The seeds when eating a pomegranate? Wink

I grabbed one at the supermarket and now I’m trying to eat the damned thing. There are seeds & skin & mess everywhere. How am I actually supposed to eat this thing?

Cut the skin with a sharp knife, like an orange. I do an equator and then quarter the fruit. Break the fruit into chunks carefully, or you’ll squirt juice everywhere and it dyes beautifully.
The seeds are in sections, you eat them whole, but peel off the whitish, papery skin that covers the section.
It’s a knack, practice. 😁

Any lumps are just asking to be spat out..

Sumerisicumenin · 11/06/2021 17:41

But a pomegranate is entirely made up of little lumps.
Maybe you need a mango instead.

BeachWaves2 · 11/06/2021 17:42

You got me 😂 😂 😂

RichardMarxisinnocent · 11/06/2021 17:46

Neither, I eat them, because that's the whole point of a pomegranate. I agree with the pp's suggestion of cutting into smallish sections and then biting the seeds out. Or you could cut them out into a bowl and eat them from there.

girlsallowed21 · 11/06/2021 17:47

Oh you knew what you were doing there OP 😝🤣🤣

ZealAndArdour · 11/06/2021 17:48

The seeds are the bit you eat in a pomegranate.

BeachWaves2 · 11/06/2021 17:49

Swallow the lot 😋

RickJames · 11/06/2021 17:54

Cut it into quarters and then bend the quarters back. The fruit should pop off the skin in sections and any bits of thin skin can be picked off.

Do not wear light coloured clothing during preparing or consuming the pomegranate. They are delicious, the seeds are part of the fruit and a great source of fibre.

DM bought me and DB a pomegranate when we were about ten years old. Cut it in half, gave us half each like a grapefruit ... We pebble-dashed the wall with purple splashes Grin

Shinesun14 · 11/06/2021 18:01

I used to eat the seeds with one of my nans sewing pins when I was young. Hours of entertainment Grin

Curious2021 · 11/06/2021 18:04

Wtf do you eat if you don’t eat the seeds?

Navilana · 11/06/2021 18:05

Slice pomegranate in half, take one half in your hand, place above a bowl, grab a wooden spoon and whack the pomegranate Smile. Enjoy, lovely fruit!

AgeLikeWine · 11/06/2021 18:06

Thanks for the tips!

OK, I’m going for it. I’m popping the little pods against the roof of my mouth to release the yummy juice then swallowing all the little seeds.

Hopefully they won’t sting on the way out! Grin

Dohrehmee · 11/06/2021 18:08

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 11/06/2021 18:09

nice click bait OP 🤣 and you know it.
well done

DragonDoor · 11/06/2021 18:15

Cut into quarters and turn inside out. Shake over a bowl then pull out any remaining seeds. Chew and swallow.

PineappleSun · 11/06/2021 18:29

Peel them in water, no splashes and they all sink to the bottom for easy collection. I love a pomegranate and keep all the seeds in the fridge for chucking in with salads, cous cous, tacos, on cakes, anything!

Oh memories of my nana giving me a pomegranate with a toothpick to eat the seeds out with . Would keep us occupied for a while!

Haven’t had one in years!

RobertSmithsLipstick · 23/12/2021 06:02

That yellow pith is really bitter, though.
It's good to get every seed out and de-pithed, then scoff the seeds.

YourenutsmiLord · 23/12/2021 06:06

I was in Morocco in the 90s and bought one from a stall - it was much smaller and 99% seeds and 1% pink flesh.
I imagine that is how they started out until the cultivators got to grips, now we have these huge juicy ones with lots of flesh and not much pith.

Cas112 · 23/12/2021 06:19

I've only ever eaten the seed out of a pomegranate, I am confused now 😂😂

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 23/12/2021 06:43

I gobble the lot Grin
