I have a theory that there are those of us who gets holes in our underwear and live with it and there are those of us who find holes and chuck them away and buy new immediately....

and I think this determines our personality and how we navigate life.

I am currently rotating through four sets of knickers all with massive holes where the elastic has come away from the fabric at the waistband. There will be a point where those pants are literally rags and I will rummage in the drawer and find replacements or buy new.

I have the money for new knickers. I have other knickers. And yet I keep washing these pants and putting them in the drawer and wearing them!!!

Bin them! When I buy new pants, the old ones get retired to the bin.

aiwblam · 04/06/2021 10:16

Everyone in my family has holes in their underwear. Nobody cares.

FourEyesGood · 04/06/2021 10:28

I’m with you, OP. I repair where I can, but am always reluctant to bin pants (maybe because they know too much? Grin).

I need to have a sort out...similarly so do my clothes. I mean they aren't holey, but some tops are a bit rough on their hems, that tiny bit shrunk in the wash.

I think I avoid sorting it as I'd have to admit how few clothes I actually like...

RogueV · 04/06/2021 10:36

Eeeeeek Chuck them please!

alloalloallo · 04/06/2021 10:38

I’m with you too.

I have several holy pants that just keep going round and round. I should chuck them, but never do

I’ve also got a hole in one sock today. It’s irritating as my toe keeps poking out.

BertieBotts · 04/06/2021 10:38

I too am a holey pants hanger oner.

What does this say about our personalities? :o

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 04/06/2021 11:06

Mine weren’t exactly holey, but after so long they were definitely very well worn, any white ones greyish off white, plus most of them were that little bit too tight, but being ex M&S they seemed to go on for bloody ever

However I recently went and treated myself - half a dozen of the 3 for 2 very nice ones - than having got them home I wondered why on earth I’d only got 6, and went back for half a dozen more.
My knicker drawer is now a pleasure to behold.

nahdenmardybum · 04/06/2021 11:09

I thought it was only men who hung on for dear life to holy pants!

Love the comment about not binning them as they "know too much" GrinGrinGrin

MMMarmite · 04/06/2021 11:10

I'm one too. I hate waste and I'm quite disorganised.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 04/06/2021 11:11

I am you OP.

Nobody would ever know either, as I present at work as little miss uber organised.

MMMarmite · 04/06/2021 11:11

Depends where the hole is though!

Bicnod · 04/06/2021 11:14

I have holey pants and holey socks. Replacing them just never makes it to the top of the to do list. I just don't really care enough. Having said that, I do love it when I eventually get round to buying new ones.

iduno · 04/06/2021 11:17

I rarely get holes in mine. Same with DH and the kids. They'd go straight in the bin if they did.

I also clear out ones I'm not wearing as much and bin them too. U know u buy new ones they aren't as comfy or don't sit quite how I'd like them etc.

Notsoaccidentproneanymore · 04/06/2021 11:23

I noticed my vests were so thin they were threadbare. Big patches where the cotton had worn through and it was just thin Lycra. And they’re only about 5 years old.

I’ve put them for fabric recycling and ordered some new one. But it took 4 days of indecision......

I also have the same issue with pants.

MikeWozniaksGloriousTache · 04/06/2021 11:30

Yup, half my pants have holes around the elastics. I can't throw them out as I can't really afford to replace and I struggle finding comfy pants in my size that are affordable. I probably wouldn't chuck them even if I could afford to replace them because they're still perfectly useable and there's no point in binning something that is still working imo. That's my thoughts on everything though, which is why our house is very dated lol.

LeonardLikesThisPost · 04/06/2021 11:31

I have never had holes in my pants ever. And some of my pants are at least 10 years old. Cheapos too, not fancy pants you'd expect to last. Wonder why 🤔

I would immediately chuck any that did get holes though, because I HATE holes in clothes to the point of it being almost a phobia. If I ever notice a hole in something I'm wearing I feel gross until I can get it off.

whattodo2019 · 04/06/2021 11:35

Bin and buy in this house ...

HasaDigaEebowai · 04/06/2021 11:37

I’m a holey knickers girl. It’s such a waste to throw things away if they still function.

Immaculate on the outside though

canyon2000 · 04/06/2021 11:39

I bin pants or socks if they get holes in and buy new ones. I will mend clothes if they get holes but not undies. Mind you it doesn't happen very often as my undies seem to last forever!!

ButtercupSquash · 04/06/2021 11:39

It takes me back to school - lying on a raised area off grass. I thought people were laughing because they could see my knickers, but it was more than that...
Anyway, what does it say about character? What is your theory?

NoBetterthanSheShouldBe · 04/06/2021 11:42

I tend to buy too many pants and socks - holidays, accidents, need a matching set on hand, etc.

I wear the oldest ones if I’m not expecting my underwear to be visible, wash them carefully and they last years. I am so relieved when a hole appears and I can start wearing nicer ones at last!

lljkk · 04/06/2021 11:43

I chuck pants with holes in them. What is this supposed to mean about anything else in my life? Not following.

I (we) wear things like jeans or old shirts until they are literally falling apart, mind.

SquirrelFan · 04/06/2021 11:50

The problem is finding replacement comfy ones--they always discontinue the ones I like, and you shell out for a pack of three or five and then you're stuck with things you can't return! So I continue on with the ratty ones, mending the most egregious holes...

oystercatcher44 · 04/06/2021 11:54

My granny always told me to wear pristine underwear in case I was taken to hospital unexpectedly. The staff will judge you Grin
