It's not my immediate neighbours, but someone in my vicinity is mowing their lawn. Right now. I don't get it. why???

@HeronLanyon

Well there will be strip washes ahoy in any ‘Scottish army men in kilts’ film surely ? SWs do require the braces to be lowered and short sleeves tightly rolled up. In my excitation I can’t picture whether kilts have braces ??
No they are all decently dressed although Alec Guiness is a bit worse for wear this morning after a bit of aregimental rampage the night before which is going to lead to his disgrace and downfall. His coat is open but cannot see any braces. I have seen this film before but not in the glorious technicolour which show even his eyebrows glinting away.

Well he's washed and brushed up and is trying to face down his fellow officers in the mess but the tide has turned against him. He's doomed and he knows it.

I'm starting to think that we're all keeping each other up now Grin

I might go watch something. Congrats on (noisy) newborn apples.

Wish some sleep to Silkie and wabbit! X

Silkiecats · 11/06/2021 04:23

Wabbit loves the night Frownette last night he was shredding bits of paper and putting them all over the living room.

Before we got the baby gate as he started trying to jump on top of 16 year old Silkiecat he used to run up and down the stairs and go everywhere at night.

Birds are singing. I've just finished watching 90 day fiance and buying imaginary properties in the Isles of Scilly, well real properties but I am imagining buying them, save me a fortune.

TellmewhoIam · 11/06/2021 04:24

It just occurred to me that I'm wearing a long pale nightgown and flitting about past uncurtained windows 😆👻

Silkiecats · 11/06/2021 04:24

Congrats to apples, I remember being so happy when they slept through at 4 months. Hope it won't be long for you.

Mintjulia · 11/06/2021 04:25

My neighbour was haymaking at 2am on Tuesday. Not uncommon if rain is due, he does it at least twice a year, so I feel your pain.
(I also know that it's his cattle feed for next winter and I could move to a town if I don't like it, before anyone says.) Smile

@HeronLanyon

Giving up and getting up. I’m listening to a podcast about an upcoming astonishing climbing attempt on the west ridge of K2 - I feel my equivalent is tackling my own kitchen detritus, but quietly ! Waves at apple’s ds.
Why, oh why would they do such a thing? Did you see the recent pictures of what looked like a mile long queue of people starting their hack up Everest. Wrenching in the night owls theme, Im sure I've read or heard of night climbing and a man was on Pointless yesterday with the hobby of night running. It sounds much more romantic at night than grinding away in broad daylight. Like night swimming which I have never done, though I have hung out on Brighton beach till the small hours. Or In the Night Garden which I have never seen or read for fear of diillusionment.

Perfectly appropriate, you may be someones's ghostly tale that no one else believes but they swear blind really happened.

@applesarethebest

I'm sorry we're all having trouble sleeping but also happy I found this thread Smile

I have a 9 week old so I often look for threads like this as it feels like DS and I are the only ones awake sometimes. There's something kind of special about that but also omg go to sleep please my angel cake.

Congratulations, applesarethebest, I know parents are so often sleep deprived rather than voluntarily owling it but I hope you don't feel too bad. My neighbour's daughter gave birth to her fourth child 2 days ago, they don't live here but do spend a lot of time with her and in our shared garden so I expect i will see him soon. Strange thing is we are the same age but so different, she had 2 kids and now has 12 grandchildren and became a great-grandmother before 40, I have had none. Just as well whenI have never even normalised my own sleeping habits. It's not insomnia, I am not even trying to sleep till early morning. I do remeber being the same form a very young age, I just feel more myself in the night hours.
NeonDreams · 11/06/2021 05:03

They've probably had a few. I've done/do some really weird stuff when I've been drinking, especially if I'm in the mood to clean or do something while having a few. Like cleaning my oven at 11:30pm at night Blush or doing washing at midnight, etc.

I'm a nighthawk, always have been. When I was training for a marathon I stated my 20-mile training run at 11.30 pm.

In this city, you can't mow the lawn or use loud power equipment outside before 8.00 am or after 9.00 pm.

That's like the man I saw on a quiz programme. Does running at night have a special quality? do you go faster? Breathe easier?

Are you in Germany? I understand they have strict regulations on domestic activities.

cateycloggs · 11/06/2021 07:05

OOPs sorry , just saw you are CanadianJohn, CanadianJohn. apologies due to mind slippage, definitely time I got some sleep.

MargaretThursday · 11/06/2021 07:11

Row with wife?

rwalker · 11/06/2021 07:26

Are you sure it's a lawn mower and not something like police helicopter hovering nearby .

Deathraystare · 11/06/2021 08:36

Someone was up at 04.30 (I was up and awake and about to hit the shower). He was smashing things up and bellowing to someone (Eastern European) . Not sure if just 'talking' or being told to stfu and objecting to it! I thought it might be a builder doing work but by the time I was up and out (05.45) everything was quiet. Typical!

balzamico · 11/06/2021 11:23

My dad was out mowing or watering all hours before he went into the care home - dementia had robbed him of the ability to tell the time or care about who he might wake

Ylfa · 11/06/2021 11:39

Is it one of those automatic things like a roomba but for the grass?
