Just curious.

£200. £100 doesn't really go very far. Also, bits to.open.

1starwars2 · 01/06/2021 20:24

£200, if I knew he was saving for something useful: computer, bike, car, trip away etc.
Less if it was going to be frittered away on in app purchases and fizzy drinks.
DS1 is saving for a ridiculously expensive computer....

Waxonwaxoff0 · 01/06/2021 20:25

Depends what you can afford. DS about to turn 8 is getting about £250 of presents plus cake costing over £200 and a party costing £130ish.

For a 15 year old, I would probably give £300.

MadMadMadamMim · 01/06/2021 20:26

£50. I'm Shock at people saying they'd give £200 +.

I can't imagine having that much money to give a teenager. No wonder some of them have mega expectations. That's about a fortnight's food shop to a lot of families.

Comefromaway · 01/06/2021 20:28

I gave Ds £150 for his 16th. He’d been saving for a new keyboard for the last 8 months and his birthday money helped him to finally buy it.

Hardertobreathe · 01/06/2021 20:29

He got £100 and some gifts to open as well. Probably around £40 worth.

Worriesome · 01/06/2021 20:32

I agree with you @MadMadMadamMim

InFiveMins · 01/06/2021 20:33

£200

olivo · 01/06/2021 20:36

£50 here plus some small gifts ( make up ,toiletries etc) to open. It may be more if we don't go away before it as we would spend around £100 on clothes on a visit to the UK!

shewalkslikerihanna · 01/06/2021 20:37

£100

olivo · 01/06/2021 20:37

I am Shock at £200 for a cake! And feeling grateful that mine ask for an m and s cake!

CheshireCats · 01/06/2021 20:38

£150 for teen birthdays here.

Feellikeimsinking · 01/06/2021 20:38

FourTurnings · 01/06/2021 20:42

£150 with some little bits to open on the day.

77kidsandcounting · 01/06/2021 20:47

£300

LittleCatDog · 01/06/2021 20:48

£100

TheChosenTwo · 01/06/2021 20:53

Depends. If they asked for money towards something then probably up to but not above £500.
If they wanted it just for general spending, maybe a shopping trip with friends or something like that then £200 and a few presents to open.
Basically, just what we’d usually spend on a regular (as in not a milestone) birthday.
I have always made my own cakes though!!

PegasusReturns · 01/06/2021 20:53

Probably £200-£300, but DS is pretty good with cash.

I’d usually spend a bit more on his gift depending on what he wanted.

Boomisshiss · 01/06/2021 20:54

£250

timberwolf79 · 01/06/2021 20:54

I would say £100 at least

kowari · 01/06/2021 20:56

£50, but then he also had money from extended family

Cashewsauce · 01/06/2021 20:59

£100-£150

Itsokthanks · 01/06/2021 21:01

£50 but I know this is less than most would give.

Csx99 · 01/06/2021 21:01

£200-300

ODFOx · 01/06/2021 21:02

My DD gets an allowance to buy non-essential clothes, treats, presents, socialising, so a gift would be a multiple of that, depending on if she'd asked for money towards a particular thing or if it's just going into the pot.
For her 16th she got £200 cash and a few bits to open. From week to week I spend nothing. She gets allowance and has to budget, so a little mad-money seemed reasonable.
