I have a theory that there are those of us who gets holes in our underwear and live with it and there are those of us who find holes and chuck them away and buy new immediately....

and I think this determines our personality and how we navigate life.

I am currently rotating through four sets of knickers all with massive holes where the elastic has come away from the fabric at the waistband. There will be a point where those pants are literally rags and I will rummage in the drawer and find replacements or buy new.

I have the money for new knickers. I have other knickers. And yet I keep washing these pants and putting them in the drawer and wearing them!!!

I'm imagining a catholic priest reading blessings over your holy pants, perhaps that's what makes them unchuckable Grin.

FastFood · 04/06/2021 11:58

I've changed, I was a keeper, now I just bin them straight away.

Especially socks, at some point I realised that I don't get up in the morning and go to work to live my life with a toe escaping from a dated sock.

HemanOrSheRa · 04/06/2021 11:59

@ButtercupSquash

It takes me back to school - lying on a raised area off grass. I thought people were laughing because they could see my knickers, but it was more than that... Anyway, what does it say about character? What is your theory?
Grin

I have holey pants because my male dog loves to chew the gussets Blush. Clean or worn and stolen from the laundry basket, he doesn't care.

I am the latter. Your attitude to holey pants is stressing me out just thinking about it….lol

Evvyjb · 04/06/2021 12:13

I'm with you! Almost everything I own has holes in. Especially pants...

Dohrehmee · 04/06/2021 12:24

I’ve had knickers from
Bhs which lasted me 20 years! Got tips on my nightdress but can’t bear to throw it out. !

BelleClapper · 04/06/2021 12:26

Oh my god I feel seen.

Half my pants have holes and I have no idea why I still wear them! What is that about?

HasaDigaEebowai · 04/06/2021 12:28

I have knickers I had at university in 1992

BingBangBong1 · 04/06/2021 12:31

Just don't do what I did

Took my underwear drawer out.

Made two piles-one going, one staying

Went to answer the door to a parcel. Got distracted by making a cup of coffee

Went back upstairs and put the wrong pile in the bin bag.

Did not realise until the day after when I could only find the underwear I wanted rid of. DP had put the rubbish out. Bye nice pants and bras

I think lockdown has made me senile.
Although, I did get to go buy lovely new stuff so not all bad

NotImpossible · 04/06/2021 12:33

I'm with you. It seems so wasteful to throw them when there's a hole near the waistband - it doesn't affect the function at all (and I'm way past caring what my undies look like). I have the same with a bedraggled old dressing gown - it's not pretty but it works and nobody sees it so I can't justify chucking it.

Willowkins · 04/06/2021 12:34

I've lost a bit of weight. I really need to throw all my big pants away before something embarrassing happens.

Foxhasbigsocks · 04/06/2021 12:34

I think this too op. Holey and proud. Some of mine are more than ten years old Grin

GoodbyeCovid5 · 04/06/2021 12:34

Joining the holey pants brigade... Quite a few of kind have holes in the waistband or the gusset Blush We don't have a lot of spare money so I always find something else needs bought first, pants are way down the priority list! My mum gave me some for my Christmas though as she knows I'm shit at buying these things for myself!

SirSamuelVimes · 04/06/2021 12:35

@IliveonCoffee

I need to have a sort out...similarly so do my clothes. I mean they aren't holey, but some tops are a bit rough on their hems, that tiny bit shrunk in the wash.

I think I avoid sorting it as I'd have to admit how few clothes I actually like...

Exactly this. And then the follow on realisation that I have no clothes I like because I am fat and horrible looking and no matter what clothes I buy I will always look like a pile of shit wearing them.

Easier just to stick to the holey pants really.

NotImpossible · 04/06/2021 12:35

I will replace holey socks though Confused I suppose holes in socks are annoying/impractical to wear so they get replaced as needed.

burritofan · 04/06/2021 12:35

Oh god, most of my knickers are just fanny frames. Waistband and little else. There’s always something more important to spend my time and money on. They do the job. They do not, unless that job is aerating my muff.

Will any theory fit everyone? I don't buy knickers that have elasticated bands in them. If mine do start to unravel I can sew them back together. I overhauled my knicker drawer about 10 years ago, I still have perfectly preserved knickers from that time.

PanamaPattie · 04/06/2021 12:38

I wear pants and socks with holes in. I have also bought new pants and socks. However, they will stay in my underwear drawer until the old ones are thoroughly worn out.

catmandont · 04/06/2021 12:41

I love to sew, and I'm a mender if holey pants.

A simple zig zag stitch re-attaches the elastic to the body of the pants.

After a pant draw sort out in lockdown I even replaced the gussets on some of my favourite (now discontinued) pants 🤣

If you don’t have elastic bands, how do your pants stay up?! Force of will? Sewn to your bra?
eddiemairswife · 04/06/2021 12:58

Replacing gussets!! At school, in sewing, we had to make a pair of knickers with a gusset so that we could practise a run-and-fell stitch. A skill I have never needed to use in all the decades since.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 04/06/2021 13:06

I am not terribly fastidious but I hate the feeling of wearing knickers with holes in them-makes me feel grubby.

So I am a chucker in this scenario Grin plus love new ones.

BelleBlueBell · 04/06/2021 13:09

Does anyone remember a long thread about this a little while back, something about how a lot of women can't treat themselves to little things or something like that.

iirc this is a recognised thing, I'm really trying now to remember the details, I actually checked the date of this thread as it was so familiar.

Ineedtosleeptoo · 04/06/2021 13:12

Well I don't know where I fit in here because I wear my knickers until they die in service usually while I'm at work and that's not awkward at all but I cannot abide holes in my socks at all and bin them straight away, and if bra's lose a hook or the underwire gets loose or padding shifts, straight in the bin.

I think I'm some sort of underwear maverick 🤣
