What's your resting heart rate?

Mine is 49. Am I dead?

Can you tell that I've got a jazzy new watch which measures all the things?

What I would conclude from this is either smart watches are hugely inaccurate or MN is full of fibbers. Or combination of the two!
Measuring from the wrist is not really regarded as accurate. Mine's an upper arm cuff.

My smart watch tallies with the other heart monitoring I’ve had over several periods. We had this on a previous thread where people didn’t believe all the LoW RHR posters were quoting. Maybe because it’s generally believed that a RHR under 60 is unusual or needs urgent attention, but neither is necessarily the case. A RHR below 60 is not uncommon, and it’s or necessarily a worry in and of itself if all else seems well. If it causes symptoms, that it is of concern. This is what my consultant told me.

These readings can't be right?

Mines 68. Age 49 fairly active. Been 110/68 for a while.

Remind me not to waste money on a Fitbit - sounds like bullshit to me

Nat6999 · 09/06/2021 03:20

Between 66 & 85 BPM according to my smart watch.

polkadotpixie · 09/06/2021 04:43
  1. Always has been, no idea why it's so high and my blood pressure tends to be a bit low, around 100/58. I'm 37, a normal weight but pretty unfit. It's been this high since I was a teenager though
KatharinaRosalie · 09/06/2021 06:26

My doc always compliments me on my heart rate so while the Garmin is not a medical device, it probably is still measuring it more or less ok

HopingForOurRainbowBaby · 09/06/2021 06:43

At the moment 66 but I'm laid in bed. In a couple of hours or so it'll shoot up to around 115-120

I'm outing myself as thick here but heart rate is your pulse, right? Not your blood pressure? I'm getting confused by references to BP

KatharinaRosalie · 09/06/2021 07:18

Oh and my resting heart rate used to be in mid 80's when I was a teenager and didn't do any exercise.

🤣

Thinking very similar. On the basis that the average is around 72, it seems unlikely unless it's all the Mn elite athletes that have swarmed to this thread.

Tuckedinbelly · 09/06/2021 08:09

Hm I dunno if people are lying. I count my resting heart rate as the rate it is when I'm asleep. Isn't that it? I've just woken up and right now it's 62. Overnight it was 54. I didn't get enough sleep or good quality enough if that matters.

My average HR for the whole week is 74, so includes not resting (generally living life, exercising).

blobby10 · 09/06/2021 09:06

I'm 52, cycle 100-150 miles a week and do weights 3 times a week, mine is mid-50s according to Garmin connect. Blood pressure usually around 118/70. Max heart rate gets to165-178 if I push myself cycling but it does drop back down quickly😁

Yes. Your heart rate is your pulse.

I took my pulse, manually, on waking and it was 67 bpm. After pottering about I sat for 5 mins and took it again. It was 72 bpm. That’s about right I think.

Why would anyone lie about their heart rate, especially to a bunch of anonymous randoms Confused Grin Grin
Loubilou09 · 09/06/2021 10:25

Between 38 and 47 depending on the time of day. I do still appear to be alive!

Loubilou09 · 09/06/2021 10:26

Highest recorded yesterday was 184, mid way through my workout!

KatharinaRosalie · 09/06/2021 10:27

Or, or - people who actually know their heart rates, meaning they might have a sports watch, meaning they might be more likely to do sports and have lower heart rates might be also more likely to open the thread and post here?

Unless you are also saying that all, let's say, step parenting threads are full of liars, as there are only step parents there and that's not possible.

MN has millions of users, it's not their average heart rate. But it's really not unbelievable that out of those millions, there might be a handful with heart rates in 40s-50s.

I have a blood pressure machine which also records heart rate and it's usually within the same range as my apple watch. I have had Garmins and Fit Bits before the Apple and they are about the same. So not sure if the smart watches are hugely inaccurate as you "state".

I am intrigued as to why you think people would be lying? What would the point of that be exactly? What do you think someone is gaining from lying? And why would you assume they were lying answering a simple question on bodily function that varies from person to person and has not real relevance to anything in particular? It's a fairly bizarre assumption to jump to.

Having a low heart rate isn't necessarily a great thing and I hate mine being so low as I have to burn more calories now. 10 years ago I had high blood pressure and was put on tablets which increased my resting heart rate and I whipped through daily calories like nobodies business, but I have noticed having a much lower heart rate that daily calorie expenditure is much much lower.

I exercise a LOT, my VO2 Max is 38 so I am fairly fit at the moment, that hasn't always been the case. Also I have stopped smoking and drinking in the last 6 years and that has reduced my heart rate quit considerably too.

This not your pulse, this is your blood pressure.

So no a Fitbit is not "bullshit" and sadly it's you that hasn't a clue what you are talking about.

The top number is your systolic blood pressure and the bottom number is your diastolic blood pressure. The average is 120/80 so your 110/68 is good, in fact the bottom number is a little on the low side.
