OH NO nearly finished Death in Paradise, what should my next comfort trash be?

I’ve “enjoyed” Death in Paradise as a bit of a relaxing watch that my family have no interest in watching with me, before that I watched Shakespeare and Hathaway which had a similar comic mystery vibe. What should I cue up next?

Having enjoyed both those, DH and I watched the Mallorca Files, another pair of police/detectives in sunny places.

YouLookSoCool · 23/05/2021 18:59

I have never watched it but McDonald and Dodds looks similar, or Rosemary and Thyme if it's still on tv anywhere!

Yes I think the sunshine is the key! Thanks for the tip, I’ll give it a try.

Doesn’t have to be mystery based. The Durrells had a similar vibe, or even sitcoms (enjoyed Motherland and Parks and rec - a lot of sitcoms have crappy female characters which means I can’t take to them)

The Mallorca Files is maybe the most similar vibe. Only one and a bit series as yet though.

MouseTheDog · 23/05/2021 19:05

Strongly recommend Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries

Haha Errol you're quite right, knowing there are umpteen series does make it quite relaxing, I'm not exactly on the edge of my seat...

This was me a few weeks ago so found Jonathan Creek on iplayer lots of episodes to watch and I really enjoyed it.

TopTabby · 23/05/2021 19:23

I've just started watching Hustle from the first episode, there's at least 6 series! I did see a few back when it was on but really enjoying it, you don't have to concentrate too much & there's always a twist.

Gingernaut · 23/05/2021 19:28

If you've got access to Now or Sky, try Instinct.

Gruesome and impossibly plotted murders, New York setting, improbable partnership and Naveen Andrews as the female detective's love interest.

Thehouseofmarvels · 23/05/2021 19:28

My partner's friend played a guy called Emmet in one episode of Death in paradise.. lucky thing got flown somewhere tropical in the middle of the pandemic!

TheThermalStair · 24/05/2021 12:24

My friend's sister was in one episode - she was the murderer! Can't look at her the same way now...

I have found my people. I love watching death in paradise. Its so comforting and a piece of sunshine in the depths of winter. After I watched all 11 series I started rewatching Miss Marple and also the Hercule Poirot mysteries again, I like a murder mystery that is not too suspenseful. Don't get me wrong a gripping series is wonderful but sometimes you want the entertainment equivalent of a warm relaxing bath.

Fluffandbubbles · 24/05/2021 12:37

Brokenwood is great too, it’s in NZ so not wall to wall sunshine, but similar easy watching with great characters that you get to know as they pop up in episode after episode.

Floralnomad · 24/05/2021 12:42

Midsommer Murders , be selective some of them are absolutely hysterical - The creeper , Picture of Innocence , The Great and the Good - I could go on .

LiveatCityHall · 24/05/2021 12:46

I've just started watching Greys Anatomy. I didn't want to watch it when it was first aired as I wasn't sure I was into hospital dramas but I have to say it is SO MUCH MORE than that! You get invested in all the characters and their lives and what happens to them all. They just happen to be working in a hospital. It's also still going and is on its 17th series! Each ep is about 40 minutes long, so you can cram in about 3 or 4 before bed Smile

Oh my god how could I forget these! I've only watched one or two and they seemed very similar!

Seconded!

Oo placemarking - DIP and MM are my guilty pleasures Blush It's hard to find but I've enjoyed the Agatha Raisin series with Ashley Jensen and Matthew Horne if you can track it down. It's very light and fun and set in an idyllic country village, the locations are gorgeous.

startrek90 · 24/05/2021 13:36

Agatha raisin is a series now?!?! I love the books! Shall try and find this now. Thanks OP for a great thread

EverNapping · 24/05/2021 13:41

A vote for Miss Fisher here. Also Jonathan Creek. Vera isn't too bad.

I tend to just watch D in P over and over otherwise 🤣.
