I have a theory that there are those of us who gets holes in our underwear and live with it and there are those of us who find holes and chuck them away and buy new immediately....

and I think this determines our personality and how we navigate life.

I am currently rotating through four sets of knickers all with massive holes where the elastic has come away from the fabric at the waistband. There will be a point where those pants are literally rags and I will rummage in the drawer and find replacements or buy new.

I have the money for new knickers. I have other knickers. And yet I keep washing these pants and putting them in the drawer and wearing them!!!

I’m a throw away girl. But I do have some very old M&S knickers that I love wearing because they’re so comfortable. When they become holey I will mourn their binning. New M&S knickers just don’t seem up to the job of covering my muff and bottom at the same time.

Have I missed where the OP has explained their theory or are we all just describing our underwear??

TheDuchessOfBeddington · 04/06/2021 16:17

@FourEyesGood

I’m with you, OP. I repair where I can, but am always reluctant to bin pants (maybe because they know too much? Grin).
Spat my tea out there!

No. I’m agog to know how “this determines our personality and how we navigate life.” The more batty the theory the better.

just the underwear descriptions for now🤣

But the holey ones are the most comfortable.
Why would I want to bin them?

YellowFish12 · 04/06/2021 16:59

Why bin them? No one sees my every-day pants

user1471538283 · 04/06/2021 17:24

Oh no. My life is far too short to wash knickers with holes in them or wear knickers with holes in. My DGM lived through the war and didnt have holes in her lingerie!

Nicolastuffedone · 04/06/2021 17:57

YellowFish12 No-one sees mine either, but I would know and I’m in the fortunate position where I can replace it as and when.

Grellbunt · 04/06/2021 18:05

Why bin them?

To quote Jennifer Aniston:

"Because you're worth it."

HotChocolateLover · 04/06/2021 18:10

I thought I was the only one with holey pants. In fact, we’re all like it in this house! DS had these dreadful PJ shorts until recently when I confiscated them and chucked them in the bin as they were so bad 😬

alloalloallo · 04/06/2021 19:19

Exactly. My favourite pants have saggy elastic, have been washed a billion times and are looking decidedly sorry for themselves

Plus, I’m inherently lazy. I put them on, find out how holey they are, then can’t be arsed to take them off, chuck them away and find another pair. I decide fuck it, I’ll wear them and throw them away when I get undressed. Except I forget, they get put in the wash and the whole cycle begins again.

My DD is 15. I recently chucked out a pair of age 8 pyjama shorts. She utterly refused to part with them. God knows how she still got in them. They were hand me downs from her big sister so were knocking on a bit

CorianderBee · 04/06/2021 20:43

I don't really get holes in my underwear... I throw it away when it's no longer soft, has lost its elastic or is... discoloured.

MargaretThursday · 04/06/2021 22:10

No. It depends on how much I like that particular pair, and where the hole is Grin

thriftyhen · 04/06/2021 22:17

Holey pants get turned into rags in this house. I presumed everyone did this with holey underwear. I would never put them in the bin.

pinkcattydude · 04/06/2021 22:53

If they have holes I make them worse and bin them. Get so angry when people put things with holes through the wash. I have enough washing to do.

optimistic40 · 04/06/2021 22:58

I used to keep manky things like that, but now I bin them and get new. Socks are annoying with toes poking through, and underwear looks horrible like that.

minniemoll · 04/06/2021 23:04

I'm amazed at how few people mend them! A quick zig zag on the machine and they're good for another couple of years...

JackieTheFart · 04/06/2021 23:04

I have raggedy old knickers because I feel like I can’t put worn ones in the bin. So then get put in the wash bag, are washed, and then make their way back to the drawer.

I do buy new ones and try and be more vigilant!

tiredanddangerous · 04/06/2021 23:07

I wear holey pants. Our household income is over 100k and most of my pants have holes Confused

Sunnysausage · 04/06/2021 23:10

I’m fairly good at sorting the drawer but the rag bin at our local waste centre has stopped accepting clothes so I now just have a bag of holey pants and other clothes with holes which the charity shop won’t want. What am I meant to do with them (really don’t want them to go landfill if possible)?

user1487194234 · 04/06/2021 23:14

I do like to have nice pants and socks
But each to their own

Titsywoo · 04/06/2021 23:14

Honestly I couldn't care too much about a few holes. My clothes aren't too great either but it isnt a priority for me.

Same here. I spend all my money on my house and garden.
