Forgot to cancel Tesco order...

Help! I 'hold' my Tesco delivery slot by adding two bottles of champagne to the basket and then go back and remove these and add a full shop the day before. Only this time I forgot. Can I just hand them back to the delivery driver for a refund? Am such an idiot!

When i book a slot with waitrose i just load up with one of my previous orders and leave it sitting there. Then i can go in at any time and adjust the order up until the cut off point - no need to put Champagne in unless you are ordering it!

I’ve forgotten to update my order before but fortunately I always just put in £40 worth of stuff that we normally buy like bananas, broccoli, bread etc or stuff that has a long shelf life that we will use eventually like oats, rice etc. Worse was when I booked a Tesco slot because I couldn’t get a sainsburys slot but then ended up with a Sainsburys one after all and forgot to cancel the Tesco one. Swimming in bananas!

DP held a slot once with 38 pints of milk. It turned up along with the rest of the shopping as he forgot to edit it! Luckily I have teens so we just bought more cereals.

I always wondered how on earth do people forget. You even get a text the day before to remind you.

Until my tesco van driver called and said I'm due at your address next and the only thing in your order is bananas 🤣. Do you want your bananas delivered with a £4 delivery charge or will I cancel it? I apologised and asked him to cancel, 2 mins later he showed up and gave me my bananas for free 😳

Must have forgotten to hit save when I did my full order.

I always do the previous order thing. Then at least you’ll get a useable shop even if it’s not exactly what you need.

Tesco do let you check out with under £40 though, it just adds a surcharge. That’s removed once you get to over £40 if you amend it later.

I’ve done this, my husband appreciated the 60£ bottle of whiskey 😂

ColaOlaLa · 06/06/2021 11:53

I did this once and the driver knocked I could already see the look on his face he knew it was a mistake (I hadn’t even remembered until they knocked on the door 🤦‍♀️) he told me I was the 3rd person who had done it that day 😬 so must happen a lot

ColaOlaLa · 06/06/2021 11:55

Tesco’s never text me about the slot 🤷‍♀️ I used to get them but then I changed my number a few years back I updated the website but now I never get texts from them!

Sunbelievable · 06/06/2021 12:02

@xyzandabc

Phone them and cancel the delivery, save wasting the driver's time. I did this once, got told off by the phone person and told never to do it again but at least it saved the driver a few miles.
They told you off? If not order from them again if customer services have that attitude.

OP, we've all done it 😁

I had a load of things this morning as I'd forgotten to change my order last night 🙄

They do still text, might be worth a phone call to customer service to see if they can sort it for you, I'd often forget my order without that text.

During the early days of lockdown, I was staying up past midnight trying to secure delivery slots for me, my mum and an elderly aunt. There was a knock on the door and there stood a Tesco delivery driver with two bags, containing yoghurt, a bottle of rum, some ice lollies and some crisps. He showed me the receipt and I realised I had forgotten to cancel that particular order! he offered to take it back, but I took it in anyway! Upon carefully looking at the receipt I saw that it was £1 shy of the minimum basket so I had to pay a £4 surcharge and £5 delivery. Oops! Lesson learned.

@Trumpton

You can hold your order with a low cost item by the way. I put a pack of toilet rolls in. I did have a phone call from Tesco once who asked if I really only wanted a bag of apples and nothing else delivered because they could cancel the order if not. Now that’s service!
I get these calls regularly am a bit stupid BlushBlush
