Can't control my temper when period is due

whatswrongwithmee · 06/06/2021 17:26

Me and OH usually have one big argument every month and it's usually a few days before my period is due. We can be happy for 3 and a half weeks straight then one big bust up.

I've just walked out and gone for a drive to give us time to cool down. I don't know how I can control it. It's like I know it coming but their is nothing I can do to stop it.

Has anyone else gone through anything like this? I've ruined my last day off by arguing with OH and upsetting everyone.

I have a DD & DS and it's not fair on them witnessing it and my poor neighbours!

I get the rage for about 48 hours prior to painters arriving.

sometimes I can control it, sometimes I can't. I always warn my family that it's tornado season and they'd better watch out!😁

tryingtocatchthewind · 06/06/2021 17:52

Yes me too, I don’t remember being this bad when I was young

DuckWithOneWing · 06/06/2021 18:00

I used to be like this, but now I take 1000mg starflower oil and I'm fine

Aquamarine1029 · 06/06/2021 18:00

You wouldn't kick off to just anyone would you? Not your neighbour? Would you start yelling at your boss? Of course you wouldn't. You can control it if you want to.

DuckWithOneWing · 06/06/2021 18:00

I mean I take it every day

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 06/06/2021 18:05

ummm, I would. and I have. it's crap but it happens
whatswrongwithmee · 06/06/2021 18:08

It's not that I "kick off" OH usually does or says something I don't like and instead of just ignoring him like I normally would. I end up going back and fourth with him telling him I am done and I want him our of my house. When my period arrives though I'm fine.

It is crappy op, it is.

My sister is like this, she is pure pure 100% evil and has squared up to 6ft builder who shouted at her in a car park.
She went fucking ballistic at him, so much so, he backed right off and skulked back to his car and was seen putting his locks on his doors.

She will scream, literally scream at anyone for something as simple as asking how she is. Unhinged. Unreasonable and completely out of control.
She physically shakes, veins pop out of her face, she spits while screaming and has facial twitches.

This is every single month and not for a day or two, for a few days.
I have no relationship with her because I won’t put up with it.
She has no friends, I’m sure her work colleagues hate her, she has lost jobs over the years because of it and I have cringed listening to her over the years.
To her, everyone she comes into contact with a arseholes and out to do nothing but annoy her.
At least you are self aware.

Have you thought about the pill to regulate hormones?

WTFisNext · 06/06/2021 18:16

I take the mini pill. No more bleeding like a character in Saw every month, no more feeling so evil I want to upset everyone, no more excruciating pain.

I wish I'd done it years ago.

Curatingchaos · 06/06/2021 18:20

Well what do you argue about?
There are some studies that suggest that women mask their true feelings most of the month, but in the week before a period their energy is so consumed with bodily symptoms that they feel unable to mask anything. Could it be this?

BanditoShipman · 06/06/2021 18:20

Mirena coil transformed my life - got rid of all pms

Mini pill does similar, also taking evening primrose tablets/starflower tablets makes a huge difference

Curatingchaos · 06/06/2021 18:23

Some women see a massive improvement in pms symptoms when they are single again. Not all, but certainly some. I find low carb and exercise helps too.

ByTheStarryNight · 06/06/2021 18:45

I found my PMT rage increased as I entered perimenopause. HRT has helped.

diddlediddledump · 06/06/2021 18:50

@Aquamarine1029 I can kick off to our neighbour, in traffic , boss and generally anyone I normally would tolerate their poor behaviour but 48 hours before af, my patience and my tolerance levels disappears.

Horsemad · 06/06/2021 18:52

Try Magnesium OK supplements, available OTC from the chemist. Well worth it.

whatisheupto · 06/06/2021 18:57

My mum was like this. She found HRT life changing.
During my teenage years I lived in fear of her rages and they were very upsetting. I walked on eggshells and spent my life trying to make sure there was nothing she could get angry about. It hasn't done me any good as I've continued this behaviour into adulthood. I avoid conflict and let people walk over me if it means I can keep them happy.

Treacletoots · 06/06/2021 19:05

As a PP said. Starflower or evening primrose oil. Helps to calm the rage, very much so.

Leftphalange · 06/06/2021 19:10

I am the exact same, you are not alone. I can tell my period is due because of how I feel and I have no patience with anyone. I am due to go to the doctors if I can get past the receptionist, and ask for some advice.

nimbuscloud · 06/06/2021 19:16

You need to find a way to sort this out. Telling him you’re done and to get out of the house is unacceptable. And think of the harm you are doing to your children.

Treezan82 · 06/06/2021 19:18

I'm like this OP and track my periods to try to ensure I am busy for the couple of days that fall a week before my period to try and distract myself. The only thing I have found that helps is taking vitamin B complex and vitamin D and also generally eating well, getting enough sleep, exercise, water etc.

IamChipmunk · 06/06/2021 19:19

Another shout for starflower and evening primrose oil capsules.
Make a massive difference. I get them in boots they are always 3 for 2.

Fooldoththinkheiswise · 06/06/2021 19:26

I read a book on this, and apparently it's nature's way of ensuring you stay with someone who can get you pregnant! I found this information helpful as it makes me stop and realise that DH isn't being a dick; it's just hormones!

Keepyourdistance000 · 06/06/2021 20:11

Have you had your blood pressure checked? I used to have temper issues just before my period and also had PMDD, but since being diagnosed and treated for hypertension my symptoms have greatly diminished.

gothicsprout · 06/06/2021 20:25

Another vote for Vitamin B complex and Evening primrose oil here, prevents me from either ripping someone’s head off or cracking a tooth from all the enraged teeth clenching Sad

murbblurb · 06/06/2021 21:49

Sounds really shit for your kids. You need medication of some sort.
