Should skirts and dresses be phased out?

I mean, lots of fashions are now gone- periwigs and ruff collars for men, bustles and corsets for women. We all wear more practical clothes.
Has the skirt and dress had their day? Is there any practical reason why they should be preferred over trousers?

They're better than trousers for airing your guff on hot days.

Personally I find dresses far more comfortable and fit better than trousers due to my body shape.

No. I find them far more comfortable than trousers, to the point where I only own 2 pairs of trousers and very rarely wear them.

Dresses are considerably more comfortable and allow more freedom of movement for me (a fat person). Also, they are cooler in summer. They accommodate changes in body shape (childhood growth, pregnancy, premenstrual bloating, weight loss or gain) better than trousers. They don't leave you soaked to the knee if you walk in heavy rain.

I am a horrible barrel/apple shape, look like humpty dumpty in trousers, love dresses so no.
Who would be in charge of the phasing out?

I love dresses so much so I hope not. I'm always telling my dh one day men will go back to their Ancient Greek toga wearing days seeing as it's sooo much airier on a hot day

In schools (like in the link) then yes, maybe. Everywhere else then no.

Skirts sure but not dresses , I just find them so comfortable! Jeans can also do one , they really are a pain, never fit right, legs always a mile long and they just feel like I'm being constricted all day long.

Given much of the world wears wrapped skirts / dresses for both men and women, it's not exactly a phase we're going through. Look at saris, dhotis, sarongs, kilts, kenti, chola etc

Surely most clothing styles or fashion items fade out of fashion, and so people stop wearing them through CHOICE.They're not deliberately 'phased out' or banned.

As far as I can see, dresses are very much in at the moment, and I can't see them disappearing any time soon.

Well seeing that I have bought 3 dresses this week and have another two kn order from Silk Fred I don't think they've had their day.
Why dies everything have to be practical? My dresses are gorgeous and give me joy.

No. I hate wearing trousers/jeans, they're uncomfortable and unflattering. I haven't worn them for about 20 years.

I think there should never be a rule where girls/women must wear a skirt. I would make it illegal for school or workplace uniforms not to have a trouser option.

But if people choose to wear them then they will not die out, quite rightly.

But dresses are much more comfortable because if they're loose, there's no tightening at all at your waist like there is with trousers.

No! Not in schools either. My DD hates trousers and always has. She finds them really uncomfortable, won’t even wear jeans. She wears gym leggings but prefers skirts & dresses.
She would be so upset if she had to wear trousers for school. She wears skirt & knee socks.

Oh and my DD's choose dresses too, when they wore uniform dresses fitted better because they were skinny and school skirts and trousers were huge on the waist (or way too short)

Yes, I think a trouser ed uniform for all would be fine. With shorts options in primaries

I don't particularly support it, but wouldn't object either.

But I'd much rather the school turned it's attention to teaching the boys not to be creeps. Because there is nothing inherently right or wrong about skirt length, other that it being entry level misogyny.

If we're serious about Everyone's Invited and the need for change in schools, it needs to start young and with things such as this.

This is about school uniform (or, at least, I assume it is).

Skirt length has become too vexed for schools and also seems unfair. The meaning of ‘uniform’ is in the name and boys and girls having identical uniforms (bar tailoring for different shapes) seems sensible to me.

Adults should wear anything they like, within the confines of ‘professional wear’ which will vary by job and industry.
