Lack of energy when the sun is out?

Icepops · 31/05/2021 14:46

I know a lot of people say the sun and warmer weather gives them energy, but I seem to feel the opposite and feel like I have most energy and motivation when it’s grey and raining.

Don’t want to do anything when it’s warm like this (and it’s only mid twenties today, I know it will much hotter in July/August).

Friends have asked to meet up and enjoy the sunshine but I can’t think of anything worse than spending my afternoon outside in the sun. If it was tipping it down now that would be a different story!

Am I the only one? Confused

I'm the same, hot sun and brightness makes me feel really sleepy

Shitfuckcommaetc · 31/05/2021 14:48

Nope, I'm very fair skinned and hide away indoors on sunny days.

I get lots of "just wear suncream" "stay in the shade"
No thanks!

MarmaladeBumpkin · 31/05/2021 14:52

Yep me too. I have a health condition with some sensory processing issues, and bright sunshine and warm temperatures completely drain my batteries and make me feel awful. I feel really energised when it's totally overcast and between about 17 and 20 degrees. Perfect!

PickAChew · 31/05/2021 14:54

Sunny weather gives me more energy but I can't abide being too hot, which I generally am at 25C.

HeronLanyon · 31/05/2021 15:01

I am exactly the same op. I think it’s a kind of reverse SAD. Unless I am on a beach and able to swim then I really don’t like days like these. I have masses to do today - if it were grey and raining I’d have no problem ! Far far prefer autumn/winter (unless I am somewhere hot, on holiday and able to dive into to some lovely Sandy Rocky cove somewhere.

Lowlight282 · 31/05/2021 15:08

Same here, I genuinely hate hot weather, it makes me feel head achy and lethargic and I hate the feeling of sunshine on my skin. I've had skin cancer previously despite never being a sun worshiper. I just really don't like it.

I love rain, love a cold windy day, getting wrapped up warm, muddy walking boots, heating on, snuggled under a blanket by the fire, dark at 4, steaming hot tea and a lovely bath. Love it! Beaches are for winter, wild weather with the sea crashing.

Whenigrowupiwanttobea · 31/05/2021 15:09

Yep! I have a condition called 'Behcet's Disease" and the hot weather and bright sunshine play havoc with my body. Tired, fatigued, headache and painful joints. I am not a summer person at all. Give me a nice cold, crisp winter day anytime!

SpeakingFranglais · 31/05/2021 15:15

Me too, I have said this to close friends for decades and one still refuses to accept it, she still excitedly tells
Me how hot and wonderful it is where she lives (Overseas) and expects me to be ooo, ahhh, I’m so jealous. I’ve known her 50 years. We’ve been on holiday together to hot countries countless times and she’s seen me hung out the shade and dodge the sun for every single one.

Bring on the rain. I’m currently flaked out in my cool living room on the sofa!

MrsMcTats · 31/05/2021 15:18

I'm the same! Fine if I'm by a pool, but can't get any house jobs done, hate cooking in the heat and the house seems dusty and covered in 'bits' because the DC bring in detritus from the garden. Definitely worse since having DC.

Kolo · 31/05/2021 15:18

Me! I've not got an illness, just lose the will to move when it's hot. I enjoy being on holiday where I can lie down with a book and occasionally cool off in a pool, but that's about it. Once my husband convinced me to go kayaking in the sun. I would have gladly been swept off into the middle of the ocean and died of thirst rather than make the effort to paddle back to shore. But he insisted.

Icepops · 31/05/2021 15:31

So glad it’s not just me. We have a clothing collection tomorrow so are going through all the wardrobes. I am lacking motivation somewhat

I'm exactly the same OP. I have to do things in little bursts!

uncomfortablydumb53 · 31/05/2021 17:03

I feel exactly the same, I find it very draining and it saps my appetite too
I have CP and extreme temperatures increase my muscle tone so need more rest too

Soubriquet · 31/05/2021 17:09

I have very little energy during hot weather too. If I have to be put, I sit in the shade

People always comment on how pale I am, but tbh I prefer it that way anyway

Icepops · 01/06/2021 07:39

Hopefully we get some rain soon! Grin

HeronLanyon · 01/06/2021 08:23

With me it’s less the heat (I don’t mind heat at all) and more the light which I find difficult !! Pulls shades down. Grin

EversoDelighted · 01/06/2021 08:30

Yes, me too, I like the light and long evenings but hate being in direct sunlight for more than a few minutes especially if there's no breeze. I spent most of yesterday outdoors but in the shade, same planned for today.

Grapesoda7 · 01/06/2021 08:31

Me too, I'm really pale, the heat just drains my energy, I can't think straight when I'm too hot. I also get polymorphic light eruptions and in one heatwave, I kept coming out in massive hives all over my body because of the sun.

I'm not so bad when there's aircon and a pool, but in the UK, houses are all about keeping the heat in.

Early spring and autumn are good for me.

My husband is the opposite, it can't get hot enough for him and he's full of energy on a hot sunny day.

Coffeeislife04 · 01/06/2021 08:34

Anything over 20 and I literally don't wanna move

Afonavon · 01/06/2021 08:45

I hate the heat. The sweaty skin, the migraines, the potential skin cancer, the clammy skin covered in sun block. There are no benefits to it! My fat body battling with cool floaty clothes which make me look even bigger, or flattering black clothes which make me sweatier. I fucking.hate.the. heat!

Galadali · 01/06/2021 08:59

Ah, my people! For 50 years I've felt guilty, that I "should" be outside on sunny days, but it's really not my natural element. My oh bloody loves the sun too and thinks I'm weird.

Grapesoda7 · 01/06/2021 16:05

I also really like wearing socks, cardigans, hoodies anything cozy

feckwit · 01/06/2021 16:07

Me too!

MrsDThomas · 01/06/2021 18:15

I get tired in the sun. Much prefer wind and rain and love nothing more than a brisk run or walk in it. In this heat i hate it.

the80sweregreat · 01/06/2021 18:39

I hate hot weather and the sun makes me feel a bit uneasy, tired and fed up.
I do have the opposite to most people I know who love it!
