Why has my hayfever gone?!

Last year I was taking 2 antihistamines a day, and I remember one lockdown walk my eyes and nose were streaming so badly I had to go home as I'd forgotten my tissues. This year I've been fine apart from the odd sneeze, no antihistamines. I've seen people complaining how high the pollen is this year too. Can it just go?!

Mine is usually horrific, prescription medication barely controls it, but this year hardly anything. I've had long covid and the vaccine and I wonder if its related. My immune system is so wrung out it this year it doesnt have space for pesky old hayfever anymore!

I’m wondering if hormonal changes has anything to do with it? For years I had asthma and a constant chesty cough then one year it just went and hasn’t returned. Looking back it was a problem before menopause. Since I’ve been properly menopausal not a cough or a wheeze and my inhalers are in the first aid box unused.

I suffered very severely with hayfever from the age of 14-22. It completely disappeared the next year when I met my husband and he got hayfever when he’d never had it before. 10 years on he still has it and blames me for giving it to him Hmm

I have a friend who insists it's the vaccine that has stopped her hay fever this year.

This seems very unfair
Mine is terrible this year just like every year Sad
I've had it every year since I was a kid and it ruins my summer every time
It can be just about bearable with double dose antihistamines and steroid nasal spray but I would pay a lot of money if anyone had a permanent cure.

Pregnancy and few months afterwards is the best time for avoiding hay-fever.

Shame our family is now complete, because this year it feels like it came back with vengeance.

A friend swears he cured his hayfever by getting sloshed on Merrydown cider. That was about 1990. He's never suffered since.

Mine only started about 4 years ago too. Don't think it's mask wearing for me , I only wear it in the shop and the 5 min school drop off/pick up.

I actually haven't had a problem with it since I had my 2nd jab but hadnt thiught about that.

I've been fine this year too up until the last couple of days!

I think wearing a mask helps. I've got a friend who has started wearing a mask when gardening and they said it's life changing

Mine is much better too this year. I thought I had hit on the right combination of medication at last! Seems I am probably wasting my money and would be fine either way! My dad is normally really annoyingly (to everyone else) suffering but also ok this year

Me too, mine only started 3-4 years ago with a vengeance, so I'm over the moon that it can ease some years, I thought I'd have it every year.

Mine has been much milder….I hope it continues, 35 years of summer hell!

Exactly the same!! I'm a serious hay fever sufferer...I can't remember a single year since I was a teenager (I'm 57!) where I haven't been a red-eyed, sneezing MESS from March onwards...sometimes until as late as October! This year, I've had a couple of bad days in April but since then, barely a sniffle 😌

@ineedaholidaynow

Mine went when I was pregnant too!

Horrendous this year and have had both of my AZ jabs

Well that ruins the theory about vaccines!

I'm definitely not pregnant though so back to square one Grin

I have not had hay fever this year. Also I have had a couple of gnat bites and they have not swollen up or got infected. I normally have to have steroids when I get bitten.

I have experienced the opposite. This is the first year I have gave in and bought antihistamines.

Sod's law says yours will probably come back with a vengeance now you have posted this thread. :o

My hay fever is completely random! It started summer 1975 when I was 18. I was really ill and on one occasion had to have emergency jab of adrenaline(?) since then I’ve had years of suffering badly from early May to the end of June. Some years taking every medication going. It was probably worse during my 20’s 30’ and 40’s. Last 20 years have been completely random, it’s either full on for 2 months and lying indoors with wet flannels on my face in the worst hours or not one single symptom at all. No hay fever at all for last 4 years.
Thought I’d totally escaped it this year only to suffer mild symptoms yesterday and today.
Maybe it’s linked to hormones?
Only one son and one grandson seem to be sufferers. Likewise neither parent or sister ever suffered.
So very random.

My sister has had bad hay-fever since she was about 9, this year she said she's hardly had it! I on the other hand have had it worse then normal!

@Silkiecats

Mine was really bad and asthma with it earlier this year but gone since the AZ vaccine. Though had night sweats and aches and pains since it so just appear to have swapped one issue for another but yes its weird.

That's funny, it did cross my mind that I've been fine since the vaccine, but didn't want to sound nuts Grin

Mine's also been practically non-existent this year and I've been a sufferer for over 40 years, (maybe it's due to the vaccine).

Report
BiscoffAddict · 13/06/2021 19:12

I have years where it’s really bad, and years where I hardly get it at all.
