Working from home means I'm working!!!

I'm sure I'm not the only one but I work from home still and will probably always now following Covid but why does no one seem to appreciate that Mon-Fri 9-5 I'm working. Not you can pop over now we can go in each other's home. Not I can run my child to here there and everywhere. Not I can drop everything and help you do something you're stuck on

If I was in the office you'd not call me or come in but because I'm home family do not actually understand I'm working. Trying to earn money that as a family we need.

I now end up working late or weekends just so I can catch up and not be the team member falling behind.

It's driving me mad!!!

My employer is all for work / life balance, but WFH its far too easy for this to become work / chores balance. The staff with no kids and whose partners work out of the home are loving the situation and don't want to return to the office. Those of us with families are already sneaking back in despite officially the office being closed!

Lock the study door, and ignore them. Set up an automatic reply on your phone during working hours, so people have to text in emergencies only. If it not an emergency it's easier to ignore than a call. Like the 'I am driving' message.

Yes - my kids are good at leaving me alone, but when my parents visit they constantly pop their heads round the door to ask me things like 'Will we need to pack teabags to take to the rental house with us?' Because as someone who doesn't even drink tea I obviously would know that... :-)

I have to resort to gesticulating at my screen, and apologetically repeating "I've really got a very stressful deadline to hit here."
