I am a support worker in mental health (outs self entirely)

Someone said a few weeks ago 'you are a glorified bum-wiper'

I would like to give them a thump and then take them to an adult acute inpatient hospital and support people who are acutely mentally unwell, suicidal, violent, sexually disinhibited, manic and psychotic. I will of course, help with personal care where needed.

She was not a friend, fwiw and never will be Grin

Before I got cancer the second time, I was a Tactical Advisor for a government department. I made decisions that still affect people's lives. I needed to be a LLM just to be considered for the job...my mother still lies to people that I'm doing that job because telling them I'm permanently disabled is too embarrassing....

Iamthewombat · 01/06/2021 20:49

@PixieDust28

SALIVA **

Thank you auto correct Blush.

I’m glad you cleared that up. I was thinking, eh? Is she a gardener? Why is she hoovering up salvia? Why did she need to know about anatomy?
TheNestedIf · 01/06/2021 20:49

"Can I quickly show you the website that I look after?"
"NO! I'm NOT interested!"

OK then, Mum.

Shock Bloody hell.

Just admin, just a secretary etc and most of those are from the doctors and nurses I have worked with. I cant tell you the times I stop what I'm doing to help them use a computer or deal with a patient

alwayswrighty · 01/06/2021 20:58

@ab21 🤣🤣 I'm a financial adviser. I get the same shit, along with can you get rid of the commission on this case because x person will do it without. Err no, its hoe I get paid and I've been advising 21 years if you want to go elsewhere then do it. I've got plenty of clients appreciative that my experience costs them in some way.

dozydoo · 01/06/2021 21:01

I worked in a particular shop, my daily insults (almost always by women) were that I was a whore, a slag, a cheap prostitute, they wouldn't bring their dh/dp in because I would obviously try to steal them, i got asked a lot by the mostly women customers if I showed the men how to use the items, & if I put on shows for them? I was told I was what was wrong with the world, I was corrupting it, I was corrupting children (because there were models in underwear in our window displays-not dissimilar to the ones in m&s windows, but m&s is a 'family' shop, whereas we were seen as 'dirty!'

A lady came in to tell me she would pray for my dirty disgusting soul, I think that was the worst insult as I'm an atheist 🤣🤣

There was a lady who told me she hoped I got raped.

We also got eggs & stink bombs etc thrown through the door.

I was 18-20 while I worked there, people can be fucking vile! ' Women' in particular seemed to have a massive problem with the shop being located in the high street.

I'm sorry, but I could not change where the shop was located, nor what we were told to display in our windows, which I might add was all tasteful.

Beetle76 · 01/06/2021 21:04

That it must be nice for me to give up work “to stay at home and do nothing” after quitting my respectable, but dead end, job.

At the time I was working 3 part time jobs to cover my living expenses while doing a 4-year career change course!

QuestionableMouse · 01/06/2021 21:05

Women once walked past me in the car park at work, looked me up and down and said to her kids "this is the sort of job you end up in if you don't work hard at school"

I'd just been accepted onto my MA after graduating with First class honours. Felt like smacking her.

Raffleyourdoughnut · 01/06/2021 21:05

My brother and sister don't think I have a real proper job as I only work for a local authority and not 'corporate' like them.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 01/06/2021 21:06

Also as part of my job in the NHS I regularly get told I could lose a few pounds/stone, how old am I, are you allowed to work at your age (I'm 60), how come they allow someone like you (tattoos and blue hair) to work here you look like a docker - I'm female actually.
Endless nit picking personal remarks that are none of their business and today the absolute bloody limit - I'd just had an emergency in and sent them to hospital as they had sepsis, had to do letters, emails, phone calls because it's all a real palaver.
My next patient that I was 7 minutes late for started shouting in the car park at me and pointing at his watch repeatedly because I was 7 minutes late.
I never respond because stress makes my blood pressure up, he said to my colleague I'm not seeing this circus freak (tattoos) get me somebody normal. I'm a highly trained professional, the tattoos I got when I was younger do not change that.
Typical day in paradise.

Eaumyword · 01/06/2021 21:09

I'm a School Sec. Most of my parents are lovely. I did cry when an abusive man shouted at me, telling me I'm 'just a stupid receptionist, I'm thick and crap at my job.' This, because I was expected to explain to him why his daughter had performed poorly in her SATS.
I'd never been so tempted to crisply tell him that I'm a qualified lawyer, not a teacher, but he was so awful I just crumpled. Sad
Oddly, my DH used to hurt my feelings about my job the most, referring to me as 'just' an office clerk. It's just that the role is so much more-just for really low pay. Soon put him right by pointing out I'd stepped back from my city career to raise our child and enable him to work away from home.

Mjstjs · 01/06/2021 21:11

@Sidge

I’m a prescribing nurse practitioner.

I’ve been told I must be a nurse because I’m not clever enough to be a doctor (probably true but I’m not daft) and all I do is what the doctor tells me to. Errr not quite. I can assess, treat and prescribe within my remit without any input from a doctor. Having said that we work rather well as a team and complement each other’s skills!

The nurse practitioners I work with are amazing. I like to think it is a partnership. There are things that they are so much better at than me, same for our practice nurses and HCSW, and like you said I think our skills complement one another.

'The Grim Reaper' .... HR Manager

ozymandiusking · 01/06/2021 21:18

According to my Mother in law, "I had a nice little job." It wasn't just a little job.

Kione · 01/06/2021 21:18

I am a Social Worker, so imagine...

Baby snatcher, family breaker, I get paid to just drive around...

I work with adults, I was told by someone they could not put up with the smell Sad

Ilovemycat13 · 01/06/2021 21:19

I’m a student midwife. Lots of people have said ‘what’s so hard about telling people just to push?’ It’s so ignorant to assume midwives are not highly qualified specialised medical professionals.

Anatomical · 01/06/2021 21:20

My DF asked if my job was an actual real job and if I got paid or did it for free. I'm a senior manager at a leisure facility with over 5000 members ffs.

That we're greedy (just now), money grabbing bastards who should work for free because we love animals (yeah that pays the bills Confused)

Pretty standard

User1110 · 01/06/2021 21:22

Work in fashion. Apparently all I do is look at ‘pretty dresses’. Confused

GiveTheGirlAGun · 01/06/2021 21:24

I don't get why people are so very rude about other people's jobs. The "this is what happens if you don't work hard at school" to insult younger supermarket workers is so cliche that I would hardly believe it unless it hadn't happened to me as a student.

I worked at a debt collections call centre for a few months. I was called a jobsworth, a nazi, gestapo and accused of making people commit suicide or was told I was the lowest form scum. I was simply asking people to pay what they owed. I didn't make the debts up. It's heartbreaking when there are very real problems at to why a bill can't be paid, but all people need to do is explain they can't afford anymore than 50p a month and send in a form detailing an income/expenditure. No one ever checks them. Note- doesn't work with mortgages, but quite well for utilities.
The best one at as a collector was when the person next to me ended up speaking to Jarvis Cocker. It wasn't his debt though and he was very polite.

Eileen101 · 01/06/2021 21:30

Ambulance chaser
How can you possibly defend criminals?
Usually some kind of comment about raking it in.
Bitter comments from men who dislike the fact that they've had to share assets in their divorce.

Hmm None are my area actually. I generally have to explain what I actually do in laymen's terms.

ZiggZagg · 01/06/2021 21:31

@SoLongSister ahh me too but only the good looking ones Wink

Mmmcheese89 · 01/06/2021 21:33
