It’s all going down on our street today!

#1 is having a sofa delivered.

#2 have a JCB knocking down a side conservatory.

#5 are moving out, so there are big trucks everywhere.

#10 are having a skip delivered.

And an Argos lorry has just poled up for recently moved in #13.

#6 normally has a supermarket delivery on a Friday about 11am, so that could add to the chaos.

Luckily it is a friendly street, so much standing and pointing to work out the logistics of where everyone can move their vehicles to (ours is safe on the drive).

Normally it’s just the Tesco delivery for next door and a fat ginger cat that tries to climb the telephone pole on a Friday Grin

The school mums have broken out their summer wardrobes. Some of them look lovely....

VonWeasel · 28/05/2021 14:36

I just saw a bride, leave for her wedding. She looked lovely and it made me smile. No other excitement except foxes digging up things I have planted which I then re-plant and they then re-dig . Rinse and repeat (ongoing saga since January!!!).

SunflowersAndLavender · 28/05/2021 14:40

There was a stamp duty holiday until recently, wasn't there? So maybe they just needed a place to move to quickly, and then did a proper search once they got moved.

Yes, good point. No disability as far as I can tell, at least they don't have a blue badge and the car is far to small for a wheelchair.

They eat a lot of takeaways, delivered. This may or may not be relevant. Grin

@SunflowersAndLavender

Not sure if it’s any help, but containers from overseas moves are often transferred into regular moving lorries after clearing customs, especially if the container holds goods for multiple recipients. So they could have moved from anywhere.

SunflowersAndLavender · 28/05/2021 14:49

pippy It doesn't help at all - it just widens the possibilities of places they could have come from before staying indoors for six months straight then moving again, but thank you. Grin

SunflowersAndLavender · 28/05/2021 14:51

Although it does make partial sense because the removal truck was seriously massive and it's only a small house. I remember thinking 'Jeez, I hope that's not full of their stuff because it's NEVER going to all fit in that house. And when I sneaked a peak at their house now it's on Righmove, it's very sparsely furnished - it looks like a rental place with few personal belongings. So it may well have been a shared load on the truck.

maddiemookins16mum · 28/05/2021 14:54

Two cats have been sat discussing arse licking, the one from number 21 has told Beano (yep that’s his name) from 29 to make more of an effort.

PS - Beano has a brother called Dandy.

allfurcoatnoknickers · 28/05/2021 15:03

I live in NYC and we have an app called Citizen that alerts us to all the crazy goings on around the neighbourhood.

Yesterday I got "Woman brandishing tennis racket chasing man" this morning it's "Report of trash fire threatening building", "Robbery at Knifepoint" and "People fighting at Pier 57". Grin

iwishiwasonhol · 28/05/2021 15:05

next doors having scaffolding put up for a new roof ,someone moving in across the road ,kids across the road are on a inset day so are coming and going every 5 min banging on the door/shouting through the letter box to be let in and ive taken about 6 parcels in for various neighbours

IsThePopeCatholic · 28/05/2021 15:19

@SunflowersAndLavender

Oooh I'm glad you started this thread because I've been wanting to discuss my new neighbours for months. I've been a proper curtain twitcher and I NEED to know what's going on. What do you all make of this?

Last November a family moved in, bang slap opposite my house. I can see into their windows quite clearly as it's a small road. Mum and Dad late 50's or 60ish, and a grown up son. I think they are English but have maybe come back from living in France or Spain. They used international movers but obviously came overland, as they didn't have a shipping container on a truck, just a normal removal truck.

They had a brand new car delivered the day after they moved in, which also goes with my theory about returning from abroad as there was no other car.

I've seen the son come and go a few times, and I've seen the woman put the bins out twice. That's all. Barely a glimpse of her in 6 months. But the man I have NEVER seen leave the house. Not once. He sits in his armchair in the window watching TV and scrolling through his ipad all day and all night long and never seems to go to bed. Every time I get up for a wee in the night, they are always still up. They don't see to go to bed before 2 or 3 am.

The other day a SOLD sign appeared outside their house but the house never even appeared for sale on Rightmove. I know this because I look all the time to see what's for sale in my area. According to rightmove it completed last November for only 6k less than they are now selling it for.

What the hell is that all about? Why waste all that stamp duty and and pay fees twice in six months on a house you've barely settled into? And where are they going now? Are they under witness protection? Do you think he will ever leave the house?

