It's not my immediate neighbours, but someone in my vicinity is mowing their lawn. Right now. I don't get it. why???

Insomnia?
OCD?
Some kind of inspection tomorrrow?
It makes me feel a bit better for having had my tumble drier on though
kid on camp tomorrow, I fucked up spectacularly with the packing

Soubriquet · 11/06/2021 02:10

I suppose it’s now cool enough that they feel they can do it but it’s not on

Not when most people are sleeping

Cupidity · 11/06/2021 02:12

Pshtttt, a tumble drier is nothing compared to this lawn mower. Good luck with the packing.

Dh is blissfully asleep. So are the dc. But it's hot, and the windows are open and I can HEAR it and I'm now wide awake.

Agoraphic, sun allergy, working all daylight hours, insomnia, eccentricity, social isolation leading to alteration of daily rythyms? I could imagine myself doing this especially now it's so warm. I watered some plants quite lat last night. I have turned nocturnal and only feel energised after midnight so could easily start cleaning and tidying. I have done washing and hung out in the dark before. You said not really close neighbours at the moment but if they are close enough to disturb you it is inconsiderate. Maybe they just love the smell of new cut grass with the dew on it.

DioneTheDiabolist · 11/06/2021 02:16

Emotional turmoil.

MrsFrTedCrilly · 11/06/2021 02:16

I’m reckon they are just a selfish git who’s inconsiderate of neighbouring properties Hmm

Cupidity · 11/06/2021 02:16

It has stopped. Phew.

timeisnotaline · 11/06/2021 02:22

I kind of feel for them- it’s not annoying 7am, it’s so middle of the night nuts they obviously need help be it stressed or other issues!!!

cateycloggs · 11/06/2021 02:23

AAh that's a pity, could we expand the thread to what we non-normal night owls do do in the middle of the night? I have just watched a programme on the English Perpindicular style in cathedral building so I am ready for my exam now.

Tlollj · 11/06/2021 02:25

I dunno but I’ve got a prick on a motor bike here 🤬

80Days · 11/06/2021 02:26

Mowing the lawn at 2am is really antisocial and inconsiderate.

Cupidity · 11/06/2021 02:32

@Tlollj I feel for you. Hope he drives away soon.

@cateycloggs good luck in your exam tomorrow. Now get some sleep so you'll be are fresh and awake for it.

Because they are a selfish prick.

alexdgr8 · 11/06/2021 02:41

could it be cognitive impairment; getting time of day re type of tasks confused.
such people sometimes get dressed in middle of night and head out, then wonder why no one is about, shops shut etc.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 11/06/2021 02:41

no acceptable reason.
I wouldn't bother trying to excuse this behaviour. it's abominable.

My initial reaction was 🤣 though

@cateycloggs

I've been standing in my kitchen, scrolling on MN for the last 2 hours.
I desperately need a shower and sort kitchen...someone please knock the bloody phone out of my hand and hose me down (not in the garden)!!

HeronLanyon · 11/06/2021 02:49

One hot summer us locals all spent so much time on the beach day in and day out - heatwave - that i was having to do gardening etc by security lights late evening etc. But remote from neighbours and not 2am ffs ! That must surely be some mental health/compulsion issue or perhaps an awful neighbour dispute pay-back/retaliation. Sure I’ve seen light hearted suggestions of doing just that in nightmare noisy neighbour threads.
Central London now and just had the nightly noisy restaurant delivery vans, slamming doors etc.

cateycloggs · 11/06/2021 02:52

Thank you, Cupidity - what a good medieval name! Not a real exam, thank God, I said now because I will have forgotten it all by tomorrow so would never pass an exam . They seem to be having a surfeit of cathedral building progs on BBC4 if your name indicates an interest.
It's unusually quiet here as I live on a busy road and often get nightime racers, police and ambulance sirens and drunken people shouting at each other, more so in warm weather.

DioneTheDiabolist · 11/06/2021 02:53

Oooh, I watched that too @cateycloggs.Grin

RickiTarr · 11/06/2021 02:56

I’ve given up on sleep and am folding washing on and off in between reading MN. If silent ride on lawn mowers were a thing, I’d mow the lawn for sure. It’s so muggy tonight and I can’t get comfortable.

RickiTarr · 11/06/2021 03:00

I wish they did make interesting revision programmes for BBC Four covering different degree subjects and professional exams.

They could make them documentary style so we could all join in
and learn obscure things, but actual students could listen to them as they slept as a top up. It would be like those 70s Open University programmes on BBC2 but much more watchable.

RickiTarr · 11/06/2021 03:03

I think I’ve gone sleep deprivation delirious now. Grin

Suzi888 · 11/06/2021 03:03

Would love to get up and actually do something rather than scrolling on here at 3am, it’s inconsiderate though, so I’ll carry on scrolling…

cateycloggs · 11/06/2021 03:03

Ha, ZingDramaQueenofSheba, another great name, I am such an abnormality to the world of mn, I don't even have a smart phone and don't know how all of you who read and message on it cope. It would drive me crazy, my eyesight is bad now so need an enlarged laptop screen and have the telly on for company. Just leave it and go to another room is my answer to eveything .My kitchen is a similar mess - used cat dishes and yesterday's washing up.

I am working myself up to committing another anathematic Mum's Net act and having a strip wash. At least according to another thread I glanced at. I don't have a shower, my bathroom light is out, I would be bathing in the dark. The cat may or may not come in to watch me. And what a weird phrase 'stripwash' is.
