Forgot to cancel Tesco order...

Help! I 'hold' my Tesco delivery slot by adding two bottles of champagne to the basket and then go back and remove these and add a full shop the day before. Only this time I forgot. Can I just hand them back to the delivery driver for a refund? Am such an idiot!

Ring the store itself, the pickers will have been there hours already picking yours and lots of other orders.

RoseMartha · 06/06/2021 07:55

I always hold my order with things i think i will need to the £40, so if i dont edit it, i still will get some meals out of the items.
(Then throughout that week I edit as necessary).

BlazeMonsterMachine · 06/06/2021 07:56

I nearly got the world's most expensive bag of Haribo once....

Haribo: £2.50
Picking charge: £3
Delivery: £4

Haribo are nice, but not worth £9.50!!!

I phoned customer services and threw myself at their mercy. They kindly cancelled the order....

Hopeislost · 06/06/2021 07:56

With Tesco, if you go into your previous orders, you can add an entire previous order to basket with one click. That way, if you forget to update it, you get something that resembles a normal shop for you!

TedGlenn · 06/06/2021 08:08

I buy stamps. £40 worth, that way if I do forget to update/cancel, at least I won't also be charged delivery (I'm on delivery saver).

AfternoonToffee · 06/06/2021 09:09

Oh dear. Glad it was sorted though.

Adding a previous basket (not the champagne) seems an easier route though.

Sainsbury's is £25 to check out, £40 for delivery pass, I will sometimes add stamps if I am not quite there after adding my basic shop (bread, milk etc)

Try and contact them. They can hopefully stop the driver coming.

This happened once to me and the driver called and asked if I wanted a bag of lettuce or a refund. I said refund but they charged me delivery and I have a feeling they charged for the lettuce but I never followed it up.

Its actually happened a few times, leading me to only do a monthly online shop now and go to the supermarket for weekly topups! On the other occassions the driver has turned up e.g. with some chard and brocolli and I have accepted it Blush. I don't think it's fair to turn the driver away when they have done the drop.

weegiepower · 06/06/2021 09:17

I did this recently and I had only part done the order, I'd changed it to a different day but obviously never confirmed this, I was out when they tried to deliver.

They didn't call me or anything to see where I was which I'm not sure is normal practice or not but I saw the guy try to deliver on my ring camera. I honestly felt bad about it that I didn't call to ask for a refund and just left it but they refunded me within a few days anyway

Crunchymum · 06/06/2021 09:18

Sainsburys let you check out at any amount but they charge you a £7 delivery fee (I'm a delivery pass holder so don't pay for delivery)

I always make sure my basket is over £40 and has the things we need weekly. Takes less than 2 minutes as everything is saved in my favourites.

Had the opposite issue a while back. Ordered £40 of my favourite wine from Morrisons as it was on offer (plus another tenner worth of random bits) but forgot to update my substitution preference. A different wine turned up and I had to give it back to the delivery driver Blush

I always book the slot but it's my husband's job to do the order (as he does all the cooking). I always hold it with 40 bars of my fave chocolate that no one else in the house likes.

I'm so looking forward to the day when he forgets to update the order! Grin

AlmostSummer21 · 06/06/2021 09:22

@FasterthanBolt

All sorted. Had a 'phone call from the local big Tesco at 0730 (it was due between 8-9) asking if I wanted the order and was very lovely when I said I'd messed up Grin. I will do bread and milk next time.
That's great! tesco are good. I've made a couple of mistakes over the years, but there's never been a problem.

Once she was able to book me a slot for the next day, so I didn't have to go shopping!

shinynewapple21 · 06/06/2021 09:23

Well you're not the first MNer to have done this. But why would anyone hold their supermarket order with two bottles of champagne ? Is it part of your normal weekly shop? The quickest way to hold a delivery date is to copy over a previous order , then if you are stuck for time at least you are ordering stuff you would normally eat .

blahblahblah321 · 06/06/2021 09:31

I've done this! Held a slot with a bottle of champagne and a few other bits. Night before delivery decided not to bother with the shop and instead go into store myself so let the 11pm cut off time slide by.. woke in a panic the next morning with an email receipt!

Managed to contact the supermarket to cancel, but the order was already out in the truck. Hour later, the delivery driver called to say he could see he had a cancellation but not which order and he was guessing it was mine BlushGrin

passenger19 · 06/06/2021 09:36

Lol I did this with one bottle of champagne ...me and the delivery driver stood there looking at one bottle of champagne. ..I sent it back. since then I copy my order over. I also once did a delivery for when we got back from holiday. completely forget about it.,When they arrived we were at the neighbours having a drink. sainsbury just refunded..fair play to them

HappydaysArehere · 06/06/2021 09:45

I have a Sainsbury’s delivery and just hold a slot with favourites that don’t take long to tap in. Readjust the day before. Then most of the work is done and should there be an oversight I would get all the basics.

BradleyCooperwillbemine · 06/06/2021 09:47

Is anyone else having problems trying to use the Tesco site. For the last 2/3 weeks I haven't been able to place an order, or change my orders in any way. Rang them up and they put an order in for me, but I still can't amend it. Frustrating.

leiaskye · 06/06/2021 09:57

I just reserve my slot by adding in the whole of last weeks order. That way if I forget to change it, the worse thing is we have to have the same meals again.

It’s done with one click. That is on Sainsburys, don’t know if Tesco have the same option.

How do you do this ?

Please and thank you.

JenniferAllisonPhillipaSue · 06/06/2021 10:07

Tesco do have the facility to use a previous order - I do this, I just pick a random week in the past, "add all to basket" and then pick a slot and check out. As somebody else said, the worst that will happen if I forget to update is that we eat the same meals that week.

bluechameleon · 06/06/2021 10:40

I didn't know this about adding previous orders! That is genius, I'm going to do that. I always add the fruit as my holding items because that's the first category on the list. But adding the previous order is much better.

leiaskye · 06/06/2021 10:46

@finallyfluid

Just go into favourites, & there’s an option for orders. Previous orders will show you last weeks & there’s a button there to add to your basket.

FinallyFluid · 06/06/2021 11:00

Brilliant thank you.

rc22 · 06/06/2021 11:07

I use milk to hold my order. Forgot to put the rest of the order on the other week...most expensive milkman ever with the delivery and the under £40 charge. So embarrassing!!

FinallyFluid · 06/06/2021 11:15

Only on my app, not on the laptop how annoying.

But thanks for the heads up, I can do it from my phone.
