OH NO nearly finished Death in Paradise, what should my next comfort trash be?

I’ve “enjoyed” Death in Paradise as a bit of a relaxing watch that my family have no interest in watching with me, before that I watched Shakespeare and Hathaway which had a similar comic mystery vibe. What should I cue up next?

Yes! Virgin River. None of the ones I’ve recommended are great, but easy watching

Definately · 28/05/2021 01:22

Call the Midwife is great if you want many, many episodes of almost the exact same thing happening per episode Grin

Definately · 28/05/2021 01:24

Oh and Sherlock if you haven't seen it, and Fleabag obviously now that Andrew Scott has popped into my head. Although I'm sure you've seen both because who hasn't.

TheThermalStair · 01/06/2021 21:06

@enjoyingscience

Lucifer on Netflix is perfect low stakes silliness. It’s about the devil solving crimes, and there’s enough of it (3 series on prime, 2 on Netflix) to do a proper binge on if you like.
Oh my gosh I once watched some of this by accident and it was truly addictive ridiculousness. WHY is lucifer SO CAMP?!!!

enjoyingscience · 01/06/2021 21:26

Ha! Glad you like it. He is so camp isn’t he. It’s such a brilliant guilty pleasure Grin

emsmum79 · 01/06/2021 22:46

It's definitely not trash, but I found Schitt's Creek so comforting and wonderful.

Seadragonusgiganticusmaximus · 01/06/2021 23:05

Have you done Vexed?

Calmingvibrations · 01/06/2021 23:38

I loved Brokenwood. Really want next series to appear (if there is one...?!)

FoxgloveSummers · 14/06/2021 20:03

These suggestions are so great (OP here!) thank you so much. Just wondering if there are any more on iPlayer, Prime or Netflix (or other free things) as I really can’t afford Now TV or Acorn etc.

I’m TRYING to love the Mallorca Files but I’m just not there yet...

SparkyBlue · 14/06/2021 20:18

I absolutely adore Death in Paradise but I just couldn't get into the Mallorca files. I wanted to like it so much. I've started watching The Royal and also classic Casualty, Holby City and dr Finlay. The Drama channel is my new best friend

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 14/06/2021 20:32

I’d forgotten about the royal. I think I binged that the year before last when I was ill.

I tend to jump between different subscription services Netflix/Prime etc. BritBox is great for comfort trash although a bit of a waste of money for everything else.

CheerfulBunny · 14/06/2021 20:48

Last year I positively devoured Broadchurch. I realise I am a good few years behind everyone else in this respect Grin but I thought it was brilliant. Olivia Coleman really is some actress.
Bit heavier than much of the stuff on this thread but the mention of Britbox reminded me.

FuckyouCovid21 · 14/06/2021 20:57

Just finished and thoroughly enjoyed Professor T on Britbox, only 6 episodes so far but pretty lighthearted, some humour. Ben Miller plays the title role very well

I only found Broadchurch recently too, binge watched 3 series in a weekend. Loved it
mogtheexcellent · 14/06/2021 21:03

I love Miss Fishers Murder mysteries but they have come off Netflix. Worth keeping an eye out on Drama for them. Currently watching The Coroner on Drama which is good. Shame it was cancelled.

Bythehairywartsonmywitchychin · 14/06/2021 21:06

Not crime, but how about Doc Martin ITV?

LoveFall · 14/06/2021 21:08

I loved watching Below Deck and worked my way through most of the seasons last year while shielding and having surgery.

Very trashy really but beautiful people, yachts and scenery. Really got my mind off the worrying stuff for a bit.

CheerfulBunny · 14/06/2021 21:08

@FuckyouCovid21 Three series in a weekend? Blimey, that is hardcore. My hat is doffed to you.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 14/06/2021 21:26

I’ve seen Miss Fishers Mysteries to stream somewherevthat isn’t Netflix I think.

Acunningruse · 14/06/2021 21:28

The Coroner with Claire Goose has a similar 'Sunday evening telly' vibe to Dearh in Paradise. It's being repeated on Drama at present I think.

I watched the original Belgian series of 'Professor T' with subtitles on 'Walter Presents'. I thought it was very unusual. It was humourous but also quite serious in many ways. No idea if this Britbox 'rip off' strikes the same tone or not. There are several series of the Belgian one.
