30’ and 40’s. Last 20 years have been completely random, it’s either full on for 2 months and lying indoors with wet flannels on my face in the worst hours or not one single symptom at all. No hay fever at all for last 4 years.
Thought I’d totally escaped it this year only to suffer mild symptoms yesterday and today.
Maybe it’s linked to hormones?
Only one son and one grandson seem to be sufferers. Likewise neither parent or sister ever suffered.
So very random.

ineedaholidaynow · 13/06/2021 20:41

Mine went when I was pregnant too!

Horrendous this year and have had both of my AZ jabs

GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 13/06/2021 20:46

I have experienced the opposite. This is the first year I have gave in and bought antihistamines.

Sod's law says yours will probably come back with a vengeance now you have posted this thread. :o

user1498572889 · 13/06/2021 20:57

I have not had hay fever this year. Also I have had a couple of gnat bites and they have not swollen up or got infected. I normally have to have steroids when I get bitten.

Well that ruins the theory about vaccines!

I'm definitely not pregnant though so back to square one Grin

Exactly the same!! I'm a serious hay fever sufferer...I can't remember a single year since I was a teenager (I'm 57!) where I haven't been a red-eyed, sneezing MESS from March onwards...sometimes until as late as October! This year, I've had a couple of bad days in April but since then, barely a sniffle 😌

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 13/06/2021 21:04

Mine was horrendous about 6 weeks ago. It's gone again now

BashfulClam · 14/06/2021 00:46

Mine has been much milder….I hope it continues, 35 years of summer hell!

CIMA · 14/06/2021 07:31

Me too, mine only started 3-4 years ago with a vengeance, so I'm over the moon that it can ease some years, I thought I'd have it every year.

Mine is much better too this year. I thought I had hit on the right combination of medication at last! Seems I am probably wasting my money and would be fine either way! My dad is normally really annoyingly (to everyone else) suffering but also ok this year