Maybe they’re moving because they’re fed up with some woman who keeps spying on them day and night? Grin

I’ve washed my son’s bedding as he has gone abroad (PCR test negative). Hung it all out in the garden. Now it’s raining.

Marmite27 · 28/05/2021 16:51

@BumbleFlump

OP, in the kindest possible way, you really need to get out more.
I get out plenty thanks Grin

It’s normally just the Tesco van and the cat and the telephone pole in a Friday, so I was open mouthed in shock at the comings and going’s this morning.

I’ve been to a soft play with my youngest, been for a sit down on the neighbours new sofa (it’s very swish) and had a chat with the guy valeting their car.

It’s all quiet on the western front at the moment, however to the east there’s a giant bouncy castle and pop music playing. It looks like someone is celebrating half term with style.

No sign of the new neighbours yet. Old neighbours are in and the vans are unpacked (they text to say they were settled).

Well, isn't that just the harshest little put down? You must be cut to your core OP.

Anyway, who needs to go out when there's brothels and bin lorries and brides and building work going on Grin

Feilin · 28/05/2021 17:37

Im loving this thread . I hope it continues on though sadly there will be no curtain twitching from me tomorrow as Ill be working but no doubt 2 doors down will be having a good look 🤣 again Gillian looking at you but its probably a miss m who will be watching all the to and fro tomorrow.

Ohgonthenillhaveabrew · 28/05/2021 17:53

This is so outing if any of my neighbours are here... if you are... HELLO! The almost opposite neighbour Got a knock around 10 thought it was track and trace AGAIN as they have been a few times in the last few week and were unsuccessful in getting a response. A short time late the occupier was taken away with several large bags of luggage. (would track and trace take you away??) the suspense is killing me. Normally the highlight in our cul de sac is car cleaning wars on a Saturday morning oh not to mention the unofficial competition of who can put their bin out first for collection...

megletthesecond · 28/05/2021 17:56

Mr neighbours have continued their half arsed DIY project by painting their gate the same grim colour as their door. Maybe in a year they'll paint something else.

NeedCoffeeToSurvive · 28/05/2021 18:28

Our street is pretty boring.
Today I've made the whole street smell like vinegar.

Next door had a couple of visitors who very closely resembled Daisy and Onslow from Keeping Up Appearances.

Very uneventful area.

TheMostHappy · 28/05/2021 18:44

A poor lady opposite has had her cat knocked over and killed. And our back neighbours have had their massive trees trimmed and thinned out on their side but not on our side. I could have cried because they overhang by 6-8ft but are 20-25ft tall and can't reach to trim them back without paying a tree surgeon to maintain someone else's tree for them. 😒

StCharlotte · 28/05/2021 18:44

We have a mass vaccine centre on our street. Lots of greetings to/from the volunteers. All very cheery. Also a primary school but I don't see much of that as I'm out all day.

Nocaloriesinchocolate · 28/05/2021 18:59

OP What I really need to know is why the cat only climbs a telegraph pole on a Friday? Does he have a regular phone call to his mate in Australia booked and he’s trying to tap into the phone line to avoid paying.

Bin lorry this morning, dog walkers and workmen come to fit a new side gate at ours. Ducks on lake opposite apparently rerunning WW2.

FricasseeTurnips · 28/05/2021 19:05

Over the road are having building work and at least twice both their building vans were ticketed for parking without a permit. I wanted to know whether they got done again today but I was out and DH forgot to check. £50 a day in fines vs buying a ticket from a shop at the end of the road for £1 - I don't get it.

MaMelon · 28/05/2021 19:10

How?!

JustMarriedAndLovingIt · 28/05/2021 19:12

Not sure about the neighbours but it’s a hive of activity in our house as we have 12 viewings booked in tomorrow 😬 We’ve put in an offer on a house and the market is going crazy round here at the minute so I’m hoping we’ll get some offers ourself!!

NeedCoffeeToSurvive · 28/05/2021 21:11

@MaMelon large quantities of weedkiller used on my front garden.

GeorgeAnneAndTimmytoo · 30/05/2021 06:08

@FlorrieLindley

A pheasant and his mate are pottering about in the front garden. Across the path on the beach a heron is sitting on a rock looking for dinner opportunities. In the distance I can see the postman's wee red van breasting the hill. Apart from the tweeting of some oystercatchers, silence.
Sounds blissful … I am picturing you in a grey stone imposing Scottish house Smile
